BACKGROUND: Unstable posterior pelvic ring fractures and dislocations are uncommon but potentially life-threatening injuries in children. Early definitive management reduces risk of immediate complications as well as chronic pain and gait dysfunction. Conventional operative therapy carries substantial risk of extensive blood loss and iatrogenic neurological and vascular injury. Minimally invasive image-guided intervention may further reduce immediate risk and improve long-term outcome.
OBJECTIVE: To describe CT-guided closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) and review outcomes of unstab

18 patients with Bennett's fracture were evaluated after a mean follow-up period of 10.7 years. Treatment consisted of closed reduction and K-wire fixation in seven cases and open reduction with osteosynthesis in 11 cases. Overall, symptoms were few and restricted mobility of the thumb could not be demonstrated. The strength of the affected hand was decreased in all patients regardless of the type of treatment. Osteoarthritis was found to correlate with the quality of reduction of the fracture, but had developed in almost all cases even after exact reduction. Exact reduction, either by the ope

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are common, with over 14,000 annual cases in Denmark. Most cases are treated non-surgically and may require closed reduction prior to casting. National guidelines for anaesthesia and reduction technique for closed reduction of DRFs are lacking, impacting clinical practices and potentially optimal care. This survey aimed to describe Danish clinical practice for initial treatment and closed reduction of DRFs.
METHODS: Between January and April 2025, the survey was distributed online to the 23 physicians responsible for all 44 emergency departments an

Nasal complex injuries are the most common facial fracture encountered in the trauma population. Multiple surgical techniques for treatment of these fractures have been described with varying results. The goal of this study was to review the efficacy of closed reduction of nasal and septal fractures using a technique based upon several key concepts. We reviewed the records of patients who had undergone isolated nasal and/or septal fractures with closed reduction at our institution between January 2013 and November 2021. Inclusion criteria consisted of preoperative CT imaging, surgical treatmen

BACKGROUND: Sedated, closed reduction of a displaced distal radial fracture followed by cast immobilization is indicated in cases of unacceptable alignment on post-splint imaging. The aim of this procedure is to obtain acceptable reduction and cast immobilization for fracture-healing.
DESCRIPTION: The patient is positioned supine with the injured arm on the image intensifier. Adequate sedation is achieved with conscious sedation, general anesthesia, or regional anesthesia (hematoma block). The radial or ulnar translation is corrected with in-line traction. The wrist is typically hyperdorsifle

Patellar fractures account for approximately 1% of all human body fractures. This study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes of open reduction and closed reduction for patellar fractures. This retrospective study included 62 patients (63 cases) who underwent surgical treatment of patellar fractures from 2008 to 2013. Of the 63 cases, open and closed reductions were performed in 42 and 21 cases, respectively. Plain radiography was used to assess fracture healing. Comminuted patellar fracture was the most common fracture type in both groups. Tension band wiring and cannulated screw fixation we

BACKGROUND: The zygomatic bone constitutes the prominence of the cheek. Fractures of the zygomatic bone are the second most treatment of zygomatic bone fractures and can be examined under two headings, open and closed reductions. This paper describes a new technique in the closed reduction of tripod fractures using a towel clip.
METHODS: Seventeen consecutive patients (three females, 14 males) with a mean age of 35.5 years (range = 18-66 years) with zygomatic tripod fracture were treated using the towel clip technique between December 2011 and February 2014.
RESULTS: Patients were assessed i

INTRODUCTION: Our goal in this study was to propose an alternative closed reduction method to avoid open reduction in the management of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures. A temporary Kirschner wire is inserted to the proximal part of the humerus to be used as a joystick to have a better control of the proximal fragment.
PATIENTS: Twenty-three patients with closed Gartland type III extension fractures were operated between 2003 and 2007. Mean age of the patients was 6.7 (4-10) years.
METHOD: Uninjured and fractured elbow's Bauman angles, lateral condylar angles, the carrying angles an

BACKGROUND: Fracture of the distal radius is a common clinical problem, particularly in older white women with osteoporosis. Displaced fractures are usually reduced using closed reduction methods, which are non-surgical and generally comprise traction and manipulation, and the resulting position stabilised by external means, typically plaster cast immobilisation.
OBJECTIVES: To examine the evidence for the relative effectiveness of different methods of closed reduction for displaced fractures of the distal radius in adults.
SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Injuries G

The anatomical and functional outcome and complications after closed reduction and external fixation of unstable fractures of the distal radius were reviewed in 29 patients. The fractures were reduced by longitudinal traction and closed manipulation under fluoroscopic control, and the reduced position was retained by a standard half-frame Hoffmann external fixator for six to eight weeks. The mean follow-up time was four (3-7) years. The reduction failed in three patients after too early removal of the fixator (three to five weeks). For the rest of the patients the dorsal angulation, the radial

BACKGROUND/AIM: Open surgical reduction/fixation of thoracolumbar fractures results in significant soft-tissue trauma and related complications. Minimally-invasive technical developments could deliver similar radiological outcomes, while avoiding the related complications. We evaluated radiological and perioperative outcomes in thoracolumbar fractures by using a novel minimally-invasive device.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twenty-six patients with 29 thoracolumbar fractures using the NForce device were analyzed. Postoperative reduction and alignment were assessed by radiographic measurement of the l

Pediatric and adolescent forearm fractures account for nearly 40% of all fractures in childhood. The incidence of these fractures has increased over the past decade with a 10-fold increase in surgical intervention. A thorough physical examination of the upper extremity, with plain radiographs of the forearm, should be obtained to make the diagnosis. The primary modality of management for closed both-bone forearm fractures is a closed reduction if needed and long arm immobilization. Patients should be followed up weekly, for at least 3 weeks, to ensure maintenance of fracture alignment. Failure
