Patient registries: useful tools for clinical research in myasthenia gravis.

Clinical registries may facilitate research on myasthenia gravis (MG) in several ways: as a source of demographic, clinical, biological, and immunological data on large numbers of patients with this rare disease; as a source of referrals for clinical trials; and by allowing rapid identification of MG patients with specific features. Physician-derived registries have the added advantage of incorporating diagnostic and treatment data that may allow comparison of outcomes from different therapeutic approaches, which can be supplemented with patient self-reported data. We report the demographic an

Trajectories in glycated hemoglobin and body mass index in children and adolescents with diabetes using the common data model.

We evaluated trajectories of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and body mass index z-scores (BMIz) for 5 years after diagnosis among Korean children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) or type 2 diabetes (T2D) using the common data model. From the de-identified database of three hospitals, 889 patients < 15 years of age diagnosed with T1D or T2D (393 boys, 664 T1D patients) were enrolled. Diagnosis was defined as first exposure to antidiabetic drug at each center. Compared with T2D patients, T1D patients had lower BMIz at diagnosis (- 0.4 ± 1.2 vs. 1.5 ± 1.4, p < 0.001) and 3 months (-

Advancing the Oncology Data Paradigm: Multisite Expansion of Structured Cancer Data Capture at the Point of Care.

PURPOSE: Incorporation of structured data elements within the electronic health record generates real-time data for many potential uses. However, this requires a change in documentation practices, which may increase documentation effort. The best strategies to support structured documentation interventions have not been thoroughly investigated. Herein, we report the results of extending a data capture tool across multiple disease sites and practice locations. METHODS: A note-based data capture tool was developed to collect five data elements using minimum common oncology data elements languag

What determines quality in palliative sedation? A scoping review identifying elements contributing to palliative sedation quality.

BACKGROUND: Palliative sedation involves using sedatives to reduce consciousness until death. Though common in end-of-life care, it remains complex and controversial, with unclear quality parameters and limited guidance for improvement. A comprehensive overview of elements that reflect quality in palliative sedation is currently missing. AIM: To identify quality reflecting elements for palliative sedation reported in peer-reviewed, indexed and gray literature. DESIGN: Scoping review using Levac et al.'s methodological framework, including systematic searching, screening and narrative synthes

Development and validation of a minimum data set for total joint arthroplasty registries.

BACKGROUND: Total joint arthroplasties (TJAs), including total knee (TKA) and total hip (THA), are common treatments for end-stage arthritis, significantly improving patients' quality of life (QoL). Clinical TJA registries play a critical role in monitoring implant performance, revision surgeries, postoperative complications, and long-term outcomes and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). However, the lack of a standardized data collection framework limits data integration, interoperability, and comparison across healthcare systems and studies. This study aims to establish a minimum data set (MDS

The tissue microarray data exchange specification: a document type definition to validate and enhance XML data.

BACKGROUND: The Association for Pathology Informatics (API) Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) TMA Data Exchange Specification (TMA DES) proposed in April 2003 provides a community-based, open source tool for sharing tissue microarray (TMA) data in a common format. Each tissue core within an array has separate data including digital images; therefore an organized, common approach to produce, navigate and publish such data facilitates viewing, sharing and merging TMA data from different laboratories. The AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) is a HIV/AIDS tissue bank consortium sponsored by t

The GENIE Data Model: A Solid Tumor, Person-Centric Framework for Scalable, Harmonized Precision Oncology Data Collection.

UNLABELLED: Adequately powered analyses in precision oncology often require combining cohorts across institutions. However, integration is constrained by the least granular source and may become infeasible when data elements are too heterogeneous to harmonize and map to a common data model. This challenge is acute in multi-institutional precision oncology research, in which real-world evidence requires harmonized clinico-omic data integration. Existing models often lack sufficient treatment patterns, outcomes, and genomic data, limiting interoperability and scalability. To address these gaps,

Developing a Coordinated Registry Network for devices used for acute ischemic stroke intervention: basilar artery occlusion quality assessment pilot.

BACKGROUND: Real-world data can be helpful in evaluating endovascular therapy (EVT) in ischemic stroke care. We conducted a pilot study to aggregate data on basilar artery occlusion (BAO) EVT from existing registries in the USA. We evaluated the availability, completeness, quality, and consistency of common data elements (CDEs) across data sources. METHODS: We harmonized patient-level data from five registry data sources and assessed the availability, completeness (defined by the presence in at least four data sources), and consistency of CDEs. We assessed data quality based on seven pre-defi

Segmentally Duplicated Regulatory Elements Undergo Human-Specific Rewiring.

Gene regulatory innovation underlies many phenotypic transitions. Transposable elements are an established mechanism for creating families of cis-acting elements with shared sequence features and the potential to establish co-regulatory networks. To understand additional mechanisms by which co-regulatory networks form, we define families of noncoding elements based on sequence similarity and cell type-specific activity. We apply this analysis framework to the human telomere-to-telomere genome assembly and embryonic stem cell chromatin accessibility data. We identify segmental duplications as t
