A case report on the use of 755-nm alexandrite picosecond laser in the treatment of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in the nose.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), a common sequela of acute or chronic cutaneous inflammation, is an acquired pigmentary disorder. The main treatments for PIH, such as topical agents, photoprotection, and chemical peeling, demonstrated different efficacies with inconsistent outcomes. Here, we reported a case of nasal PIH treated using a 755-nm alexandrite picosecond laser. The patient (female, aged 36 years) presented with a brown macula on the left side of the nasal dorsum 2 years ago, received treatment, and was followed up in the Plastic Surgery Department of Beijing hospital.

A Topical Depigmentation Program Against Hyperpigmentation Enhances the Benefits of Previously Performed Chemical Peeling Procedures of the Face.

Chemical peeling can reduce skin hyperpigmentation; however, once exhausted its thinning action, the depigmentation process does not continue further. We carried out a monocentric, prospective, noncontrolled study aimed at the evaluation of the efficacy, safety, ease of use, pleasantness, and tolerability of a depigmentation topical treatment program in women submitted to a previous chemical peeling. The topical treatment has been administered daily for 30 days to 16 women submitted to a chemical peeling containing a fixed-dose combination of salicylic acid, pyruvic acid, and retinoic acid wit

Management of hyperpigmentation in darker racial ethnic groups.

Dyschromias, in particular hyperpigmentation, are major issues of concern for people of color. Pigmentary disorders such as melasma and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) can cause psychological and emotional distress and can pose a negative impact on a person's health-related quality of life. The precise etiology of these conditions is unknown. Therapies for melasma and PIH target various points during the cycle of melanin production and degradation. Therapies for these conditions include topical agents and resurfacing procedures. Hydroquinone remains the gold standard of topical agents

Management of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in skin of color: A short review.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a common cosmetic complaint affecting patient quality of life. PIH has been proven to disproportionately affect skin of color. While several treatment options exist, special consideration must be given when managing PIH in patients of color, as topical treatments and aesthetic procedures, such as chemical peels and lasers, may either exacerbate or prove ineffective against PIH.
