Modulation of microbial community and metabolism through Lactiplantibacillus argentoratensis AGMB00912 supplementation in weaning piglets.

Dietary supplementation effects with Lactiplantibacillus argentoratensis strain AGMB00912 (LA) on gut microbiota and metabolic functions of weaned piglets were investigated. Eight 25-day-old weaned piglets were evenly divided into a control group and an LA-supplemented group, with the LA group receiving 1.0 × 108 CFU/mL of LA daily for 10 days. Fecal samples taken on the 10th day were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing to assess microbial composition and metabolic function prediction. Supplementation with LA promoted a stable microbial environment by increasing the relative abundance of s

Deciphering the causal link between gut microbiota and membranous nephropathy: insights into potential inflammatory mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Membranous nephropathy (MN), a leading cause of adult nephrotic syndrome and renal failure, has been linked to gut microbiota (GM) and their metabolites. However, direct causal relationships and therapeutic implications remain unclear. METHODS: We utilized a comprehensive GWAS dataset that encompasses GM, metabolites, and MN through two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses, bidirectional MR evaluations, and detailed sensitivity tests. RESULTS: We identified strong causal associations between nine specific types of GM, including class Clostridia (OR = 1.816, 95%CI: 1.021-3

Exploring causal gut-brain axes in Alzheimer's disease using mediation Mendelian randomization analysis.

BackgroundAlzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition with unclear etiology. Recent studies suggest gut microbiota may be involved in AD pathogenesis through imbalances that increase intestinal permeability, affect blood-brain barrier function, and promote neuroinflammation. However, observational studies are susceptible to confounding biases and reverse causality.ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore causal relationships between gut microbiota, brain imaging-derived phenotypes (IDPs), and AD using mediation Mendelian randomization analysis to identify specific gut-bra

Glaucoma Patients Have a Lower Abundance of Butyrate-Producing Taxa in the Gut.

PURPOSE: Glaucoma is an eye disease that is the most common cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. It has been suggested that gut microbiota can produce reactive oxygen species and pro-inflammatory cytokines that may travel from the gastric mucosa to distal sites, for example, the optic nerve head or trabecular meshwork. There is evidence for a gut-eye axis, as microbial dysbiosis has been associated with retinal diseases. We investigated the microbial composition in patients with glaucoma and healthy controls. Moreover, we analyzed the association of the gut microbiome with intraocular pr

Persistence of salivary antibody responses after COVID-19 vaccination is associated with oral microbiome variation in both healthy and people living with HIV.

Coevolution of microbiome and immunity at mucosal sites is essential for our health. Whether the oral microbiome, the second largest community after the gut, contributes to the immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines is not known. We investigated the baseline oral microbiome in individuals in the COVAXID clinical trial receiving the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine. Participants (n=115) included healthy controls (HC; n=57) and people living with HIV (PLHIV; n=58) who met the study selection criteria. Vaccine-induced Spike antibodies in saliva and serum from 0 to 6 months were assessed and comparative analyse

Composition of Ileal Bacterial Community in Grazing Goats Varies across Non-rumination, Transition and Rumination Stages of Life.

The establishment of gut microbiota is increasingly recognized as a crucial action in neonatal development, host health and productivity. We hypothesized that the ileal microbiome shifted as goats matured, and this colonization process would be associated with host fermentation capacity. To this end, 18 Liuyang black grazing goats were randomly slaughtered at d 0, 7, 28, 42, and 70. Ileal microbiota was profiled by Miseq sequencing of 16S rRNA gene of bacteria, and fermentation capacity [volatile fatty acid, activities of amylase, carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) and xylanase] was determined us

Influence of Dietary Forage Neutral Detergent Fiber on Ruminal Fermentation, Chewing Activity, Nutrient Digestion, and Ruminal Microbiota of Hu Sheep.

As the key components of dietary carbohydrates, ensuring a balance between forage-neutral detergent fiber (FNDF) and rumen-degradable starch (RDS) is essential for ruminant health. Eight male Hu sheep equipped with rumen cannulas were randomly divided into four groups based on dietary FNDF content: low FNDF (L-FNDF, 6.08%), middle low FNDF (ML-FNDF, 9.47%), middle high FNDF (MH-FNDF, 12.48%), and high FNDF (H-FNDF, 15.68%), while the RDS levels (15.65% of DM on average) were similar among the four groups. A replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design was employed in this study. The results indicated

Role of immune cells in mediating the effect of gut microbiota on Hashimoto's thyroiditis: a 2-sample Mendelian randomization study.

PURPOSE: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most commonly encountered types of autoimmune thyroid disorders (AITDs), influenced by environmental factors, genetics, and the immune system. Previous research has shown a correlation between gut microbiota and HT, as well as the involvement of immune cells in its onset and progression. We aimed to investigate whether immune cells act as intermediaries in the causal relationship between gut microbiota and HT. METHODS: In this study, we conducted bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to explore the relationship betwe
