Select estimates of contraceptive use in the 2015-16 National Family Health Survey (NFHS is equivalent to the Demographic and Health Survey in India) have come under the scrutiny of researchers and policy makers globally. Using four waves (1992-93, 1998-99, 2005-06, and 2015-16) of published NFHS reports, this article aims to highlight the change in Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) and initiate a discussion to help investigate the reasons for the recent decline of CPR.

BACKGROUND: Women who use drugs (WWUD) have low rates of contraceptive use and high rates of unintended pregnancy. Drug use is common among women in rural U.S. communities, with limited data on how they utilize reproductive, substance use disorder (SUD), and healthcare services.
OBJECTIVE: We determined contraceptive use prevalence among WWUD in rural communities then compared estimates to women from similar rural areas. We investigated characteristics of those using contraceptives, and associations between contraceptive use and SUD treatment, healthcare utilization, and substance use.

INTRODUCTION: Sexuality is a sensitive issue that may be difficult to explore through surveys involving direct contact. Epidemiological studies in this domain are scarce. Online surveys may provide more anonymity and less direct contact encouraging participation. The Global Online Sexuality Survey (GOSS) reports on different aspects of male and female sexuality. The Global Online Sexuality Survey-Arabic-Males (GOSS-AR-M) is the Arabic version reporting on male sexuality.
AIM: To evaluate male ejaculatory function, penile size and contraceptive trends among Arabic speakers in the Middle East.

BACKGROUND: In France, while the prevalence of contraception is high, a significant proportion of pregnancies are unintended. Following the 2012 pill scare, the contraceptive method mix, which was mostly comprised of pills and intrauterine devices (IUD), has become more diversified. In this changing landscape, our objective was to describe trends in live births resulting from contraceptive failure and evaluate how patterns of contraceptive use have contributed to observed changes between 2010 and 2016.
METHODS: We used data from the 2010 and the 2016 French National Perinatal surveys which in

The low uptake of postpartum family planning contributes to around 80 million unplanned pregnancies globally each year. Despite the postpartum period being crucial for preventing unintended pregnancies, modern contraceptive use remains low in Sub-Saharan Africa, with notable regional differences. This study aims to assess the pooled prevalence of modern contraceptive use, its spatial variation, and associated factors among postpartum women in Sub-Saharan Africa, utilizing data from recent Demographic Health Surveys (2015-2023). A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from 27 Sub-Sa

BACKGROUND: The need for a concerted effort to address the gaps in family planning services for youth in sub-Saharan Africa has been underreported and underexplored.
STUDY DESIGN: Trends in fertility, childbearing, unmet need for family planning options and contraceptive prevalence (CP) among youth are described with data from six African countries with four consecutive Demographic and Health Surveys. Estimates of exposure to risk of pregnancy and number of new contraceptives users needed to maintain and double CP in 2015 are calculated using current CP and projected youth population size in

IMPORTANCE: Individuals who use contraceptive pills, patches, and rings must frequently interact with the health care system for continued and consistent use. As options for obtaining these methods expand, better understanding contraceptive users' preferences for source of contraception can help facilitate access.
OBJECTIVE: To describe use of preferred source of contraception and to understand associations between prior reproductive health care experiences and preference for traditional in-person sources vs alternative sources.

With an unequalled contraceptive prevalence rate in sub-Saharan Africa, of 43% among currently married women in Zimbabwe, the Central Statistical Office (1989) observed that fertility has declined sharply in recent years. Using data from several surveys on Zimbabwe, especially the birth histories of the Zimbabwe Demographic and Health Survey, this study examines fertility trends in Zimbabwe. The results show that the fertility decline in Zimbabwe is modest and that the decline is concentrated among high order births. Multivariate analysis did not show a statistically significant effect of cont

BACKGROUND: In Uganda, the risk of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions remains high due to relatively low contraceptive use. There is paucity of data on knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and practices towards modern contraceptives and, sexual and reproductive health especially among the young female university students.
METHODS: A survey was conducted at Makerere University main campus in Kampala, Uganda during April 2014. A team of well-trained and experienced research assistants interviewed female undergraduate students who provided data on socio-demographic characteristics, knowled

OBJECTIVE: Measuring current use of contraception relies on self-reported responses from survey respondents. Reporting validity may be affected by women's interpretation of the question and may vary by background characteristics of women. The study aims to understand levels and patterns of underreporting of female sterilization in a population with high sterilization rates.
STUDY DESIGN: Data came from the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 survey conducted in Rajasthan, India, in early 2017. In addition to a conventional question to ascertain current contraceptive use, the survey

Contraception has been little investigated in bipolar disorder, an illness associated with impulsive sexual behavior and use of medications that are unsafe during pregnancy. In this cross-sectional survey of 136 women with bipolar disorder, prevalence of contraception use was 58.8%. Use of any method was associated in the multivariable analysis with being married, younger than 40 and having had previous pregnancies. Women diagnosed with bipolar disorder and treated in a tertiary facility use contraceptive methods suboptimally.

Lifetime reproductive histories of a 1984-85 nationally representative sample of 870 women aged 25-59 years provided data to describe the evolution of fertility, contraception, breast-feeding, and natural fecundability in Costa Rica between 1960 and 1984. The contraceptive prevalence rate increased from 23% in 1965 to 58% in 1975 and 66% in 1984. Duration of breast-feeding was stable during the 1960s, decreased in the early 1970s, and increased after about 1976. Fecundability among women who did not practise contraception was lower than expected and declined between 1960 and 1975, probably bec

The prevalence and use of contraceptive methods is an essential element to explain the behaviour of fertility and population growth. The objective of this study was to analyse the spatial correlation between the use of contraceptive methods in women of childbearing age and fertility levels observed in Mexico's municipalities in 2020. Data on contraceptive use are from the National Survey of Demographic Dynamics (ENADID) 2018, while fertility rates were estimated from vital statistics and population census data. Three Bayesian spatial models including fixed effects, random effects and spatial e
