Choroid plexus tumours are rare epithelial neoplasms arising from the choroid plexus, accounting for approximately 0.2% of all central nervous system tumours but up to 20% of brain tumours diagnosed during the first year of life. CPTs exhibit marked clinical and biological heterogeneity and are classified into three entities according to the World Health Organization (WHO): choroid plexus papilloma (CPP, WHO grade 1), atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP, WHO grade 2) and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC, WHO grade 3). Although CPP is a benign tumour with excellent prognosis following complete

Choroid plexus carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm of the central nervous system most commonly found in the pediatric population. It is associated with a dismal prognosis, especially if incompletely resected. Accurate histopathologic diagnosis is imperative, and this neoplasm should always be included in the differential diagnosis of a papillary intraventricular tumor. Histopathologic features include blurring of papillary architecture, layers of neoplastic choroid plexus epithelial cells with pleomorphic nuclei, increased nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio, increased mitotic activity, areas of necros

The MRI appearance of intraventricular neoplasms is often nonspecific, however knowledge of patient age and tumor location facilitates the formulation of a differential diagnosis. Imaging and pertinent clinical features of the following intraventricular neoplasms are reviewed: ependymoma, subependymoma, central neurocytoma, subependymal giant cell tumor, choroid plexus tumors, medulloblastoma, meningioma, chordoid glioma, rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor, central nervous system lymphoma, and metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus carcinoma is an intraventricular neoplasm originating from the choroid plexus epithelium and is of rare occurrence in adults. However, owing to the low prevalence of choroid plexus carcinoma, there is very limited information about the disease entity and treatment. Here we report a rare case of choroid plexus carcinoma in an adult patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 46-year-old South Korean (East Asian) male presented with low back pain, headache, and diplopia. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated enhancing mass lesion in the left trigone, cerebellar with leptomeningea

Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), a low incidence central nervous system (CNS) tumor, typically develops as an intraventricular neoplasm arising from the epithelium of the choroid plexus. Infratentorial CPP is predominantly clustered in adults with roughly 70% in the fourth ventricle, while supratentorial CPP commonly found in the lateral ventricles, is the most frequent location in children. The clinical and imaging features of CPP are not typical and may induce the misdiagnosis as other types of primary brain tumors. In this paper, we described a fourth-ventricular CPP that was misdiagnosed as

Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is a benign but rare central nervous system (CNS) neoplasm of the choroid plexus. The onset of symptoms is usually in the first decade and may occur at birth (i.e., congenital). It accounts for 0.4-0.6% of all brain tumors. Usually seen in patients who are young children. The object of this clinical case to highlight early surgical intervention, intensive and multidisciplinary care, and pharmaceutical prescriptions can enhance the patient's condition and quality of life. We herein report a rare presentation of CPP in a 6-year-old Sudanese female child with seizur

Although primary radical removal is the procedure of choice in the treatment of choroid plexus papillomas, the age of the child, the size and/or location of the tumor and an above average surgical risk can make advisable the use of a first stage shunt operation, with section of the tentorium if there are signs of upwards tentorial herniation. The present two observations clearly demonstrate that radiotherapy shrinks the vascular stroma of these tumors, thus reducing its size and vascularity making possible the postponement of radical surgery and greatly simplifying the final radical removal of

Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) are rare and highly vascularized neoplasms that have three histologically confirmed diagnoses, including choroid plexus papilloma, atypical choroid plexus papilloma, and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). This study aimed to determine the epidemiology and survival of patients with CPTs and develop a nomogram to quantify the prognosis of the patients with CPT. Data of 808 patients who were diagnosed as CPT between 2000 and 2020 was obtained from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the distribution and tumor-r

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus papillomas are rare, accounting for less than 1% of all intracranial tumours in adults. However, they are relatively more common in childhood and constitute 1.5 to 4% of intracranial tumours. They are most often located in the lateral ventricle, followed by the fourth and third ventricles and, rarely, in the cerebellopontine angle. Bilateral lateral ventricle choroid plexus papilloma is very rare and only a few cases has been reported.

