Comparison of 2% lidocaine with epinephrine and 4% articaine with epinephrine in local anesthesia of maxillary molars affected by molar incisor hypomineralization: a randomized controlled trial.

The use of local anesthesia is essential for pain control during the treatment of MIH-affected molars. This study aimed to compare injection-related pain and anesthetic efficacy between 2% lidocaine with epinephrine (LE) and 4% articaine with epinephrine (AE) in the MIH-affected maxillary molars of pediatric patients. Twenty-six children aged 6 to 12 years requiring restorative treatment of MIH-affected maxillary molars were enrolled. Participants randomly received one of the two anesthetic solutions (LE or AE) at the first visit; the other solution was administered at the second visit. Inject

Comparison of Efficacy of Lidocaine and Articaine as Inferior Alveolar Nerve Blocking Agents in Patients with Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background and Objectives: Lidocaine Hydrochloride has been the standard choice for local anesthesia in dentistry and Articaine's unique structure and growing popularity make it a viable alternative. Due to contradictory results in prior research and a scarcity of trials conducted in the Pakistani population, this study aims to compare the anesthetic efficacy of Lidocaine with Articaine for inferior alveolar nerve blocks in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Materials and Methods: This double-blinded, randomized controlled trial included 152 patients who were selected by consecut

Allergy to local anaesthetics in dentistry. Myth or reality?

BACKGROUND: Local anesthetics (LA) are frequently used in dentistry. Although these drugs are usually well-tolerated, they can sometimes provoke adverse reactions of various types and severity. The true incidence of LA allergic reactions is unknown. The objectives of this study were (i) to evaluate the incidence of immediate adverse events in subjects requiring local anesthetic injection in order to receive dental treatment; (ii) to assess the incidence of anaphylactic allergic reactions among those recorded as adverse events and (iii) to analyze the relationship between the atopic antecedents

Can buccal infiltration of articaine replace traditional inferior alveolar nerve block for the treatment of mandibular molars in pediatric patients?: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: It is unclear if buccal articaine infiltration can be used as an alternative to standard inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) for treating mandibular molars in pediatric patients. Therefore, this study aimed to pool evidence to compare the efficacy of buccal infiltration of articaine vs IANB with lignocaine for pediatric dental procedures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We searched the PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the two techniques in pediatric patients and reporting the success of anesthesia and/or

Articaine in functional NLC show improved anesthesia and anti-inflammatory activity in zebrafish.

Anesthetic failure is common in dental inflammation processes, even when modern agents, such as articaine, are used. Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) are systems with the potential to improve anesthetic efficacy, in which active excipients can provide desirable properties, such as anti-inflammatory. Coupling factorial design (FD) for in vitro formulation development with in vivo zebrafish tests, six different NLC formulations, composed of synthetic (cetyl palmitate/triglycerides) or natural (avocado butter/olive oil/copaiba oil) lipids were evaluated for loading articaine. The formulations

A novel LC-MS/MS analytical method for detection of articaine and mepivacaine in blood and its application to a preliminary pharmacokinetic study.

Local anaesthetics (LAs) are commonly used in surgery, especially in dentistry. They cause a transitory inhibition of nerve signal due to the blockade of the voltage-gated sodium channels. LAs are administrated alone or with vasoconstriction agents, such as adrenaline. Toxicity of LAs is associated to neurological and cardiovascular alterations. Tachycardia, arrhythmia, tremors, tonic-clonic seizure and respiratory depression (at high doses) are the main symptoms of intoxication by LAs. Lidocaine, articaine and mepivacaine are among the most used anaesthetics. This study aimed to fully validat

Local anesthetics: dentistry's most important drugs, clinical update 2006.

Local anesthetics are the safest most effective drugs in medicine for the control and management of pain. They also represent the most important drugs in dentistry. Today, dentistry has a spectrum of local anesthetics that permit pain control to be tailored to the specific needs of the patient: short-, intermediate-, and long-acting drugs. Bupivacaine has become a standard part of the armamentarium for postsurgical pain control while articaine has become the second-most used local anesthetic in the United States since its introduction in 2000. Despite an increase in anecdotal reports of parest

Retrospective Analysis of the Safety of High-Volume Dental Articaine Preparations for Japanese Patients.

We retrospectively analyzed the safety of the use of articaine, an amide-type local anesthetic, in Japanese dental patients (n=300) treated in Thailand in 2015-2017. The dosage, adverse events (AEs) caused by local anesthesia, and treatment efficacy were examined. Articaine, which is safe for patients with liver impairments due to its unique metabolism, has not been thoroughly tested in Japan for doses above 5.1 mL. Eighty of the present patients had undergone root canal treatment (RCT), 71 underwent tooth extraction, and 149 underwent implant-related surgery. More than three articaine cartrid

Ophthalmologic complications after intraoral local anesthesia: case report and review of literature.

Intraoral administration of local anesthetics is one of the most common dental procedures. Ophthalmologic complications can occur after maxillary as well as mandibular local anesthetic injections and may be underreported and sometimes misinterpreted. A review of the literature from the years 1936-2011 shows 131 cases with this type of complication. This case report presents a patient with right lateral rectus muscle palsy and blurred vision after bimaxillary anesthesia. Signs, symptoms, and pathophysiologic hypotheses of these complications are presented.
