Dynamic obstruction of right coronary ostium by a papillary fibroelastoma: a case report on alternative causes of chest pain and cardiac imaging assessment.

BACKGROUND: Papillary fibroelastomas (PFEs) are one the most common primary cardiac tumours. Although they are benign, their location involves a high risk of adverse events, which have been reported mainly in the form of embolic events, but angina pectoris is another possible, less frequent manifestation. CASE SUMMARY: We present a case of a 72-year-old woman with chest pain symptoms, who was found to have a PFE. As part of pre-operatory study a computed tomography (CT) scan was performed which documented dynamic obstruction of the right coronary artery. Surgery was brought forwards and mass

An infrequent type of stroke with an unusual cause and successful therapy: basilar artery occlusion caused by a cardiac papillary fibroelastoma recanalized 12 hours after onset.

We herein report the case of a 32-year-old woman with sudden onset ataxia, limb dysmetria and somnolence. Emergency radiological findings showed bilateral cerebellar and thalamic infarctions as a result of a basilar artery occlusion. The patient was treated with intra-arterial (IA) and mechanical thrombolysis 12 hours after symptom onset and showed an excellent recovery. A diagnostic workup revealed a tumor mass on the mitral valve that was surgically removed, while a histological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of cardiac papillary fibroelastoma.

A rare case of a pulmonary valve papillary fibroelastoma.

CASE: A 67-year-old female presented with an exceedingly rare cardiac neoplasm - papillary fibroelastoma. This is made rarer still as it occurred on the pulmonary valve. The patient complained of a prolonged history of chest discomfort. Magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography revealed a pulmonary valve papillary fibroelastoma. Surgical excision proved curative and the patient remains asymptomatic to date. DISCUSSION: The literature surrounding papillary fibroelastomas is discussed. Primary cardiac tumours are uncommon. Papillary fibroelastomas occurring the right side of the heart com

Papillary fibroelastoma presenting with multi-organ symptoms.

Papillary fibroelastomas are a rare cardiac neoplasm typically found on the left side of the heart, and most commonly on the aortic valve, which can present with cardiac or neurologic symptoms. A 51-year-old woman with no cardiac history presented to a resident clinic with complaints of left-sided facial paresthesias and palpitations for 1 month. Echocardiographic imaging showed a mass on the aortic annulus, concerning for a cardiac tumor. Due to the risk of possible embolization, if the tumor was a myxoma, the patient required intrathoracic surgery. During the intrathoracic procedure the mass

Left Ventricular Papillary Fibroelastoma.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign primary cardiac tumor typically found on the valvular structures of the heart. Nonvalvular papillary fibroelastomas are exceedingly rare. We report the case of a 66-year-old male who presented with cerebellar infarctions and was found to have a mobile mass attached to the endocardial surface of the anteroseptal wall of the left ventricle. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated late gadolinium enhancement. Surgical excision of the cardiac mass was performed via the transaortic approach without intra-operative complications. A surgical case of papillary fibroelastoma originating from the left atrial ridge.

Papillary fibroelastomas are benign cardiac tumors with high embolic tendency, and usually originate from the cardiac valve. We report the case of a 49-year-old man who experienced sudden right hemiplegia and aphasia. Transesophageal echocardiography indicated a swinging tumor originating from the left atrial ridge between the orifice of the left atrial appendage and the anterolateral mitral annulus. Urgent tumor resection was performed to prevent further embolization. The histological findings of resected tumor were consistent with those of papillary fibroelastoma. To the best of our knowledg

Aortic Valve Papillary Fibroelastoma: A Sea Anemone in the Heart, A Case Report.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas are benign primary cardiac tumors usually arising from the normal components of the endocardium. Grossly they have a characteristic short pedicle and multiple papillary fronds similar to sea anemone. Clinically they have varying presentations ranging from asymptomatic to severe ischemic or embolic complications. We hereby present a case of a middle-aged man who presented with exertional dyspnea and palpitations and was discovered to have papillary fibroelastoma involving the aortic valve. The described case illustrates some of the presenting features, the worku

Papillary fibroelastoma of the left ventricle: report of two cases.

Papillary fibroelastoma is a relatively rare cardiac tumor. We report two cases of papillary fibroelastoma. The first case involved a 45-year-old woman who presented with rheumatic valves and three tumors developing from the papillary muscle and left ventricle. The second case involved a 68-year-old man who was asymptomatic and whose tumor was detected incidentally on echocardiogram. Both cases were treated surgically. An additional 71 cases of papillary fibroelastoma reported in the medical literature in Japan are reviewed.

Papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve presenting with chronic angina and acute stroke: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Papillary fibroelastomas are rare, benign cardiac tumors that are often found on cardiac valvular surfaces. Most are incidental discoveries during surgery or autopsy. The clinical presentation of fibroelastoma varies widely, ranging from clinically asymptomatic to severe thromboembolic events. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of 65-year-old white man diagnosed with scattered, bilateral acute cerebral hemisphere infarcts with a history of chronic angina. Transesophageal echocardiography identified a fibroelastoma on the right coronary cusp of the aortic leaflet. Cardiac catheter

[Papillary Fibroelastoma Arising from Chordae Tendineae of the Mitral Valve Chordae;Report of a Case].

