Multifactorial intervention with nurse practitioners does not change cardiovascular outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Strict implementation of guidelines directed at multiple targets reduces vascular risk in diabetic patients. Whether this also applies to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is uncertain. To evaluate this, the MASTERPLAN Study randomized 788 patients with CKD (estimated GFR 20-70 ml/min) to receive additional intensive nurse practitioner support (the intervention group) or nephrologist care (the control group). The primary end point was a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death. During a mean follow-up of 4.62 years, modest but significant decreases were foun

Multi-center development and testing of a simulation-based cardiovascular assessment curriculum for advanced practice nurses.

Cardiovascular assessment skills are deficient among advanced practice nursing students, and effective instructional methods to improve assessment skills are needed. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate outcomes of a cardiovascular assessment curriculum for advanced practice nurses at four institutions. Each institution used a one-group pre-to-post-intervention design. Educational interventions included faculty-led, simulation-based case presentations using the Harvey cardiopulmonary patient simulator (CPS), and independent learning sessions using the CPS and a mul

Knowledge, attitudes, treatment practices, and health behaviors of nurses regarding blood cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practice patterns concerning cholesterol and heart disease were evaluated in a stratified, random sample of 206 registered nurses at a major academic medical center in New York City. Virtually all nurses were convinced of the importance of diet in reducing heart disease risk, and most (78%) agreed that nutrition counseling should be their responsibility. Although only 19% reported that they were currently counseling, many more felt prepared to counsel about diet or drug therapy (43%). Nurses who were likely to counsel were those working in general medicine, those who

Accuracy of Large Language Models in Extracting Literature Features for Cardiovascular Disease Exercise Rehabilitation Nursing: A Diagnostic Study.

BACKGROUND & AIM: Accurate extraction of clinical and methodological features from published literature is essential for supporting evidence-based cardiovascular rehabilitation. With the rapid expansion of research outputs, manual data extraction is time-consuming and prone to errors. Large language models (LLMs) may help automate evidence synthesis tasks, but their performance in document extraction for cardiovascular rehabilitation nursing research remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate the ability of LLMs to extract key literature features in the field of cardiovascular exercise rehabilitati

Level of function mobility scale for nurse-driven early mobilisation in people with acute cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND: There are currently no validated tools that are reliable and easy to use for nurses to assess mobility in people with acute cardiovascular disease in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU). METHODS: A multidisciplinary team at an academic tertiary care centre developed the Level of Function (LOF) Mobility Scale for use in a nurse-driven early progressive mobilisation in the CICU. To determine inter-rater reliability, the prehospital and admission LOF were assessed independently by two CICU nurses. Pairwise comparisons between raters were evaluated using Cohen's kappa statis

Sexual counselling for individuals with cardiovascular disease and their partners: a consensus document from the American Heart Association and the ESC Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (CCNAP).

After a cardiovascular event, patients and their families often cope with numerous changes in their lives, including dealing with consequences of the disease or its treatment on their daily lives and functioning. Coping poorly with both physical and psychological challenges may lead to impaired quality of life. Sexuality is one aspect of quality of life that is important for many patients and partners that may be adversely affected by a cardiac event. The World Health Organization defines sexual health as '… a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality;

Diet and nutrition in cardiovascular disease prevention: a scientific statement of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology and the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the European Society of Cardiology.

What we eat is a cornerstone of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, but health professionals may not have a clear understanding of the current evidence-based research to underpin eating habits and recommendations. This study aims to appraise existing evidence-based research on the importance of diet on CVD risk biomarkers, specifically, the effects of dietary patterns, specific foods, and constituents including vitamins/minerals and plant-derived bioactive compounds on CVD risk. Plant-based dietary patterns rich in minimally processed foods, vegetables, and fruits reduce CVD risk, while p

Knowledge, attitude, and practice of Palestinian critical care nurses about hemodynamic instability in patients with cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: Managing hemodynamic instability in critically ill patients due to cardiovascular disease or, in particular, coronary artery disease requires an integrated and responsive approach. The complexity lies in simultaneously addressing the underlying cardiovascular pathology and managing its systemic effects. The complexity described above involves a careful balance of interventions, including fluid and electrolyte management, pharmacological support, and, in some cases, mechanical circulatory support. The dynamic nature of hemodynamic instability necessitates constant vigilance and rapi
