Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Nasopharynx: A Pediatric Case.

Neuroendocrine tumors are rare, preferentially located in the gastrointestinal tract or in the lungs. We present the case of a 9-year-old child, presenting with a tissue mass involving the nasopharynx and associated with multiple pulmonary and bone metastases. The immunohistochemical analysis showed a proliferation of large tumor cells stained with Chromogranin A and Synaptophysin. The diagnosis of multimetastatic large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma was made. This tumor is infrequent in this location and particularly in children. This case describes the pathologic aspects and immunohistochemic

[Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the nasopharynx: A case report].

Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the head and neck is a rare entity. The parotid gland is the most commonly affected site. A nasopharyngeal site has not been previously described. We report a 35-year-old patient who consulted for tinnitus and nasal obstruction. The assessment found a nasopharyngeal tumour T4N0M0. The patient underwent 6 cycles of chemotherapy based on VP16 and cisplatin, followed by radiotherapy at a dose of 70 Gy to the nasopharynx and 50 Gy to the neck. The evolution was marked by clinical improvement and radiological stability. Six months after the end of treatment, the patient

Unknown primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) in the mediastinum.

Unknown primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) in the mediastinum is extremely rare. In this report, we present a case of a 53-year-old man with superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome who developed LCNEC in the middle mediastinum. His chief complaint was facial edema. Chest X-ray revealed an abnormal shadow in the right upper mediastinum. Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest revealed a 67-mm mass in the middle mediastinum. Tumor invasion caused constriction of the SVC. The patient underwent induction chemoradiotherapy with vinorelbin and cisplatin and concurrent radiation therapy

CK20 Positive Large-cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma Presenting with Skin Metastases.

We present a case of cytokeratin (CK) 20-positive large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) presenting with multiple skin metastases as the primary manifestation. The patient was a 55-year-old man who presented with a one- month history of subcutaneous skin colored nodules of various sizes on his trunk. Pathologic examination of the skin revealed a nested and solid proliferation of large undifferentiated cells with vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli. Tumor cells were found to be immunohistochemically positive for CK 20, chromogranin A, synaptophysin, and CD56. Based on these features, t

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma arising from the left main bronchus.

A 67-year-old man was referred to our hospital for a detailed medical examination of a bronchial polyp that was detected during chest computed tomography. Bronchoscopic examination revealed a tumor that almost occluded the main left bronchus. Nd-YAG laser treatment and tumor removal with biopsy forceps were conducted. On the basis of the histopathological and immunohistochemical features, large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), T2aN0M0, stage IB was diagnosed. After induction chemotherapy with a combination of cisplatin and etoposide, a sleeve resection of the left main bronchus with tele

Synchronous large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the colon.

Large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the colon is a rare entity with a prognosis that is usually poor due to the high likelihood of early metastasis. A 61-year-old man had surgery for colon cancer of the transverse colon and cecum. Microscopic examination of the tumor showed that the location was the proximal transverse colon, with small nests containing rosettes and palisading patterns of large tumor cells with faintly granular cytoplasm. The immunohistochemistry was positive for synaptophysin and chromogranins. The tumors were diagnosed as a large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the colon

Combined large cell neuroendocrine and endometrioid carcinoma of the endometrium.

We present the surgical and pathological findings and follow-up of 5 women diagnosed with combined endometrioid and high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma of large cell type (LCNEC) arising in the endometrium. The mean age of the women was 75 years (range, 50-88 years). Of the 5 tumors, 4 formed polypoid endometrial masses associated with extensive lymphovascular involvement of the myometrium by neoplastic cells. A single endometrial tumor was formed by LCNEC alone, and 4 tumors were composite with varying proportions formed by endometrioid (4/5) and small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (1/5). In

Large cell carcinoma of the lung with isolated jejunal metastasis.

Isolated small bowel metastasis of bronchogenic carcinoma is so distinctly unusual that only three previous case reports have been located. The authors report the case of a 59-year-old white male, who succumbed due to complications of a jejunal metastasis two months after left upper lobectomy for large cell carcinoma. The diagnosis was suspected preoperatively on the basis of a CT scan.

Metastatic large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma: a rare cause of hypopituitarism.

