Perspective: A head-to-toe view on athletic locomotion with an emphasis on assessing core stability.

Although much research has been devoted to gait analysis while walking or running, a surprising gap in knowledge is its relationship with upper body function, particularly core stability. The methods used to train and assess athletic locomotion are mainly focused on the lower limbs, while the upper body is often overlooked. Yet, proper body alignment from feet to head is essential for applying maximum force to the ground, thereby moving faster and more efficiently. It is believed that the core, which connects the upper and lower body, should be strong. The training of many athletes is therefor

The stability and removal of water-dispersed CdSe/CdS core-shell quantum dots from water.

The increasingly wide use of semiconductor nanocrystals inevitably leads to their release into aquatic environment. The aggregation behaviors of 3-mercaptopropionic acid-capped CdSe/CdS core-shell quantum dots (MPA-QDs) under various water chemistry conditions were examined and their removal using Fe3+ and Al3+ coagulants was evaluated. Cationic species rather than concentrations affected the stability of MPA-QDs. Adding 2 mM Ca2+ led to a much larger ζ-potential decrease and particle size increase than adding 150 mM K+ at each tested solution pH. This indicated that complexation and depletion

Additive-Mediated Stability Enhancement of Bakuchiol-Loaded Alginate Core-Shell Microcapsules Fabricated by Coaxial Electrospray.

Bakuchiol is a bioactive compound with promising cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. However, its poor stability toward light, oxygen, and environmental conditions limits its practical use. In this study, bakuchiol-loaded alginate microcapsules were fabricated via coaxial electrospray, and the effects of polymer additives on the stability and structural properties of the microcapsules were systematically investigated. Optimized electrospray conditions produced spherical microcapsules with uniform particle size and morphological characteristics consistent with the proposed core-shell conf

Structural Rearrangement upon Fragmentation of the Stability Core of the ALS-Linked Protein TDP-43.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common adult degenerative motor neuron disease. Experimental evidence indicates a direct role of transactive-response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) in the pathology of ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases. TDP-43 has been identified as a major component of cytoplasmic inclusions in patients with sporadic ALS; however, the molecular basis of the disease mechanism is not yet fully understood. Fragmentation within the second RNA recognition motif (RRM2) of TDP-43 has been observed in patient tissues and may play a role in the formation of aggr

Core stability status classification based on mediolateral head motion during rhythmic movements and functional movement tests.

OBJECTIVE: Core stability assessment is paramount for the prevention of low back pain, with core stability being considered as the most critical factor in such pain. The objective of this study was to develop a simple model for the automated assessment of core stability status. METHODS: To assess core stability-defined as the ability to control trunk position relative to the pelvic position - we used an inertial measurement unit sensor embedded within a wireless earbud to estimate the mediolateral head angle during rhythmic movements (RMs) such as cycling, walking, and running. The activities
