BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, many community-based organizations serving Asian Americans pivoted to provide web-based care and social services. Asian American community leaders in the United States Pacific Northwest, including Asian Health & Service Center expressed that there are older immigrant adults who experienced backlash from discrimination, fear, and anxiety owing in part to anti-Asian hate and isolation, including from infection precautions. Pivoting supported staying safe from COVID-19 transmission and anti-Asian hate crimes.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the rea

BACKGROUND: Most people in low- and middle-income countries work in the informal sector and lack social protection. In Bolivia, the unified family, community, and intercultural health model established universal health coverage for informal workers and their families in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic, which occurred soon after, exposed both the vulnerabilities and the strengths of this health policy.
AIM: To describe the community-based design of a health promotion strategy based on people-centered and participatory research within a vulnerable community of informal market vendors during the COV

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND: The arsenal of interventions to reduce the disproportionate rates of HIV and sexually transmitted disease (STD) infection among Latinos in the United States lags behind what is available for other populations. The purpose of this project was to develop an intervention that builds on existing community strengths to promote sexual health among immigrant Latinas.
METHODS: Our community-based participatory research (CBPR) partnership engaged in a multistep intervention development process. The steps were to (1) increase Latina participation in the existing partnership

Autism exists across all populations, including among Indigenous Peoples, yet the experiences of First Nations caregivers of Autistic children remain significantly under-researched. This study explores the lived realities of caregivers in two First Nations communities: Maskwacîs (Alberta) and Six Nations of the Grand River (Ontario). Guided by a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach and grounded in the nêhiyaw concept of wâhkôtowin (relationality), this research was co-led by the Autism Community Research Circle, which included Elders, Autistic individuals, caregivers, and pro

BACKGROUND: Physical activity is an effective evidence-based intervention with extensive physical and psychosocial benefits for individuals living with and beyond cancer. Despite being the largest visible minority group in Canada, uptake of currently available exercise interventions, such as the Canada-wide Exercise for Cancer to Enhance Living Well (EXCEL) study, is low among individuals of South Asian heritage living with and beyond cancer. Culturally tailored programming may help to address barriers to participation.
METHODS: Using a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach,

BACKGROUND: Traditional rehabilitation research often excludes the voices of individuals with lived experience of traumatic brain injury (TBI), resulting in interventions that lack relevance, accessibility, and effectiveness. Community-based participatory research (CBPR) offers an alternative framework that emphasizes collaboration, power sharing, and sustained engagement with patients, caregivers, and clinicians.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to apply CBPR to guide front-end design (empathy interviews, empathy mapping, personas) and to evaluate the sociotechnical-pedagogical usability of the E

BACKGROUND: People living with HIV/AIDS and their informal caregivers (usually family members) in Malawi do not have adequate access to patient-centered care, particularly in remote rural areas of the country because of the high burden of HIV/AIDS, coupled with a fragmented and patchy health care system. Chronic conditions require self-care strategies, which are now promoted in both developed and developing contexts but are still only emerging in sub-Saharan African countries.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the effects of the implementation of a short-term intervention aimed at support

Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is increasingly standard practice for critical qualitative health research with young people who use(d) drugs in Vancouver, Canada. One aim of CBPR in this context is to redress the essentialization, erasure, and exploitation of people who use(d) drugs in health research. In this paper, we reflect on a partnership that began in 2018 between three university researchers and roughly ten young people (ages 17-28) who have current or past experience with drug use and homelessness in Greater Vancouver. We focus on moments when our guiding principles of

OBJECTIVES: Inequalities in oral health have been on the rise globally. In Sweden, these differences exist not between regions, but among subgroups living in vulnerable situations. This study aims at understanding behavioural change after taking part in participatory oral health promotional activity among families living in socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Southern Sweden.
SETTING: The current study involved citizens from a socially disadvantaged neighbourhood in Malmö, together with actors from the academic, public and private sectors. These neighbourhoods were characterised by high

This mixed-methods convergent study identified systemic barriers and community assets impacting the health outcomes of women residing in a geopolitical borderland community peri- and post-COVID-19. The study was conducted in a southern Arizona region during the post-pandemic recovery period. The study sample (N = 33) consisted predominantly of Latiné women, 18 years+, who have participated in Young Women's Christian Association Southern Arizona health and well-being programs. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through a survey, interviews, and focus groups. Utilizing a community-

BACKGROUND: Youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability exhibit disparities in tobacco use and co-use of tobacco and cannabis products compared to their stably housed peers. Interventions to address these disparities have had limited success to date. This may be related to a lack of fit between intervention approaches and the unique needs and preferences of this marginalized population. Leveraging strategies to facilitate authentic engagement of youth in intervention research, including collaborating with youth in the cocreation of intervention goals and strategies, presents an opp

In Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), people with shared lived experiences (co-researchers) identify priority needs and work collaboratively to co-design an action-oriented research advocacy project. For this to occur, academic researchers must build mutually respectful partnerships with co-researchers by establishing trust. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, our objective was to virtually assemble a group of co-researchers (people with diverse but relevant experiences of homelessness and diabetes) and academic researchers who engaged in the CBPR process to identify a project

BACKGROUND: Population mobility is prevalent and complex in sub-Saharan Africa, and can disrupt HIV care and fuel onward transmission. While differentiated care models show promise for meeting the needs of mobile populations by addressing care cascade gaps, the voices of mobile populations need to be included when designing care delivery models. We assessed the unmet needs of mobile populations and engaged mobile stakeholders in the design and implementation of service delivery to improve care outcomes for mobile people living with HIV (PLHIV).

We designed this community-based participatory research (CBPR) project aiming to generate evidence-based research results to encourage residents living in urban low-income public housing dwellings engaging in a community-wide integrated pest management (IPM) program with the intention to improve their health and quality of life, as well as household conditions. We enrolled 20 families and their children in this study in which we utilized environmental exposure assessment (surface wipe and indoor air) tools to quantitatively assessing residential pesticide exposure in young children before the

This special communications piece responds to previous calls from the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation to incorporate methodological diversity in our work, specifically community-based participatory research (CBPR). Our team reports on our CBPR efforts and use of Human-Centered Design (HCD) within the context of executing a multidisciplinary Department of Defense-funded award on improving access to care for those with traumatic brain injury (TBI). First, we situate the context for our program, "Improving Health Care Access and Engagement for Veterans and Service Members with TBI M

American Indians (AIs) experience continued disparities in incidence, mortality, and survival on cancers responsive to early screening in the USA. In New Mexico, AIs compared with other racial/ethnic populations are substantially less likely to adhere to recommended screening guidelines. Our study focuses on increasing cancer awareness using culturally, linguistically, and health literacy appropriate informational materials. We conducted 10 focus groups between June and December 2021 using non-probability purposive sampling methods in the Zuni Pueblo in rural New Mexico. We established a nine-

This article describes the incorporation of the arts into a community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) project formulated to develop and test practices for helping homeless older African-American women. Studying how older African-American women become homeless has evolved into developing and testing promising interventions by the Leaving Homelessness Intervention Research Project (LHIRP). The women's participation in creative group activities helped them to communicate their experience with homelessness, express their concerns, develop personal strengths, and obtained mutual underst

Strategies to date have been ineffective in reducing high rates of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in Australian Aboriginal people; a disease caused by streptococcal infections. A remote Aboriginal community initiated a collaboration to work towards elimination of RHD. Based in 'both-way learning' (reciprocal knowledge co-creation), the aim of this study was to co-design, implement and evaluate community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) to achieve this vision. Activities related to understanding and addressing RHD social determinants were delivered through an accredited course adapted