Pituitary metastases from pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) are exceedingly rare but should be considered in patients presenting with arginine vasopressin deficiency and panhypopituitarism in the context of known or suspected metastatic lung cancer. Early recognition and prompt initiation of hormonal replacement therapy are essential to prevent life-threatening endocrine crises and to improve symptom burden. We describe a case of a 43-year-old male who presented with dyspnea, weight loss, and weakness who was found to have metastatic LCNEC involving the liver. Endocrine eva

Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy for pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma: case report.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (pLCNEC) represents a rare malignancy characterized by its aggressive behavior and a notably high recurrence rate. Remarkably, there is currently no established standard treatment protocol for this condition. CASE DESCRIPTION: In this report, we present an intriguing case of pLCNEC diagnosed at clinical-stage IIB. This case involves a 64-year-old man with a smoking history spanning four decades. In our approach, we initiated a course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in combination with pembrolizumab, administered for two cycles prior to sur

[Alectinib and mixed large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung.].

The treatment of mixed large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma is less studied due to its low incidence. However, the presence of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion gene is rare in such tumours, ALK inhibitors may represent a promising therapeutic option instead of cytostatic therapy. Routine chest X-ray and then computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a pulmonary tumour in a 52-year-old asymptomatic woman. The neoplasm was removed by lobectomy. Histological examination confirmed papillary predominant lung adenocarcinoma. The patient was treated with postoperative chemotherapy and irrad

Large-cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung with Carcinoid Syndrome.

A 76-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for refractory diarrhea with a poor antidiarrheal effect. Chest and abdominal computed tomography revealed a 24×22-mm mass in the left upper lobe of lung and multiple masses in the liver. Urine 5-Hydroxy indol acetic acid was markedly elevated. A liver biopsy revealed large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma with serotonin production, suggestive of a lung origin, and a lung biopsy revealed combined large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Therefore, we made a definitive diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome caused by large-cell neur

Bronchial intraepithelial recurrence of a pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: We encountered a case of a large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma with bronchial intraepithelial spread, a unique form of recurrence. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 63-year-old man underwent middle lobectomy and systematic lymph node dissection for lung cancer. The pathological diagnosis was a large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, and the pathological stage of the tumor was T2aN0M0, stage IB. At 30 months after surgery, the patient complained of continuous cough, and computed tomography revealed a thickened right upper bronchus. Transbronchial biopsy revealed a large cell neuroendocrine ca

Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Bladder with Adenocarcinomatous Component.

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNC) is one of the rarest types of bladder cancer occurring in <1%. Either pure or mixed with another component, it remains one of the most aggressive types of bladder cancer. We report a case of LCNC of the bladder with an adenocarcinomatous component. The patient was a 64-year-old smoker male, who presented for the first time with dysuria and hematuria. A bladder tumor invading the anterior and right lateral bladder walls was discovered, without any secondary localizations. Tumor biopsy showed an LCNC with adenocarcinomatous components. The patient was t

Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Colon With Carcinomatosis Peritonei.

Colorectal large-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are extremely rare and have very poor prognosis compared to adenocarcinomas. A 74-year-old man presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea and hematochezia. The histopathologic report of colonoscopic biopsy performed at a local clinic was a poorly differentiated carcinoma. An abdominopelvic computed scan revealed irregularly enhanced wall thickening at the sigmoid colon with regional fat stranding and lymphnode enlargement. He underwent a laparoscopic high anterior resection with selective peritonectomy for peritoneal carcinomatosis, intraoper

A large proliferating trichilemmal cyst masquerading as squamous cell carcinoma.

Proliferating trichilemmal cyst (PTC), a rare benign tumor, is a fascinating follicular neoplasm. It occurs on head and neck region of elderly women and its histologic hallmark is trichilemmal keratinization. A 70-year-old female presented to skin outpatient department with complaints of a slowly growing mass on scalp for the past 2 years. On examination, the lesion was firm, mobile, painless, and measured 6 × 5 × 3 cm and was not fixed to the underlying bone. Laboratory investigations were unremarkable. Excisional biopsy was done. Histopathology revealed well-demarcated tumor with variably si

Multimodality therapy for large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus.

A case of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus successfully treated with chemoradiation, followed by extended resection under cardiopulmonary bypass, is reported. A 44-year-old man diagnosed with thymic large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma received induction chemoradiation therapy (3 cycles of cisplatin/etoposide and 45 Gy of hyperfractionated radiation) because of invasion to the aortic arch and pulmonary trunk. After radiographic partial response was noted, a radical resection under cardiopulmonary bypass was performed. Pathologic examination revealed no viable cells in the tumor
