Nine glycosides of patuletin, 6-methoxykaempferol and spinacetin from Good King Henry (Chenopodium bonus-henricus L.) were investigated for neuroprotective, anti-α-glucosidase and lipase activities. All tested flavonoids (100 µM) showed statistically significant neuroprotective activities on isolated rat brain synaptosomes using 6-hydroxydopamine in vitro model. They preserved synaptosome viability as well as the reduced glutathione level. 6-Methoxykaempferol glycoside 9 possessed the most prominent neuroprotective and antioxidant effects, within the same range as silibinin (100 µM). Anti-α-gl

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Chenopodium quinoa Willd. (Quinoa) is a nutrient-dense pseudocereal with potential therapeutic benefits for metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus. However, the safety and efficacy of varying concentrations of dietary quinoa on metabolic and histological parameters in diabetic and non-diabetic models remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effects of different quinoa supplementation levels (0%, 20%, 40%, and 80%) on glycemic control, lipid metabolism, hepatic and renal function, hematological indices, and organ histopathology in normal an

In the present work, we have investigated the polyphenolic composition of Chenopodium botrys from Bulgaria. The polyphenols were fractionated with solvents of varying polarity (n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol). The fractions were analyzed by HPLC-PDA and UHPLC-MS. The ethyl acetate fraction contained mono- and di-glycosides of quercetin, di-glycosides of kaempferol, and isorhamnetin and monoglycosides of hispidulin and jaceosidine. We found quercetin triglycosides in the butanol fraction. The ethyl acetate and butanol fractions contained 168.82 mg/g Extr and 67.21 mg/g Extr

Due to many uses of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) in various industries, the release of these particles in the environment and their effects on living organisms is inevitable. In this study, the role of salicylic acid (SA) pretreatments in modulating the toxicity of ZnO NPs was investigated using a hydroponic system. After pretreatment with different concentrations of SA (0, 25, 75, and 150 μM), Chenopodium murale plants were exposed to ZnO NPs (50 mg L-1). The results showed that exogenous SA increased the length, weight, chlorophyll, proline, starch, and soluble sugars in the plants. Be

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Folk medicine reports have described the use of Chenopodium ambrosioides as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anthelmintic herb. These effects, including its activity against intestinal worms, are already scientifically observed. However, the immunological mechanisms of this species in the treatment of Schistosoma mansoni infection are unknown.
AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the immunological and anti-Schistosoma mansoni effects of a crude Chenopodium ambrosioides hydro-alcoholic extract (HCE).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: For the in vitro analysis, cercariae and

Quinoa, a resilient crop adapted to marginal environments, offers a promising alternative under water-limited conditions. To gain new insights into its drought tolerance, we combined physiological analyses with quantitative proteomics under progressive drought (1-2 weeks) and subsequent recovery (2 weeks). Drought stress induced significant reductions in biomass (56%) and relative water content (46%) after two weeks, with leaf osmotic potential decreasing by up to 48%. However, plants exhibited strong recovery in these parameters upon rehydration. Proteomic analysis identified 114 differential

The 23-kDa nuclear-encoded heat-shock protein (HSP) of Chenopodium rubrum L. is regulated by light at the posttranslational level. Higher light intensities are more effective in inducing the accumulation of the mature protein under heat-shock conditions. Based on this and other properties the protein was considered to belong to the group of small chloroplastic HSPs. However, we have now obtained the following evidence that this 23-kDa HSP is localized in the mitochondria: (i) Immunogold-labelled protein was almost exclusively restricted to the mitochondria in electron microscope thin sections.

OBJECTIVES: Mitochondrion is an organelle involved in cellular energy generation and cell death. The mitochondrial permeability transition (mPT) pore plays a crucial role in the execution of mitochondrial-dependent cell death. Several medicinal plants evoke their therapeutic potential against tumor and cancer by instigating mitochondrial-dependent cell death. This research consequently explored the effect of chloroform fraction of Chenopodium ambrosioides (CFCA) on mitochondrial-dependent cell death via mPT pore.
METHODOLOGY: Rats were equally assigned into four groups; A (control), B (50), C

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common and highly aggressive tumor in the world. Although immunotherapy, surgical resection, targeted therapy and HCC transplantation could improve the prognosis for HCC patients, the tumor recurrence rate of the tumor remains high due to its insidious and invasive nature. Therefore, the development of new HCC therapeutic agents has become particularly important. Quinoa is abundant in bioactive peptides, proteins, and other functional ingredients that confer various health benefits to humans. Quinoa bran, the outer seed coat of quinoa, like quinoa, ha

Chenopodium ambrosioides is abundantly available in Malakand region. As constituents and concentrations of essential oils vary based on its geographical location, we carried our current study to extract and evaluate its possible relaxant activity in rabbits' jejunum and anti-leishmanial activity against promastigotes of Leishmania tropica. The essential oil was obtained from aerial fresh parts through steam distillation followed by GC/MS analysis. Antispasmodic activity was performed on spontaneous and KCl induced contractions. Curves for calcium concentration response (CCRCs) were prepared wi

BACKGROUND: Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), a globally significant perennial leguminous forage crop, is widely cultivated in Inner Mongolia. Problematic weeds present a significant challenge to alfalfa production during the seedling stage, especially redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) and common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.). However, limited information is available on pre-emergence herbicides effective against both redroot pigweed and common lambsquarters in alfalfa fields during the establishment phase in Inner Mongolia.
RESULTS: We examined the effects of 12 pre-emergence he

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) is classified as one of the pseudo-cereal grains rich in both macronutrients and micronutrients. This study tracks changes in the polyphenol composition of red quinoa (RQ) and yellow quinoa (YQ) seeds during germination. The antioxidant bioactivity of raw and germinated seed was also determined in vitro. Phenolic acids and their derivatives and flavonoids were identified by using HPLC-DAD and quantified after 0, 3, and 6 days of germination. Subsequently, the extracts of 6-day-old quinoa sprouts were prepared to biologically evaluate their functional properties agai

UDA-245 is a Chenopodium-based natural insecticide. Forty-eight hours after treatment with this compound, Orius insidiosus (Say) and Aphidius colemani Viereck showed slight contact toxicity at 5 g AI liter(-1). There was no residual toxicity to A colemani. These two beneficials are currently used in commercial flower and vegetable greenhouses for the management of thrips, spider mites, aphids and small caterpillars. In contrast, abamectin and insecticidal soap were toxic by contact to both species. UDA-245 did not reduce the number of eggs laid by treated O insidiosus. The eclosion of these eg
