A case of bronchial Dieulafoy disease and literature review.

OBJECTIVE: Bronchial Dieulafoy's disease (BDD) is a rare disease that causes massive hemoptysis. This paper reports a case of BDD treated surgically. At the same time, we summarize the data of BDD patients reported in domestic and foreign literature to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of this disease. METHODS: A case of BDD with hemoptysis during bronchoscopy was reported. In addition, we searched for "bronchial Dieulafoy disease" through Pubmed, Web of Science, CNKI and Wanfang databases, covering the literature related to BDD that was definitely diagnosed or highly suspect

Dieulafoy's disease of the bronchial tree: a case report.

CONTEXT:: Dieulafoy's disease of the bronchial tree is a very rare condition. Few cases have been reported in the literature. It can be asymptomatic or manifest with massive hemoptysis. This disease should be considered among heavy smokers when recurrent massive hemoptysis is present amid otherwise normal findings. The treatment can be arterial embolization or surgical intervention. CASE REPORT:: A 16-year-old girl was admitted to the emergency department due to hemoptysis with an unknown lesion in the bronchi. She had suffered massive hemoptysis and respiratory failure one week before admiss

Bronchiolitis and bronchial disorders in interstitial lung disease.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Bronchial and bronchiolar abnormalities in interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are an issue often underestimated. However, new interstitial patterns with bronchiolar involvement are being described and the concept is still evolving. The scope of this review is to introduce a comprehensive approach to airway disorders in the context of ILDs, mainly from a pathologic perspective. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent studies have revealed significant inflammatory and structural alterations at the level of small airways in idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, which may participate in the lung-

[Carrington's disease without eosinophils in the bronchial lavage].

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic chronic eosinophilic pneumonia (ICEP) or Carrington's disease is an infiltration of the lung parenchyma by eosinophils without known cause. The diagnosis of ICEP is based on well defined clinical and radiological characteristics associated with blood and/or alveolar eosinophilia. Alveolar hypereosinophilia is marked and regarded as a constant feature. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 57 year old man seen on account of a cough and deterioration of general health associated with radiographic peripheral pulmonary infiltrates, blood hypereosinophilia but no hypereosin

[Bronchial presentation of stage IVB Hodgkins disease].

INTRODUCTION: Bronchial localisation of Hodgkins disease has been described only rarely and it is exceptional as the presenting feature. More frequently the clinical presentation is extrinsic bronchial compression. OBSERVATION: Mr B.C., 34 years old, had a past history of cured alcoholism and abuse of cannabis and buprenorphine. In February 2001 he presented with generalised pruritus, weight loss of 8 kg in one year, a 1 cm node above the right clavicle, hypereosinophilia, and CT evidence of non-obstructive mediastinal adenopathy and interstitial lesions in the right lower lobe. Five months l

Bronchial responsiveness in patients with mitral valve disease.

Bronchial responsiveness has been evaluated in patients with chronic lung congestion secondary to mitral valve disease. Methacholine bronchial challenge was performed by intermittent aerosol generation in 31 patients with mitral valve disease, 18 in New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class II and 13 in NYHA Class III, non-atopic and with baseline forced expiratory volume in one second/vital capacity (FEV1/VC) greater than 85% of predicted and in 30 normal controls. Haemodynamic data were available in 17 patients. The methacholine bronchial provocation dose causing a 35% fall of airway conductan

Bronchial hyperreactivity to methacholine in farmers' lung disease.

Methacholine inhalation challenges were performed in five groups: 14 patients with history of farmers' lung disease (FLD), nine well farmers with precipitating antibodies to Micropolyspora faeni antigen, II normal subjects, 12 asthmatic patients, and 10 patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) other than hypersensitivity pneumonitis. After calculating the mean areas under the dose-response curves, FLD patients had a significantly greater degree of methacholine sensitivity than did well farmers with M. faeni antibody and normals. However, the methacholine sensitivity of FLD patients was in

Chronic bronchial suppuration and inflammatory bowel disease.

Seven patients with severe, unexplained chronic bronchial suppuration and inflammatory bowel disease are reported. In three, rapidly progressive bronchiectasis developed within one year of procto-colectomy, in two it developed in association with an exacerbation of colitis and in the other two a milder, limited colitis post-dated the start of the lung disease. The high incidence of arthropathy and skin rashes suggests a systemic disease, and personal and family histories of auto-immune conditions were common. Antinuclear antibodies were detected in six and smooth muscle antibodies in five of t

Clinical characteristics and treatments for bronchial Dieulafoy's disease.

