Willingness to Pay for Pharmacist-Led Weight Management Services in Community Pharmacies: A Cross-Sectional Study in an Academic Medical Center in Saudi Arabia.

Background: Obesity is a growing public health crisis in Saudi Arabia. Community pharmacists are well-positioned to deliver accessible weight management services, but data on public willingness to pay (WTP) for these interventions remains limited. Aim: To assess the willingness of the Saudi Arabian public to pay for community pharmacist-led weight management services and identify factors associated with WTP. Methods: A cross-sectional, face-to-face survey was conducted among adults in a medical city in Riyadh between October 2025 and January 2026. WTP was elicited using the Payment Card method

"It's Worth Its Weight in Gold": Patient Reported Experience Measures of a National NHS-Funded Community Pharmacy-Based Common Ailments Service.

The NHS-funded Common Ailments Service (CAS) in Wales enables community pharmacists to manage 28 common ailments by providing advice and/or medication free of charge without the need for patients to book an appointment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patient experience of the CAS using patient reported experience measures (PREMs) and determine the feasibility of digital data capture collected directly from patients through a pharmacist-led manual recruitment model. The study used prospective, primary data collected through an online survey accessible via a Quick Response code and ce

Co-development and testing of an extended community pharmacy model of service delivery for managing osteoarthritis: protocol for a sequential, multi-methods study (PharmOA).

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis is a common, painful and disabling long-term condition. Delivery of high-quality guideline-informed osteoarthritis care that successfully promotes and maintains supported self-management is imperative. However, osteoarthritis care remains inconsistent, including under use of core non-pharmacological approaches of education, exercise and weight loss. Community pharmacies are an accessible healthcare provider. United Kingdom government initiatives are promoting their involvement in a range of long-term conditions, including musculoskeletal conditions. It is not known w

[Role of the Pharmacotherapeutic Monitoring Service (PMS) of the Community Pharmacy in the detection and resolution of adverse reactions to statins linked to possible diagnostic errors in elderly patients].

INTRODUCTION: The Medication Review in the Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up Service (PFS) seems to be an effective method to study long-term drug safety in the outpatient setting. The adverse drug reactions (ADRs) that are not immediately obvious are difficult to identify and sometimes can be confused with a more common condition. Misdiagnosis by not associating the symptoms of AMR to its pharmacological cause causes its masking and hinders its detection. OBJECTIVE: Detect in the SFT service the diagnostic errors related to the non-detection of adverse reactions to statins. MATERIAL AND METHODS

Factors associated with the acceptability of self-injection training by clients receiving DMPA-SC services from community pharmacies and patent and proprietary medicine vendors in Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: The self-administration of the subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC) has the potential to empower women and improve contraceptive use. Several studies have demonstrated the acceptability of the provider-administered DMPA-SC, for private, public, or community-based health providers, but less is known about self-injection training from community pharmacists (CPs) and Patent and Proprietary medicine Vendors (PPMVs) (also known as drug shops). The purpose of this study was to examine the factors associated with the acceptance of DMPA-SC self-injection training when p

Improved treatment-retention for patients receiving methadone dosing within the clinic providing physician and other health services (onsite) versus dosing at community (offsite) pharmacies.

OBJECTIVE: Opioid-use disorder has been declared a public health crisis across North America. One of the most common treatments for opioid-use disorder is opioid agonist therapy, including MMT. This study examined the impact of methadone dispensing in clinic (onsite) pharmacies versus community (offsite) pharmacies on treatment retention for patients initiating MMT. METHODS: We conducted a cohort study of 3743 patients who initiated MMT between 2011 and 2012 across a network of 43 MMT clinics in Ontario, Canada. Patients were grouped by level of collaboration between the clinic and the pharma

Building Tobacco Treatment Capacity and Sustainability: A Qualitative Study on Implementation of Community Pharmacy Technicians as Community Health Workers.