Oncocytic transformation is an infrequent event within the central nervous system and is limited to neoplasms of the choroid plexus, meninges, and pituitary gland. Oncocytic modifications in choroid plexus tumors seem to occur predominantly in adult patients and in the fourth ventricle and do not seem to reflect any particular biological behavior. Meningiomas showing oncocytic differentiation have been recently described and this variant probably behaves more aggressively. Pituitary oncocytomas are regarded as a subtype of null cell adenomas. Oncocytic tumors have a significantly higher risk o

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare; they comprise less than 1% of all intracranial tumors. In children, most of these neoplasms arise in the lateral ventricle while in adults they are primarily located in the fourth ventricle. We report 3 children with choroid plexus papilloma in the fourth ventricle; they were one 5-month-old girl and 2 boys aged 8-and 15-years. The baby girl presented with macrocephaly and signs of raised intracranial pressure, the 2 boys exhibited cerebellar signs. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) the tumors were well-enhanced with a cauliflower-like contour and hydrocep

INTRODUCTION: Choroid Plexus Carcinomas (CPC) are rare malignant brain neoplasms of choroid plexus epithelium, with a tendency to occur in infants and children, especially those who are under two years of age. The Main symptoms of CPC include nausea, vomiting, headache, irritability, blurred vision, and seizures. Few studies discuss the therapeutic methods to treat this tumor. However, most of these studies confirmed the poor prognosis of it.

A 15-year-old female goat suddenly developed right-sided head tilting with anorexia and depression. Post-mortem examination of the brain revealed a large, unilateral, well-demarcated, intraventricular neoplasm which was diagnosed as a choroid plexus carcinoma. The neoplasm, which occupied about 75% of the left lateral ventricle, led to unilateral obstructive hydrocephalus and invaded the white and grey matter of the left piriform lobe, with focal subarachnoid spread and meningeal implantation. Histopathological examination revealed loss of branching papillary architecture, invasive growth, a h

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms accounting for only 0.3-0.6% of all brain tumors in adults and 2-5% in children. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification describes three histological grades: grade I is choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), grade II is atypical papilloma, and grade III is the malignant form of carcinoma. In adults, CPTs rarely have a supratentorial localization.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Here we report a very rare case of an intraparenchymal parietal CPP with a rapid histological transition from grade I to grade III WHO in a 67-year-old man, in <7 month

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare intracranial neoplasms that are generally benign in nature. They are seen in both children and adults and have a male preponderance. Magnetic resonance imaging, a noninvasive diagnostic tool, demonstrated the intraventricular location and the surrounding anatomy with striking clarity, more effectively than angiography and computed tomography scanning.

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare intracranial neoplasms, representing <1% of all brain tumors, yet they represent 20% of first-year pediatric brain tumors. Although these tumors have been linked to TP53 germline mutations in the context of Li-Fraumeni syndrome, their somatic driver alterations remain poorly understood. In this study, we report two cases of lateral ventricle tumors: 3-yr-old male diagnosed with an atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP), and a 6-mo-old female diagnosed with a choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). We performed whole-exome sequencing of paired blood and tumor tis

The report documents a silent, oncocytic, ACTH-producing ectopic anterior pituitary tumour in a 6-year-old boy. The invasive intrahemispheric neoplasm had no connection with the pituitary gland, the sella turcica or the sphenoid sinuses. The apparent similarities existing between this tumour, some choroid plexus carcinomas and steroid-producing neoplasms are discussed.

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare brain neoplasms, primarily observed in children, and typically manifest with symptoms indicative of heightened intracranial pressure and cerebral irritation. In addition, the tumor's localization varies with the patient's age, and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches predominantly rely on imaging findings and surgical interventions, with histopathological examination being essential for confirmation. This study outlines a unique instance of choroid plexus papilloma in a 30-year-old female, who presented with severe headache and vomiting, subsequently reveali
