Mucinous Cystadenocarcinoma Arising From a Mature Cystic Teratoma.

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma arising from mature cystic teratoma is an uncommon entity. The possibilities are either due to malignant transformation of benign teratoma into adenocarcinoma or a collision tumor between a mature cystic teratoma and a mucinous tumor. Here we present a case of a woman with abdominal distension and vague abdominal pain. Ultrasound abdomen showed a huge heterogeneous space-occupying lesion extending from the pelvis to the epigastrium with non-visualisation of the ovary, suggesting an ovarian origin. Further characterisation by contrast-enhanced computed tomography con

A Rare Case of Incidental Urachal Mucinous Cystadenocarcinoma.

The urachus is a remnant of the embryonic allantois that connects the urinary bladder to the umbilicus. In most cases, it commonly obliterates before birth. Here we present the case of a 60-year-old man with a past medical history of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and anal human papillomavirus (HPV). He was referred for an abdominal mass that had been found incidentally while being admitted for an acute kidney injury; it had been excised, and pathological examination showed urachal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. Surgical excision is performed for the majority of cases with a higher survival

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in a male patient.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous neoplasms are extremely rare tumors. Less than sixty cases have been reported in international literature until date, with striking female predominance. We report a case of primary mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the retroperitoneum in a 51-year-old male presenting with nonspecific abdominal complaints. This case is being highlighted for its rare occurrence in a male patient.

Biliary cystadenocarcinoma: an unusual cause for recurrent hemobilia.

Hemobilia is an uncommon presentation of biliary tract or pancreatic disease. The investigation and management of this clinical problem is challenging. We report on a case of biliary tract hemorrhage from an otherwise asymptomatic right lobe biliary cystadenocarcinoma and review the literature on this unusual presentation. Hemobilia from primary or secondary liver tumors is not frequently reported in the literature. Hemobilia in this setting is usually observed in association with an obvious liver mass or abnormal liver function tests. This is a report of a case of hemobilia as the primary pre

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of renal pelvis presenting as pyonephrosis.

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of renal pelvis is a rare epithelial tumor with poor prognosis. It is postulated to arise from metaplastic glandular mucosa in response to chronic irritation, and comprises less than 0.3% of total renal pelvic tumors. We present this case of a tumor noted in a 45-year-old lady that was diagnosed as mucinous cystadenocarcinoma on histological examination after radical nephrectomy. The patient is remaining well over a follow-up of three months.

Successful surgical management of an extrahepatic biliary cystadenocarcinoma.

Extrahepatic bile duct cancer is an uncommon disease, and few cases are curable by surgery. We report a case of extrahepatic biliary cystadenocarcinoma (BCAC) associated with atrophy of the left hepatic lobe. A 54-year old male was admitted with painless obstructive jaundice and a hepatic palpable mass noticed one month before presentation. Liver functions tests were consistent with cholestatic damage and serum carbohydrate antigen 19.9 (CA 19-9) was increased before treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) disclosed dilatation of the left hepatic bile duct with irregular wall thickening cl

Primary biliary cystadenocarcinoma mimicking a complicated hydatid cyst.

Cystadenocarcinoma of the liver is a rare neoplasm that originates from hepatobiliary epithelium. Primary location of this tumor is generally intrahepatic and most cases are in the right hepatic lobe. Herein we present a case of intrahepatic cystadenocarcinoma in a 53-year-old man who had been followed up for 8 years as hydatic cyst disease of the liver. He was admitted to our hospital with jaundice and loss of appetite. Ultrasound and computed tomography showed a cystic lesion that looked like type II cyst hidatic. Thereafter magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cystic lesion associated with

[Biliary cystic neoplasm: biliary cystadenoma and biliary cystadenocarcinoma].

Biliary cystic tumors, such as cystadenoma and cystadenocarcinoma, are rare cystic tumors of liver accounting for fewer than 5% of all intrahepatic cysts of biliary origin. Most biliary cystic tumors arise from intrahepatic bile duct and 10-20% arise from extrahepatic bile duct like common hepatic duct, common bile duct, and gallbladder. The first case report of biliary cystic neoplasm in Korea dated back to 1975 by Bae et al, and over 40 cases of cystadenoma and 35 cases of cystadenocarcinoma were reported since then. These tumors usually present in middle-aged women with a mean age of 50 yea

Mucinous appendicular cystadenocarcinoma during pregnancy. A case report.

