Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare complication of pancreatic diseases. We aimed to evaluate a case of pancreatic panniculitis. A 58-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with complaints of painful cutaneous nodules on her limbs. Various diagnostic tests confirmed pancreatic panniculitis and pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma. We diagnosed pancreatic panniculitis by a skin nodule biopsy that revealed fine basophilic material within anucleate cells and neutrophil infiltration. Abdominal imaging detected a tumor with necrosis on the pancreas and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspi

Cutaneous adenosquamous carcinoma is a mixed, squamous and glandular, rare malignant tumor of the skin characterized by a mixed, squamous, and glandular differentiation. Few cases of this tumor have been so far reported, and even fewer have been thoroughly studied by immunohistochemistry. We report here an exceptional case of cutaneous adenosquamous carcinoma which showed immunohistochemically features of intestinal differentiation, namely because of the expression of keratin 20 and CDX2, a marker of gastrointestinal tumors.

Adenosquamous carcinomas of the colorectum are rare neoplasms. Our experience with two cases is presented in this paper. One patient, who complained of bloody stool, was found to have adenocarcinoma in the sigmoid colon. He received a laparoscopy-assisted sigmoidectomy. The histological examination revealed that the tumor was adenosquamous carcinoma. To date, he has survived six months post operatively without evidence of recurrence. The other patient, who complained of anal bleeding, was found to have rectal adenocarcinoma and received a low anterior resection. Histological examination reveal

We report herein the case of a 59-year-old man found to have adenosquamous carcinoma of the remnant stomach which demonstrated rapid progression. The patient was admitted to our hospital to undergo surgery for a papillary tumor of the remnant stomach. Total resection of the remnant stomach with lymph node dissection was performed, and pathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of adenosquamous carcinoma with invasion into the muscularis propria and lymph node metastasis around the perigastric areas. Multiple liver metastases were found 6 months after the operation, for which a right hepate

Cancers containing histologically distinct cell populations could arise from multiple transforming events, from transdifferentiation late in tumor evolution, or from a single progenitor cell. Poulain and colleagues show that glandular and squamous cells in adenosquamous carcinomas caused by human papillomavirus infection are descendants of a common ancestor.

BACKGROUND: Data are scarce regarding biliary adenosquamous carcinoma (BASC) due to its low incidence. BASC displays a worse prognosis than adenocarcinoma and its specific treatment is still an unmet medical need. We conducted a description analysis of BASC including clinicopathologic parameters and treatment outcomes.
METHODS: All consecutive patients with histologically proven BASC diagnosed in six French hospitals between 2000 and 2022 were enrolled and described.
RESULTS: A total of 16 BASC, accounting for 1.4 % of all biliary tract carcinoma, were included and the BASC incidence increas

Hypercalcemia as a complication of carcinoma of the colon is uncommon (1). It usually occurs in the presence of anorectal or rectal carcinoma that metastasizes to the lumbosacral vertebrae (2-4). Hypercalcemia complicating colon carcinoma in the absence of bone metastases--so-called humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy or paraneoplastic hypercalcemia--is rare. Only two such cases associated with adenocarcinoma of the colon (5,6) and two cases associated with adenosquamous carcinoma of the distal colon (rectum and sigmoid) (7) have been reported. We describe the first reported case of an adenosq

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) and adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) have overlapping histopathological appearances and sites of occurrence, which may cause diagnostic difficulty impacting subsequent treatment. We conducted a systematic review of the scientific literature to determine whether molecular alterations were sufficiently different in MEC and ASC to aid in classifying the two entities. We searched Medline, Embase and Web of Science for studies reporting molecular determinations of ASC and/or MEC and screened retrieved records for eligibility. Two independent researchers reviewed included

A 68-year-old woman with a breast mass was referred to our hospital. Imaging studies showed an oval well-defined mass, 1.3 cm in size, in her left lower outer quadrant of the breast. Core needle biopsy with immunohistochemical staining showed atypical spindle cells forming solid nests with necrosis and papillary lesions, leading to the tentative and pre-operative diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma. Due to the absence of daughter nodules, extensive ductal spread, and lymphadenopathy on imaging evaluation, the patient underwent breast-conserving surgery and sentinel node biopsy, resulting in

INTRODUCTION: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disorder characterized by multiple fibrotic strictures of the bile duct. More than 40% of deaths in PSC patients are related to malignant tumors, including cholangiocarcinoma. Primary hepatic adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is a rare subtype of cholangiocarcinoma containing adenocarcinoma (AC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) components, with a poorer prognosis than other cholangiocarcinomas. We report the first case of a hepatic ASC in a patient with PSC.
CASE REPORT: A 28-year-old man was referred for diagnosis

A 10-year-old, female spayed Shih Tzu was presented due to weight loss, increased respiratory effort and lethargy, determined to be secondary to a congenital para-esophageal diaphragmatic defect with partial herniation of the stomach and spleen. Four days following reduction surgery of the displaced abdominal organs thoracic effusion developed. Thoracic fluid evaluation revealed a cell-rich, protein-poor modified transudate with neutrophils, reactive mesothelial cells, and atypical epitheloid cells which occasionally appeared to be keratinizing, consistent with neoplastic exfoliation. Thoracic

Most malignant tumors originating from the biliary tract are adenocarcinomas, and adenosqamous carcinoma of Klatskin's tumor is a very rare finding. An 83-yr-old man was admitted to our hospital because of jaundice. The abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed wall thickening and luminal stenosis of both the intrahepatic duct confluent portion and the common hepatic duct. These findings were compatible with Klatskin's tumor, Bismuth type III. Considering the patient's old age, palliative combined modality therapy was performed. After percutaneous t

The use of less radical procedures for the treatment of early cervical cancers is gaining interest among physicians and young patients. Some authors have described surgical procedures aimed at reducing the surgical aggressiveness but the safety of such procedures remains debated. After a polypectomy, a young patient had a diagnosis of stage Ia(2) cervical adenosquamous carcinoma in 1995. As she wished to preserve her fertility, she underwent a cone biopsy and pelvic lymphadenectomy, without evidence of tumor spread. In 1998, at the 13th week of gestation, she had a diagnosis of a pelvic mass.

Primary adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) of the liver is a rare subtype of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Hepatic ASC consists of both adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma components. Because hepatic ASC is extremely rare, only a few cases describing the imaging findings of hepatic ASC were reported before. Herein, we present FDG PET/CT findings of hepatic ASC in a 78-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital with a 4-week history of right upper quadrant pain.

Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is defined as a very rare subset of colorectal cancer containing both adenocarcinoma (AC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) components. ASC is more aggressive for resulting in a poorer prognosis than AC alone. To date, only few cases were recorded previously. Here, we reported that a 46-year-old woman was caught by abdominal pain and hematochezia for more than 20 days and she visited the emergency room with increasing abdominal pain and vomiting for nearly one day. Physical examination indicated direct tenderness in the navel and lower abdomen distension. Laborato

INTRODUCTION: Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) of the bile duct is a rare diagnosis with poorly understood clinicopathological characteristics and disease progression, so identification of the features associated with ASC patient survival is warranted.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A population cohort study was performed using prospectively extracted data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database for patients with histological diagnoses of ASC of the bile duct from 1973 to 2013.
RESULTS: A total of 106 patients with ASC of the bile duct were included (mean age 68.1±13.5 years
