Stressors, moderators and stress outcomes: findings from the All-Wales Community Mental Health Nurse Study.

The All-Wales Community Mental Health Nurse Stress Study was the largest study undertaken in the UK to date to investigate stress, burnout and coping amongst the CMHN workforce. The aim of the study was to examine the variety, frequency and severity of stressors, to describe coping strategies used to reduce work-based stress, and to determine stress outcomes. Questionnaires were sent out to 614 CMHNs from ten NHS Trusts throughout Wales. The response rate was 49% (n = 301). The measures used included the Maslach Human Services Survey, the CPN Stress Questionnaire, the Psychnurse Methods of Cop

Communication Strategies Within the Mental Health Context-The Evidence for Nurses, Midwives, and Social Workers. A Rapid Review.

Effective communication in mental health settings is central to compassionate, ethical, and person-centred care. For nurses, midwives, and social workers, communication underpins trust, assessment accuracy, and recovery-oriented practice. This rapid review explored evidence-based communication strategies used by these disciplines within adult mental health contexts. Following PRISMA-ScR and JBI methodology, 18 studies published between 2015 and 2025 were analysed. Study quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Assessment Tool. Three overarching themes emerged: professional mechanisms (refl

Provision of palliative and end-of-life care by community health nurses: A scoping review on the challenges and potential solutions.

BACKGROUND: The demand for home-based palliative care is increasing, driven by ageing populations and a rise in multiple long-term conditions. Community health nurses are pivotal to enabling people to be cared for and die at home, yet their contributions to palliative and end-of-life care remain under-recognised and poorly understood. Previous international reviews have focused on specific themes but in-depth synthesis of evidence from one national health system has not been undertaken. AIM: This scoping review aimed to identify, map and synthesise evidence within a single national health sys

Exploratory assessment: Nurse-led community health worker delivered HCV intervention for people experiencing homelessness.

BACKGROUND: Getting and maintaining Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) cure is challenging among people experiencing homelessness (PEH) as a result of critical social determinants of health such as unstable housing, mental health disorders, and drug and alcohol use. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this exploratory pilot study was to compare a registered nurse/community health worker (RN/CHW)-led HCV intervention tailored for PEH, "I am HCV Free," with a clinic-based standard of care (cbSOC) for treating HCV. Efficacy was measured by sustained virological response at 12 weeks after stopping antivirals (SVR12)

Mental health symptoms, spiritual well-being and meaning in life among older adults living in nursing homes and community dwellings.

BACKGROUND: Ageing is a process involving physical, social, psychological, spiritual and cultural changes. The elderly's personal characteristics may change, and the place where they live can lead to differences in their individual life expectations. Nursing home or community dwelling, where the elderly live can affect their psychological and spiritual well-being and their search for meaning in life. This study aimed to determine mental health symptoms, spiritual well-being and meaning in life among older adults living in nursing homes and community dwellings. METHODS: This cross-sectional st

The perspectives of homeless people using the services of a mobile health clinic in relation to their health needs: a qualitative study on community-based outreach nursing.

BACKGROUND: Significant social and health issues are associated with homelessness. Negative experiences with the healthcare system are also frequent and cause people experiencing homelessness to avoid health services. AIMS: The purpose of this study was to (1) explore participants' health needs concerning outreach nursing services and (2) describe the perceptions and preferences of people who access this form of community-based intervention. METHODS: We conducted a critical ethnography with semi-structured interviews of 12 people experiencing homelessness who receive the services of a nurse-

Transferability of nurse-led interventions for cardiovascular health across diverse nursing roles in primary and community settings: Practice implications and solutions from a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Although nurse-led interventions are increasingly recognised as effective in managing cardiovascular risk factors, a comprehensive synthesis is needed to support their widespread implementation across healthcare systems. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to synthesise evidence to answer key questions: 1) Why do some nurse-led care models in primary and community settings succeed while others do not? 2) Which specific components of nurse-led interventions impact clinical outcomes? 3) What concerns exist about transferring these interventions to real-world settings, and what are

House calls by community health workers and public health nurses to improve adherence to isoniazid monotherapy for latent tuberculosis infection: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Patient adherence to isoniazid (INH) monotherapy for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) has been suboptimal despite its proven efficacy. Various strategies have been studied to improve adherence, but all have been based at a clinic or treatment program. At the Santa Clara Valley Tuberculosis Clinic, it was our practice to refer a subset of high-risk LTBI patients to the Public Health Department for monthly follow-up at home instead of at the clinic. Our goal was to assess whether house calls by community health workers and public health nurses affected INH adherence or frequency

Using Innovation to Address Adolescent and Young Adult Health Disparities in Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Design of the Technology Enhanced Community Health Precision Nursing (TECH-PN) Trial.

