Combined modality therapy for adults with small noncleaved cell lymphoma (Burkitt's and non-Burkitt's types).

Between June 1979 and June 1984 18 adult patients with small noncleaved cell lymphoma (SNCL) (diffuse undifferentiated lymphoma, Burkitt's and non-Burkitt's types of the Rappaport classification) were treated with high-dose cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone, midcycle high-dose methotrexate, and intrathecal methotrexate. Early in the course of treatment, hyperfractionated radiotherapy (125 cGy, every two days, for 1,500 to 2,250 centigray [cGy]) was administered to unresected masses greater than 10 cm in their greatest dimension. Chemotherapy was administered every 21 days

Chlorella-based bioactive oxygen generator for sustained tumor hypoxia alleviation and combined-modality tumor therapy.

The hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME) promotes tumor progression and therapeutic resistance primarily through the activation of hypoxia-inducible factor-α (HIF-α). However, current oxygen-sensitizing strategies are hindered by low delivery efficiency, transient efficacy, and severe adverse effects. In this study, we developed a composite system (C@W) comprising Chlorella pyrenoidosa (CHL) and tungsten disulfide (WS₂). This platform synergistically integrates the photosynthetic oxygen generation capacity of CHL with the photocatalytic functionality of WS₂, enabling multimodal antitumor effic

Mediastinal large cell lymphoma. An uncommon subset of adult lymphoma curable with combined modality therapy.

Thirty adults with large cell lymphoma predominantly localized to the mediastinum diagnosed at the Massachusetts General Hospital between 1976 and 1985 were identified. The median age of the 20 females and 10 males was 34 years. All but one presented with symptoms due to an enlarging mediastinal mass, which was localized in 22 patients (73%) and exceeded 10 cm in maximal diameter in 65%. Superior vena cava syndrome and large pleural and pericardial effusions were common. Employing CHOP chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone) and consolidation radiation therapy in

[Combined Modality Therapy for HER2-Positive Progressive Stomach Cancer Metastasis Achieving Treatment Response-A Case Report].

The patient was a 73-year-old man whose chief complaint was a 1-month history of anorexia and weight loss. Pyloric stenosis due to a circumferential type 2 lesion was detected on the pylorus ring from the gastric angle. Close inspection revealed a diagnosis of progressive stomach cancer cT3N+M0, stage Ⅲ. We judged that perioperative radical excision would be impossible and performed gastrojejunal bypass surgery. Postoperatively, the patient was treated with 2 courses of SOX plus trastuzumab and 7 courses of S-1. PR was identified, and a distal-side gastrectomy plus D2 lymph node dissection wer

Advanced esophagogastric junction cancer with brain, bone and gastric intramural metastases responding to combined modality therapy.

A 63-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in March 2017 with dysphagia and right homonymous hemianopsia. We diagnosed him with esophagogastric junction cancer (adenocarcinoma) with metastases to the cerebral occipital lobe, bone, and lymph nodes. After one cycle of 5FU + cisplatin (FP), the brain metastasis was resected because of the hemiplegic symptoms he developed. Histology of the resected tissue showed no viable tumor cells. After three cycles of FP, the primary lesion and metastases were resolved. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a scar at the primary site. This was conside

[A case of long-term survivor after combined modality therapy for brain metastasis of bladder carcinoma].

A 75-year-old man with advanced bladder cancer (cT4N1M0) received three courses of systemic chemotherapy with Methotrexate, Epirubicin and Nedaplatin (MEN). His metastatic lymph node completely disappeared. We performed total cystectomy. Three months after the surgery, he complained of neck pain and nausea. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 3 cm tumor in his right cerebella and a 5 mm tumor in left parietal lobe. He underwent surgical resection of the right cerebellar tumor and a gamma knife therapy for the left parietal tumor. Pathological diagnosis was metastatic urothelial c

Endoscopic Hemostatic Treatment for Acute Gastrointestinal Bleeding by Combined Modality Therapy with PuraStat and Endoscopic Hemoclips.

Acute gastrointestinal bleeding (AGIB) is a common condition leading to hospitalization and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Various endoscopic treatments have been reported for AGIB, while its endoscopic hemostasis treatment by combined modality with PuraStat and endoscopic hemoclips remains less well documented. We report 6 cases of AGIB, i.e., 5 cases of ulcer bleeding and 1 case of ruptured gastric varices in 3 males and 3 females aged 49-97 years (mean age, 77 years), 2 and 1 of whom had been on antithrombotic drugs and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, respecti

[A Case of Combined Modality Therapy for Progressive Esophagus Cancer with Perforation Due to Preoperative Chemotherapy].

A nearby doctor sensed incongruity in deglutition as a chief complaint from a 56-year-old man. A middle intrathoracic esophagus cancer was subsequently diagnosed and referred to our department. We started FP therapy based on the preoperative chemotherapy guidelines, but perforation of esophageal cancer developed. We conducted chest drainage, and attempted to improve the patient's overall status with antibiotic medical treatment and hyperalimentation; single-stage operations were performed. As tumor invaded the left pleura, surgery occurred for R2 resection of the left lung. Subsequently, we st

Prognostic factors and patterns of failure in advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma treated with combined modality therapy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The role of irradiation to non-bulky and bulky sites of disease in advanced stage Hodgkin lymphoma is controversial. We aimed to review the long-term outcomes of patients treated with combined modality therapy to clarify the role of consolidative radiotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with stage III or IV Hodgkin lymphoma treated with Stanford V chemotherapy and consolidative radiotherapy to initial sites of disease ≥5 cm were analyzed retrospectively to determine patient outcomes, patterns of failure, and factors associated with treatment failure. RESULTS: A t

A New Treatment Modality for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Combined Photothermal and Photodynamic Therapy Using Cu7.2 S4 Nanoparticles.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a worldwide inflammatory disease that seriously threatens human health and needs more effective treatment approaches. Near infrared (NIR) light can efficiently penetrate inflamed joints affected by RA, so phototherapy, including photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), may provide new opportunities. In this work, the unique Cu7.2 S4 nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared for RA treatment enlightened by the fact that copper (Cu)-based nanomaterials can simultaneously serve as PTT agents and photosensitizers (for PDT). Meanwhile, Cu can promote ostogenesi