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a rare primary cardiac tumor arising from any part of the endocardium. In particular, papillary fibroelastoma originating from the mitral valve chordae is very rare. A 66-year-old man was hospitalized for a left ventricular tumor. Echocardiography revealed a high echoic mass of the mitral valve chordae with grade I mitral regurgitation. Under cardiopulmonary bypass, we performed excision of the mass and the marginal chordae of the mitral valve, and decided there was no need of valvuloplasty. Pathological diagnosis indicated the tumor was papillary fibroelasto

Central retinal artery occlusion in a patient with aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma are rare benign tumours of the endocardium, often arising from heart valves. Despite their benign histology, papillary fibroelastoma carry high embolic potential and can lead to ischaemic events. In contrast to stroke, ocular embolization including central retinal artery occlusion is a rather rare first manifestation. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 61-year-old female with sudden painless monocular vision loss due to central retinal artery occlusion. Initial stroke and cardiovascular work-up revealed a very small floating mass (0.6 × 0.4 × 0.2 cm) on the

Double valve involvement: papillary fibroelastoma in a patient with severe mitral and aortic valve regurgitation.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a benign neoplasm that arises in the endocardium. It commonly presents as an incidental finding on transthoracic echocardiography or as emboli to the coronary, cerebral or pulmonary vasculature. Clinical manifestations described in the literature have generally been related to a sequelae of the associated embolic phenomenon of these lesions. Valve regurgitation is less common with papillary fibroelastoma and when found, it is not known to cause severe regurgitation requiring valve replacement. We report a case of papillary fibroelastoma in a patient with seve

[Effective Anticoagulation Therapy Prior to Surgical Excision of an Aortic Valve Papillary Fibroelastoma Diagnosed after a Transient Cerebral Ischemic Attack;Report of a Case].

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is reported to be the 2nd most common cardiac tumor following myxoma. Owing to the risk of embolism, early surgical excision is the treatment of choice. We report a case of effective anticoagulation therapy prior to surgical excision of an aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma. A 78-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of transient cerebral ischemic attack. The symptom was relieved in a short period. Echocardiography revealed a tumor at the aortic valve. Cardiac computed tomography revealed a sea-anemone-like appearance of the tumor. Cardiac papillar

Surgical treatment of aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma with neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen's disease).

A 69-year-old man with a medical history of neurofibromatosis was transferred to our hospital for the treatment of an aortic valve mass. His workup identified an aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma based on the absence of signs of infection, thrombus in the left atrium, and valvular destruction or abnormal valvular function. A tumor was excised under cardiopulmonary bypass. The pathology of the mass was a papillary fibroelastoma. Neurofibromatosis with cardiac tumor is extremely rare. This is the first report of a case of papillary fibroelastoma associated with neurofibromatosis.

An uncommon cause of coronary artery ostial obstruction: papillary fibroelastoma.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a benign tumor that mainly affects cardiac valves. The tumor has the potential to cause angina and myocardial infarction due to embolization of tumor fragments. We describe a rare case of right coronary artery ostial obstruction by a 12 x 19 mm sized papillary fibroelastoma located in the sinus of Valsalva. The report underlies the importance of echocardiography in diagnosis and intraoperative treatment of this type of cardiac mass.

Rheumatic heart disease of the mitral valve alongside the papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve: A case report.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Besides thromboses, it's crucial to also consider the rare possibility of tumors like papillary fibroelastomas when evaluating worsening cardiopulmonary symptoms in patients with severe rheumatic mitral stenosis and atrial fibrillation. ABSTRACT: Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a rare and benign endocardial tumor typically found on the aortic valve. The simultaneous occurrence of rheumatic heart disease affecting the mitral valve and papillary fibroelastoma on the aortic valve is infrequent, with limited documented instances. This unique case can enhance our understan

Papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve associated with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis.

With the advent of echocardiography, diagnosis of papillary fibroelastoma in living patients has been made possible, yet papillary fibroelastoma found in the living remains a very rare cardiac tumor. We report a case of papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. A 68-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with a mitral valve tumor and rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. She underwent anticoagulation therapy with Warfarin for 8 years since having a cerebral embolization. Echocardiography revealed a mass attached to the mitral valve, with severe mitral va

Papillary fibroelastoma of aortic valve: diagnosis and surgical management.

Papillary fibroelastoma (PFE) is a rare and benign cardiac tumour that mainly affects the valves. This tumour has the potential to cause serious life threatening thromboembolic complications. Herein, we describe successful excision of an aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma. The importance of valve sparing tumour resection is emphasised.

Incidental tricuspid valve fibroelastoma associated with patent foramen ovale in a young female: Straightforward diagnosis but controversial management.

Papillary fibroelastoma is an uncommon primary cardiac tumor, predominantly associated with left-sided valvular endocardium. Affectation of tricuspid valve leaflets is rare, and management in asymptomatic patients remains controversial. We present a 30-year-old female referred for evaluation prior to bariatric surgery. A routine echocardiogram revealed a mobile cardiac mass attached to the tricuspid valve. A patent foramen ovale was also present. Tumor was surgically removed. Histology confirmed the definite diagnosis of a papillary fibroelastoma. In our case, the presence of a patent foramen

[Papillary fibroelastoma which occurred from the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve; report of a case].

Papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign tumor arising from the cardiac endothelium. In this report, we describe the surgical treatment for mitral valve papillary fibroelastoma with hypothyroidism. A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for the treatment of cardiac tamponade. Echocardiography revealed massive pericardial effusion and a small tumor attached to the posterior mitral leaflet. We drainaged the pericardial effusion, and found that the cause of pericardial effusion was hypothyroidism. After controling the thyroid function, open heart surgery was performed. We excised the tu