New approaches to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) care among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) that optimize self-care and personalize treatment are warranted to address age and racial-ethnic PID-related health disparities. Here we describe the 13-month preliminary feasibility and acceptability outcomes of recruitment, retention, and intervention delivery for Technology Enhanced Community Health Precision Nursing (TECH-PN) randomized controlled trial. Urban AYAs 13-25 years assigned female sex at birth with acute mild-moderate PID provided baseline and follow-up interview data and vaginal

Effect of a Nurse-Led Community Health Worker Intervention on Latent Tuberculosis Medication Completion Among Homeless Adults.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) disproportionately affects marginalized and impoverished homeless adults. Although active TB can be prevented by treating latent TB infection (LTBI), individual factors, such as high prevalence of depression and anxiety, drug and alcohol use, and unstable housing, lead to poor LTBI treatment adherence and completion among homeless adults. OBJECTIVES: We hypothesized that the delivery of a tailored nurse-led, community health worker (RN/CHW) program across the LTBI continuum of care (e.g., screening, diagnosis, and treatment) that delivers 3HP treatment (3HP: rifa

Expanded practice roles for community mental health nurses in Australia: confidence, critical factors for preparedness, and perceived barriers.

As the momentum for nurse practitioner roles rapidly increases in Australia, little scholarly attention has been directed towards barriers to role expansion, the confidence necessary to undertake expanded practice roles (other than prescription of medication), or the educational preparation required for expanded roles. This paper reports on community mental health nurses' views regarding confidence to undertake expanded roles, their opinions regarding the necessary preparation for such roles, and barriers to role expansion. An questionnaire was administered to 296 community mental health nurse

Nurse-led hospital-to-community care, clinical outcomes for people living with HIV and health-related social needs.

AIMS: To evaluate whether patients with HIV enrolled in Linkage to Care (hospital-based only) or Linkage to Care Plus (nurse-led hospital-to-community transitional care) programmes fare better on clinical outcomes; and to investigate how factors such as substance use, mental health or health-related social needs contribute to these outcomes. BACKGROUND: Social determinants of health contribute to poor HIV outcomes such that only 57% of people living with HIV have achieved the goal of viral suppression nationally, and 50% are retained in clinical care. The programmes evaluated here aimed to in

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of the Technology-Enhanced Community Health Nursing Program for Adolescent Girls and Young Adult Women With Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) disproportionately impacts adolescents and young adult women. The Technology-Enhanced Community Health Nursing (TECH-N) trial demonstrated the potential benefit of a novel community health intervention for adolescents with PID. We assess the cost-effectiveness of TECH-N compared with standard care. METHODS: We constructed a cohort Markov model to assess the cost-effectiveness of TECH-N for adolescents with PID in an urban setting. The model used nine health states: PID; two states for STIs; four states for PID sequelae, recovery, and deceased stat

A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study of Trauma and Dissociation in the Community: Theoretical Re-Examination and Implications for Mental Health Nursing.

INTRODUCTION: Trauma is a risk factor for mental health problems. Pathological dissociation is often theorized as a response to trauma, yet it remains a controversial topic. AIM: The present study is one of the very few to examine trauma and dissociation in a representative general population sample and is the first of its kind in the Chinese context. We examined the prevalence of pathological dissociation and its association with trauma, potential iatrogenic effects, and functional impairment. METHODS: A random sample of community Hong Kong Chinese adults (N = 945) completed validated measu

The purpose of this descriptive study was to explore the problems of community dwelling persons 67 years and older, in meeting their self-care requisites, and the factors in living arrangements associated with these problems. Community nurses in both administration and practice can use the results in planning curative and preventive interventions for all the elderly or for groups of elderly according to living arrangements. These groups were those living alone, living with a spouse or living with other family members. A standardized questionnaire revised from Dr. Agnes Bjørns interview guide u