BACKGROUND: Primary appendicular adenocarcinoma is a rare type of appendicular carcinoma. We report mucinous appendicular adenocarcinoma during pregnancy. To our knowledge, this is the third reported case. CASE: A 35-year-old woman at 21 weeks of gestation presented with acute abdominal symptoms for the previous 10 days and underwent appendectomy. Histopathologically, examination of the appendectomy material was reported as "mucinous appendicular cystadenocarcinoma." The pregnancy was terminated by misoprostol induction. A right hemicolectomy and staging procedure were performed on the third

Serous cystadenocarcinoma of the pancreas: a population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Serous cystadenocarcinoma (SCAc) of the pancreas is an exceptionally rare malignant pancreatic neoplasm, and its clinical characteristics, treatment patterns, and prognosis remain poorly defined. The aim of this population-based study was to characterize the demographic and clinical features, treatment patterns, and survival of patients with pancreatic SCAc. METHODS: Patients with microscopically confirmed SCAc were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry. Demographic, tumor-related, treatment, and survival data were analyzed using descripti

Hepatobiliary cystadenomas and cystadenocarcinomas: a report of 33 cases.

BACKGROUND: Hepatobiliary cystadenomas and cystadenocarcinomas are rare and often misdiagnosed. AIMS: We report our experience with 33 cases over 20 years to discuss an algorithm for these diseases. METHODS: Patients presenting with a diagnosis of hepatobiliary cystadenomas and cystadenocarcinomas were retrospectively reviewed from January 1991 to October 2010. Clinical data were collected by examining hospital records and by follow-up questionnaire interviews. RESULTS: Thirty-three patients had pathologically diagnosed hepatobiliary cystadenomas (19/33, 17 females and two males) or cystade

Neoplastic transformation of endocervicosis into an extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.

Although extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinomas resemble primary ovarian carcinomas, both histologically and clinically, their specific etiology is not clear. This is the first report to show neoplastic transformation of endocervicosis into an extraovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. The histologic spectrum and specific KRAS mutational analysis for this tumor were the same as for their ovarian counterparts. This supports a müllerian origin and the current approach to extrapolate the results from ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma trials in prescribing treatment for patients with extraovar

MRI findings of papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the submandibular gland.

Papillary cystadenocarcinoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor of the salivary glands. Major locations of this neoplasm are the parotid gland, sublingual gland, and minor salivary glands, while occurrence in the submandibular gland is extremely rare. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of this lesion have not been reported in the literature. Herein, we present a case of papillary cystadenocarcinoma arising from the right submandibular gland. MRI showed a 5-cm mass composed of solid and cystic components in the mildly enlarged gland. Pathologic evaluation revealed papillary cystadenoca

Appendiceal mucocele of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with a cutaneous fistula.

We report a novel case of cystadenocarcinoma forming an appendiceal mucocele with development of a skin fistula. The patient was a 75-year-old Japanese woman who originally presented with a skin ulcer on the right flank (inferior to the ribs and superior to the iliac bone) with mucus discharge. The serum concentration of carcinoembryonal antigen was elevated (57.4 ng/ml). Ultrasonography and computed tomography demonstrated a cystic mass with septations in the right iliac fossa. Fistulography from the skin ulceration showed a communication via the fistula to the caecum. A right hemicolectomy a

[Papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the submaxillary gland. A rare diagnosis].

The authors describe a case of a "separate" type of salivary adenocarcinoma-like tumor. The growth is described as a papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the submaxillary gland, which should be distinguished from degenerate adenolymphoma. This malignant tumor, which remains "enclosed" until late, grows slowly and should be checked regularly over a protracted period of time following surgical excision performed in accordance with cancer therapy specifications.

Papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the bile ducts resulting in hemobilia.

Cystadenocarcinoma is a rare tumor of the intrahepatic and a very rare tumor of the extrahepatic biliary system. In the reported cases, abdominal swelling is the most common presenting symptom, followed by right upper quadrant mass. Melena was the initial presenting symptom in the present case. Bleeding into the second part of the duodenum was observed only during the third diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Hemobilia was suspected because of abnormal liver enzymes and a mass in the left lobe of the liver on computerized tomography. At laparotomy, we suspected that the mass was a hemangiom
