OBJECTIVE: Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) traits and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are commonly associated with patients with Anorexia Nervosa (AN). The aim of this review was to systematically search the literature to examine whether OCPD and OCD are positively associated with excessive exercise in patients with AN.
METHOD: A systematic electronic search of the literature (using PsycInfo, Medline and Web of Knowledge) was undertaken to identify relevant publications until May 2012.
RESULTS: A total of ten studies met criteria for inclusion in the review. The design o

BACKGROUND: Human and animal studies point to 3 dimensions of personality that change during pharmacotherapy with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Specifically, harm avoidance has been found to decrease, social dominance has been found to increase, and hostility in social situations has been found to decrease with SSRI treatment. We sought to determine personality changes in subjects with either major depressive disorder (MDD) or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) treated with paroxetine. We also sought to determine whether or not these personality changes were associated with

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) is characterized by a lifelong pattern of excessive attention to detail, rigidity and perfectionism. Although OCPD was historically linked to Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCRDs), this connection lacks consistent evidence. Compulsive behaviors, core to OCRDs, are repetitive actions aimed at reducing distress. To elucidate mechanistic links between OCPD and compulsive behaviors, this study examined relationships between OCPD traits, OCRD symptom domains, and cognitive functioning.
METHODS: In a transdiagnostic sample of

Personality provides a general structure for variation in psychopathology, but several issues involving associations between personality traits and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) remain poorly understood. These issues include differences in associations across normal-range and maladaptive traits, differences across OCD features, and possible non-linear associations. In this study, we estimated linear and non-linear associations between personality traits and OCD features in 350 Iranian adults aged 18-70 (mean 32.2 ± 9.6). Participants completed the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), the

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a chronic condition that involves a maladaptive pattern of excessive perfectionism, preoccupation with orderliness and details, and the need for control over one's environment. It is one of the most common personality disorders in the general population, with an estimated prevalence ranging from 1.9% to 7.8%. Despite the fact that patients with OCPD often present for treatment, there is little empirical research on treatments for OCPD, and there is no definitive empirically supported treatment for the condition. This review provides an overvi

Microgenetic styles of regulation of subjects with (n = 46) and without (n = 44) psychometric evidence of personality disorders were assessed by means of the Serial Color-Word Test. The disordered group were characterized by the primary Dissociative pattern and by very low values of the initial strategy called ITa. Subjects with psychometric evidence of Histrionic (n = 21) and Obsessive-Compulsive (n = 21) Personality Disorders were then compared. Histrionic personality corresponded most often to a primary Stabilized style, with a progressive slight increase of dissociation over time (Cv type)

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease (CAD) have a high prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities, that may impact clinically relevant outcomes (e.g., cognitive impairment and executive dysfunction). Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a common psychiatric comorbidity in CAD. It has a distinct cognitive profile characterised by inflexible thinking and executive dysfunction, which in turn may affect treatment adherence. However, the impact of OCPD on cognitive functioning in CAD is under-researched. We aimed to investigate the impact of OCPD on execut

OBJECTIVE: The comorbidity of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and personality disorders (PDs) is frequent but there are conflicting findings about which PDs are the most common. This study aimed to investigate the personality beliefs that exist on a more pathological level among OCD patients, to explore the association between personality beliefs and OCD severity, and to clarify the mediator effect of depression in this relationship.
METHODS: 202 OCD patients and 76 healthy controls with similar sociodemographic features were included in the study. The Personality Belief Questionnaire-Sho

For women with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) trait symptoms, coping with childbearing and parenting could be associated with postpartum depressive symptoms. Therefore, the possible relationship between OCPD trait symptoms and trajectories of postpartum depressive symptoms was examined. A cohort of 1427 women was followed from late pregnancy until 12 months' postpartum. Trajectories of postpartum depressive symptoms were determined using growth mixture modeling with five repeated assessments. Next, the relationship between OCPD trait symptoms and these trajectories was examin

Even though obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) and anxiety disorders (AD) have been separated in the taxonomy adopted by the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, many issues remain concerning the physiopathological similarities and differences between those categories. Our objective was therefore to explore and compare their personality and emotional features, with the assumption that the distinction of two independent spectrums should imply the existence of two partially distinct temperamental profiles. We used the Temperament and Character Inventory (

OBJECTIVES: Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCDP) traits are commonly associated with eating disorders (EDs), with evidence demonstrating that these traits predispose and exacerbate the ED illness course. However, limited research has examined the symptomatic interplay between ED and OCDP traits. We used network analysis to (1) identify the most central symptoms in a network comprised of OCPD traits retrospectively assessed in childhood and ED symptoms and (2) to identify symptoms which bridged OCPD traits and ED symptoms.
METHODS: Participants were 320 females with an ED (anorexia

A. Raine et al.'s (1994) 3-factor scheme is currently the most widely accepted model of schizotypal personality disorder (SPD). Factor analytic studies of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ; A. Raine, 1991) subscales, which represent the 9 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) criteria for SPD, have provided the model's primary support. The use of only 9 modeled variables, however, limits the number of factors that can be extracted. To explicate this structure more fully, the authors conducted item-level factor analyses of the SPQ in a large student sample tha

Brain structure correlates of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) remain poorly understood as limited OCPD assessment has precluded well-powered studies. Here, we tested whether machine learning (ML; elastic net regression, gradient boosting machines, support vector regression with linear and radial kernels) could estimate OCPD scores from personality data and whether ML-predicted scores are associated with indices of brain structure (cortical thickness and surface area and subcortical volumes). Among older adults (ns = 898-1,606) who completed multiple OCPD assessments, ML elasti

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is commonly comorbid with major depressive disorder, and their comorbidity is associated with worsened outcomes and treatment refraction. Radically open dialectical behavior therapy (RO DBT) is a novel transdiagnostic psychosocial intervention. RO DBT targets OCPD-related traits (e.g., maladaptive perfectionism, inflexibility) and has been theorized as an OCPD treatment. This study examined RO DBT efficacy for treatment-refractory depression (TRD), with and without comorbid OCPD. RefraMED was a multisite randomized controlled trial of treatment

Although several studies have examined the relationships between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the Big Five personality traits (i.e., neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness), the results have been inconsistent. Therefore, this meta-analysis comprehensively examined the relationships between OCD and these traits. In total, 23 studies (29 independent datasets) with 30,138 participants were analyzed. The pooled effect size was 0.34 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.28, 0.40) for neuroticism, -0.14 (95% CI: -0.18, -0.10) for extraversion, -0.04 (95% CI:

We aim to determine the correlation between parental rearing, personality traits, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in different quantiles. In particular, we created an intermediary effect model in which parental rearing affects OCD through personality traits. All predictors were measured at the time of the survey, comprising parental rearing (paternal rearing and maternal rearing), demographics (grade and gender), and personality traits (neuroticism, extroversion, and psychoticism). These results suggest that (a) paternal emotional warmth was negatively correlated with OCD at the 0.40-0
