Remissions of mycosis fungoides induced by nitrogen mustard (HN2). Topical treatment and hydration of tumours and plaques with HN2. Topical desensitization to HN2. A clinical and histopathological controlled study.

In this study 12 patients with mycosis fungoides were treated with whole body topical application of HN2. In addition 4 of these patients had gauzes moistened with the same HN2 solution placed upon plaques and tumours. 4 patients developed in allergic contact dermatitis, and this complication was overcome by percutaneous desensitizing in 3 of them. After starting hydration of plaques and tumours with HN2, the average time to obtain complete clinical remission was shorted from 4.4 to 2.5 months. A little later at the optimal histologic response, there was no or almost no cellular infiltration i

Topical aminolaevulinic acid-photodynamic therapy for the treatment of acne vulgaris: a study of clinical efficacy and mechanism of action.

BACKGROUND: Acne affects 83-95% of 16-year-olds of both sexes, and many seek help from a clinician. Emerging problems with conventional acne treatments, specifically antibiotic resistance of Propionibacterium acnes and fears over the safety and tolerance of oral isotretinoin, create a demand for novel treatment modalities in acne. OBJECTIVES: To study the efficacy of aminolaevulinic acid-photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) in the treatment of acne and to identify the mode of action, looking specifically at the effects on surface numbers of P. acnes and on sebum excretion. METHODS: Ten patients (n

Innovative Compounded Topical Powder for Post-Digital Amputation Care: A Clinical Case Study in Wound Healing.

Diabetes is a leading global cause of mortality and disability, with foot complications often resulting in amputation. Digital (toe) amputations are particularly common due to neuropathy, ischemia, and infection, and are frequently followed by delayed healing. This case describes a 66-year-old diabetic male who underwent multiple toe amputations on his right foot. Despite successful surgery, wound healing was slow. A compounded topical powder was prescribed, containing phenytoin, piperacillin, tazobactam, misoprostol, aloe vera, and beta glucan in a novel powder-to-hydrogel, film-forming topic

Clinical study on the efficacy and tolerability of a topical regenerative treatment in patients with telogen effluvium and mild androgenetic alopecia.

Hair loss may change the quality of life since modern society considers hair an essential element in beauty definition. The most common causes of hair loss are androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and telogen effluvium (TE). AGA requires a lifetime use of minoxidil or finasteride (and sometimes they lose efficacy over the years), whereas TE has no standardized therapy available. Our study focuses on a novel topical regenerative preparation that, by mimicking autologous PRP, can safely and efficiently improve hair loss in patients affected by TE and AGA.

A topical desiccant agent in association with ultrasonic debridement in the initial treatment of chronic periodontitis: a clinical and microbiological study.

Effective sub-gingival debridement is crucial to prevent serious systemic infections in hospitalized patients. Lack of compliance and the impracticality of repeated treatment in a short span of time are identified barriers to the performance of full mouth scaling and root planing (SRP). The aim of this randomized study was to evaluate the clinical and microbiological effects of the adjunctive administration of a locally delivered desiccant liquid with molecular hygroscopic properties (HYBENX® Oral Tissue Decontaminant™; HBX) in association with sub-gingival ultrasonic debridement (UD) in a hos

Topical penetration of commercial salicylate esters and salts using human isolated skin and clinical microdialysis studies.

AIMS: The penetration of active ingredients from topically applied anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical products into tissues below the skin is the basis of their therapeutic efficacy. There is still controversy as to whether these agents are capable of direct penetration by diffusion through the tissues or whether redistribution in the systemic circulation is responsible for their tissue deposition below the application site. METHODS: The extent of direct penetration of salicylate from commercial ester and salt formulations into the dermal and subcutaneous tissue of human volunteers was determin

Skin-on-Chip and clinical evaluation of the soothing potential of a topical natural treatment for atopic-prone skin: An exploratory study.

Itch is the most common symptom of various dermatological disorders and can negatively impact patients' quality of life, especially when linked to chronic conditions such as dry skin and atopic dermatitis. While the specific mechanism of pruritus remains unclear, a decline in skin barrier function and release of key mediators of itch signaling are believed to play a pivotal role in itch stimulus. While topical corticosteroids are widely used to alleviate pruritus by suppressing inflammation, long-term use is limited by side effects, including skin atrophy. This study investigates the soothing

Six-month open-label clinical study of a novel topical solution for mild distal lateral subungual onychomycosis.

Systemic antifungals such as terbinafine and itraconazole are often limited by drug interactions and side effects in the treatment of onychomycosis. We tested a new topical solution to address the clinical need for safer and more effective topical therapies. The solution (containing urea, lactic acid, ethoxydiglycol, decylene glycol, and polyquaternium-7) was applied twice daily for six months in a single-arm, open-label trial, enrolling 50 adult subjects with clinically diagnosed distal lateral subungual onychomycosis. Outcomes included a blinded investigator assessment, mycological evaluatio
