Comparative genomic analysis of Chryseobacterium species: deep insights into plant-growth-promoting and halotolerant capacities.

Members of the genus Chryseobacterium have attracted great interest as beneficial bacteria that can promote plant growth and biocontrol. Given the recent risks of climate change, it is important to develop tolerance strategies for efficient applications of plant-beneficial bacteria in saline environments. However, the genetic determinants of plant-growth-promoting and halotolerance effects in Chryseobacterium have not yet been investigated at the genomic level. Here, a comparative genomic analysis was conducted with seven Chryseobacterium species. Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses reveale

Characterization of CIA-1, an Ambler class A extended-spectrum β-lactamase from Chryseobacterium indologenes.

An Ambler class A β-lactamase gene, bla(CIA-1), was cloned from the reference strain Chryseobacterium indologenes ATCC 29897 and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21. The bla(CIA-1) gene encodes a novel extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) that shared 68% and 60% identities with the CGA-1 and CME-1 β-lactamases, respectively. bla(CIA-1)-like genes were detected from clinical isolates. In addition to the metallo-β-lactamase IND of Ambler class B, C. indologenes has a class A ESBL gene, bla(CIA-1), located on the chromosome.

Bacterial Extracellular Vesicles (BEVs) Derived from Chryseobacterium Inhibit Dengue Virus Infection by Disrupting Its Structural Integrity.

Dengue virus (DENV) infection poses a significant global health threat, and current prevention and treatment strategies are limited by challenges of lacking effective mosquito control measures and antibody-dependent enhancement. This study reports that bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) secreted by a soil bacterium Chryseobacterium aquifrigidense M24 exhibit potent anti-DENV activity by triggering the structural disintegration of DENV particles prior to cellular entry in a dose-dependent manner. Mechanistic investigations revealed that BEVs interact with the viral envelope, inducing prema

Nutrient and organic pollutants removal in synthetic wastewater by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Chryseobacterium sp./biofilter systems.

Nutrient and organic pollution raise serious problems for aquatic ecosystems through the accumulation of organic carbon, the reduction of light penetration, and the loss of submerged aquatic vegetation. The over-enrichment of water with nitrogen and phosphorus leads to an imbalance in nutrient ratios, creating favorable conditions for toxic algal blooms, formation of oxygen-depleted water, etc. Thus, developing new technological solutions to reduce their amount is imperative. The present study investigates the capacity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Chryseobacterium sp. bacterial strains to for

Molecular and biochemical characterization of Ambler class A extended-spectrum beta-lactamase CGA-1 from Chryseobacterium gleum.

Antibiotic susceptibility testing by disk diffusion of a Chryseobacterium gleum isolate, strain CIP 103039, showed a typical synergy image between clavulanic acid and expanded-spectrum cephalosporins. Shotgun cloning gave a recombinant plasmid in Escherichia coli that produced a beta-lactamase, CGA-1, with a pI value of 8.9 that conferred resistance to most penicillins (except ureidopenicillins) and narrow-spectrum cephalosporins and an intermediate susceptibility to expanded-spectrum cephalosporins and aztreonam. The CGA-1 amino acid sequence shared only 60% amino acid identity with CME-1 and