Community pharmacies are increasingly providing health care services like tobacco treatment and disease-related management but need sustainable models for implementation. As several state Medicaid programs reimburse for community health worker (CHW) services, one promising model is to have pharmacy technicians engage with patients as designated CHWs. This qualitative study interviewed staff in seven California pharmacies about their experience with and perspectives on implementing community pharmacy technicians as CHWs. Guided by implementation science frameworks, data were hand-coded and anal

Contested space in the pharmacy: public attitudes to pharmacy harm reduction services in the West of Scotland.

BACKGROUND: Internationally, community pharmacies have become increasingly involved in providing harm reduction services and health advice to people who use illicit drugs. OBJECTIVE: This paper considers public opinion of community pharmacy services. It discusses attitudes to harm reduction services in the context of stigmatization of addiction and people who use drugs. METHODS: This exploratory study involved twenty-six purposively sampled members of the public, from the West of Scotland, participating in one of 5 focus groups. The groups were composed to represent known groups of users and

Analysis of prior authorization success and timeliness at a community-based specialty care pharmacy.

BACKGROUND: Specialty medications may require a prior authorization (PA) before a patient can access the medication. Providers often identify PA approval as a burden for the practice. Pharmacists can facilitate the completion of the PA process. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to evaluate the time to first PA decision (approval or denial) for dermatologic medications dispensed by a community-based specialty pharmacy. A secondary objective was to compare PA timeliness (time to PA approval and time to first medication fill) between a community-based specialty pharmacy and a dermatology prov

Evaluation of the most frequently prescribed extemporaneously compounded medications in a rural setting: a case study from the Delmarva Peninsula.

Extemporaneous drug formulation is essential to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to infants, children, and other special patient populations when medications are not available in a suitable dosage form. This study examined the prescription patterns of extemporaneously compounded preparations from representative sites on the Delmarva Peninsula. Professional pharmacy students assigned to community pharmacy and hospital clinical sites were asked to collect the following data at their respective rotation sites: a list of the most commonly prescribed extemporaneously compounded products to inclu

Consumer perspectives of expanded practice in rural community pharmacy.

BACKGROUND: People living in rural and remote regions have mortality and morbidity rates worse than their counterparts in metropolitan cities. Distance to access healthcare and limited access to health professionals highlights the need for expanded pharmacy services to address the health disparity facing rural and remote Australia. OBJECTIVES: Examining consumers' perspective of expanded pharmacy services with a view to improving the health of their local community is a focus of the study. METHODS: A questionnaire was provided to 20 rural and remote community pharmacies across Australia, to

Assessing the ability of cross-trained pharmacy technician-community health workers to identify non-medical drivers of health resources.

BACKGROUND: Community pharmacies are increasingly attempting to address non-medical drivers of health (NMDoH) by screening patients for health-related social needs (HRSNs). Cross-training pharmacy technicians as community health workers (PhT-CHWs) may expand pharmacies' capacity to provide these services, but little is known about the community resources identified by PhT-CHWs during training or their associated Z-codes. Characterizing these resources may inform implementation of pharmacy-based community resource referral services. OBJECTIVE: To describe the NMDoH resources identified by PhTs

How does on-demand delivery impact the accessibility and equity of community pharmacies? Perspective from groups with heterogeneous geographic-digital barriers.

Accessibility to community pharmacy service (CPS) is a key concern in public health and spatial planning. Although on-demand delivery may expand service opportunities through digital platforms and third-party riders, its contribution to CPS potential accessibility and equity remains underexplored. Using 647 community units in central Tianjin, China, and survey-derived parameters from 600 questionnaires (83.5% response rate), this study extends the Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) method by incorporating multidimensional supply capacity and a time-decay function weighted by modeled supp

Support and perceived barriers to implementing pre-exposure prophylaxis screening and dispensing in pharmacies: Examining concordance between pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.

OBJECTIVES: Recent legislation to expand pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) screening and dispensing in pharmacies may significantly improve PrEP access for people at a high risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission. Studies have shown that pharmacists show wide support for PrEP expansion in pharmacies. However, pharmacy technicians are often the first point of contact for patients in pharmacies and are required to implement many of the tasks to ensure patients of a pharmacy receive adequate services. The purpose of this study was to assess pharmacists' and pharmacy technicians' per
