We demonstrated that anionic porphyrins could be stacked and separated in micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) and microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) by applying acetonitrile and high salt content in human urine sample matrix. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In vitro and in vivo studies were performed with the novel, selective, nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist finerenone to assess the relevance of inhibitory effects on the transporters breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), organic anion transporting polypeptide 1B1 (OATP1B1), and OATP1B3. These transporters are involved in the disposition of a number of drugs, including statins. Statins are also a frequent comedication in patients receiving finerenone. Therefore, inhibitory effects on BCRP and OATPs are of potential clinical relevance.

A case of intense grey-brown discoloration of the skin, serum and urine in a premature twin is reported when phototherapy was used to reduce hyperbilirubinemia. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) has been shown to inhibit uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase activity resulting in chronic hepatic porphyria. From a cross-sectional study of 170 workers in chemical industry 68 showed elevated coproporphyrin levels, interpreted as secondary coproporphyrinuria. Propionibacterium acnes is often discussed as a contributing pathogenic factor in the aetiology of acne lesions. The aim of this study was to test which porphyrin patterns are synthesized by P. acnes in vivo in untreated acne patients and during standard acne regimens. A 22-year-old woman had icteric sclerae since childhood. The subjects of the study were 399 patients with internal diseases and metabolic disturbances. The influence of hormonal oral contraceptives on the urinary porphyrin excretion of 40 healthy females has been studied. Two different hormonal oral contraceptives (combinations of gestoden or desogestrel, respectively, and ethinylestradiol) were applied for half a year.