BACKGROUND: Dieulafoy's disease of the bronchus is an arterial abnormality characterized by enlarged mucosal arterial branches that are susceptible to lethal bleeding. To date, this disease is rarely reported in the literature. We recently encountered three patients from February 2010 to March 2017, each with such a vascular anomaly in a bronchus with massive hemoptysis. AIM: This paper describes the clinical characteristics and treatments for Dieulafoy's disease. METHODS: We report three cases with recurrent massive hemoptysis. Bronchoscopic examination was performed on two patients, one wi

Bronchial hyperreactivity and immunoglobulin E in Behçet's disease.

Behçet's disease in a multisystem panvasculitis of unknown etiology. Pulmonary manifestations are rare, and there is no specific test to establish the inflammation for the precise differentiation between the active and inactive cases. Bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) measured by methacholine challenge test and serum total IgE concentrations were investigated in 31 patients who were followed at Behçet's Center in hospital clinic and ten healthy controls. The patients studied had no evidence of neither any pulmonary disease-both allergic and nonallergic-nor family history of atopy. In 14 patients

Bronchial hyperreactivity in patients with mitral valve disease.

To elicit the mechanism of bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) in chronic heart failure (CHF), a methacholine inhalation test, pulmonary function test, and cardiac catheterization were performed in 19 patients with mitral valve disease (MVD), and the change of severity of BHR before and after mitral valve replacement (MVR) was also examined in seven of 19 patients with MVD. Sixteen of 19 patients with MVD showed significant increase in respiratory resistance in methacholine inhalation test, while all normal subjects did not. Bronchial eosinophilic infiltration in Crohn's disease in the absence of pulmonary disease.

BACKGROUND: Immunological and functional bronchopulmonary abnormalities may be present in up to two-thirds of patients with Crohn's disease. Having recently described a mild increase in methacholine airways responsiveness in these patients, we investigated whether this physiological abnormality is associated with bronchial inflammation since it has previously been described in asthma. METHODS: Eighteen patients with Crohn's disease and 15 healthy controls matched for age, atopy and smoking habit, were studied. All the subjects underwent a bronchial methacholine challenge (1, 4 and 16 mg/mL) a

[Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system blockers in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases combined with bronchial obstruction diseases: a review].

The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is the main target of pharmacological agents used to achieve blood pressure reduction as well as cardio- and nephroprotection in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, the use of drugs from this group, primarily angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors), may lead to the development of adverse events (AEs) in patients with obstructive lung diseases (OLD). ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) have comparable efficacy in the treatment of CVD. In the event of AEs, patients receiving ACE inhibitors

[Azithromycine and chronic bronchial diseases: For which patients? For which benefits? With what modalities?].

Azithromycin is a macrolide widely used in chronic bronchial diseases due to its anti-inflammatory properties. This treatment is prescribed to patients with bronchiectasis, asthma and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who present more than 3 exacerbations per year or a deterioration of respiratory function despite an optimal treatment. Macrolides decrease the number of exacerbation but azythromycine must be prescribed carefully. Indeed, it involves potential cardiovascular and otological toxicities and the emergence of resistant bacteria. In addition, studies remain insufficient to

A Case of Bronchial Dieulafoy's Disease Presenting as an Endobronchial Polypoid Lesion That Regressed After Bronchial Artery Embolisation.

A 37-year-old woman presented to the hospital with a history of a small amount of hemoptysis. Bronchoscopy revealed a polypoid lesion in the left main bronchus. Due to oozing bleeding from the lesion, biopsy was deferred to avoid fatal haemorrhage risk. Bronchial angiography revealed an abnormal tortuous branch with pulmonary artery shunting. Bronchial artery embolisation with coils was successfully performed without complications. Bronchial Dieulafoy's disease was diagnosed. Follow-up bronchoscopy approximately 4 months post-embolisation showed regression of the polypoid lesion, with residual

Divergent responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection in bronchial epithelium with pre-existing respiratory diseases.

Pre-existing respiratory diseases may influence coronavirus disease (COVID-19) susceptibility and severity. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the airway epithelial response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection severity in patients with chronic respiratory diseases remain unelucidated. Using an in vitro model of differentiated primary bronchial epithelial cells, we aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pre-existing cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Our study revealed reduced s
