Tray tooth bleaching involves the use of carbamide peroxide in a custom-fitted tray to bleach teeth. One of the most difficult stains to bleach is tetracycline. This paper will present several different patient situations of tetracycline-stained teeth being bleached and will discuss the benefits and limitations of bleaching tetracycline-stained teeth. By providing the patient with realistic potential outcomes of bleaching, as well as the preservation of tooth structure and cost-benefit ratio of bleaching compared to veneers or crowns, the chance for a successful acceptance of the outcome is be

Today's society dictates that it is the norm for people to have straight, white teeth. The demand therefore for tooth whitening in dental practice has increased exponentially over the last decade. A common approach to achieving this goal is by bleaching. This article discusses clinical aspects of dental bleaching by providing an evidence-based review of current literature. Topics covered include aetiology of tooth discolouration, indications for bleaching, its mode of action, different types of bleaching regimes, indications and potential side effects.

Iron-impregnated biochar-activated urea-hydrogen peroxide (FB-activated UHP) is a potential in-situ technology for simultaneously reducing soil sulfonamide antibiotic contaminants and improving soil fertility. To better understand the degradation of sulfonamide antibiotics by FB-activated UHP, a two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (2D-QSAR) model based on quantum chemical parameters and a three-dimensional QSAR (3D-QSAR) model based on molecular force field were developed to investigate the factors influencing the removal efficiencies (Re%). The optimal 2D-QSAR model w

This clinical report illustrates a conservative technique to mask enamel discolorations in maxillary anterior teeth caused by hypomineralization associated with enamel fluorosis and subsequent direct resin composite to improve the anterior esthetics. The treatment consisted of at-home whitening with 10% carbamide peroxide gel with potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride in a custom-fitted tray to mask the brown-stained areas, followed by resin infiltration to mask the white spot areas. An existing resin composite restoration in the maxillary right central incisor was subsequently replaced after

Invasive multiple cervical root resorptions after vital tooth bleaching is a rare condition. The aim of this article is to present a case of multiple external cervical root resorptions (ECRR) after a misguided home whitening treatment. A 34 year old male patient presented with slight sensitivity and mobility in several teeth. Despite the manufacturer's recommendations, the patient used a 22% carbamide peroxide-based tooth bleaching gel at home for 4 days consecutively, at night, on the upper and lower arches. Clinical examination revealed gingival swelling, probing depths ranging 5-7 mm on the

Peroxides present in oral healthcare products generally exert favourable protective activities against the development and progression of tooth decay, plaque, gingivitis, and halitosis, etc. However, despite the high level of research focus on hydrogen and carbamide peroxides as therapeutically active (and tooth-whitening) agents, to date the use of alternative chemical forms of peroxides such as peroxoborates for these purposes has received only scant attention. Intriguingly, peroxoborate and its esters with polyols, such as glycerol, have a very diverse chemistry/biochemistry in aqueous solu

Oxygen inhibits polymerization of resin-based materials. We hypothesized that compromised bonding to bleached enamel can be reversed with sodium ascorbate, an anti-oxidant. Sandblasted human enamel specimens were treated with distilled water (control) and 10% carbamide peroxide gel with or without further treatment with 10% sodium ascorbate. They were bonded with Single Bond (3M-ESPE) or Prime&Bond NT (Dentsply DeTrey) and restored with a composite. Specimens were prepared for microtensile bond testing and transmission electron microscopy after immersion in ammoniacal silver nitrate for nanole

Developmental enamel defects can negatively affect esthetics and patient satisfaction. Minimally invasive treatments have emerged as alternatives to conventional restorations, but quantitative evaluation of their outcomes is limited. The objective of this case report was to assess the efficacy of a combined minimally invasive approach in improving enamel appearance using objective color and fluorescence measurements. A 23-year-old male patient presented with enamel hypoplasia and opacities on 24 teeth. The treatment protocol included: (1) three weeks of at-home bleaching with 16% carbamide per

Background and Objectives: In-office bleaching is one of the most requested aesthetic procedures, but its biomechanical aftermath on enamel-particularly the recovery trajectory of microhardness, surface roughness, and erosive vulnerability-remains incompletely characterised. The present study quantified the 28-day mechanical recovery profile of enamel after three commonly used chairside bleaching protocols and examined inter-relationships between mechanical, topographic and erosive endpoints. Methods: Forty-two human molars and premolars (27 molars, 15 premolars) extracted for clinical reasons
