Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) is a condition presenting to both the dental and otolaryngologic practitioner. Common causes of OMS include dental implants, displacement of a maxillary tooth root tip during extraction, migration of materials used in root canal therapy or graft material in sinus lift procedure. A 68-year-old male patient presented with complaints of repeated episodes of sinusitis for about 3 months which was not responding to conservative management. He had undergone multiple dental procedures 5 months back. Limited cut CT Paranasal Sinus form peripheral centre was sugges

UNLABELLED: Ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the ovary, common among reproductive women. Mucinous cystadenoma is a common variety of non-functional benign lesions that presents vague symptoms and can mislead the diagnosis. A 26-year-old female presented to the clinic with weakness and lethargy, which lasted for 3 months, along with other symptoms like headache, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and constipation. She was managed with iron deficiency anaemia, however, her symptoms did not improve. Later, an ultrasound revealed an ovarian cyst. Laparoscopic left-sided ovarian cystectomy was

RATIONALE: Mucinous cystadenoma is a benign tumor that is commonly found in the pancreas, ovaries, or appendix, but is rarely encountered in the lungs. Worldwide, only a few reported cases of these tumors originate in the lungs. Herein, we analyzed the imaging features of a case of pulmonary mucinous cystadenoma (PMCA). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of PMCA complicated by significant infection.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 57-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with blood in sputum for more than 2 months. Serum laboratory examination showed significantly elevated

A 73 year-old woman who was treated for breast cancer and visited our hospital regularly was suspected of having a mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix. Malignancy could not be determined using abdominal computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or colonoscopy. Even if mucinous cystadenoma is benign, there is the possibility that the tumor will rupture, discharge its contents, and cause pseudomyxoma peritonei. We performed laparoscopic appendectomy. According to the histopathological results, the tumor was diagnosed as a low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. We report a case of mucin

Germline mutations in the fumarate hydratase (FH) gene were recently shown to predispose to the dominantly inherited syndrome, hereditary leiomyomatosis and renal cell cancer (HLRCC). HLRCC is characterized by benign leiomyomas of the skin and the uterus, renal cell carcinoma, and uterine leiomyosarcoma. The aim of this study was to identify new families with FH mutations, and to further examine the tumor spectrum associated with FH mutations. FH germline mutations were screened from 89 patients with RCC, skin leiomyomas or ovarian tumors. Subsequently, 13 ovarian and 48 bladder carcinomas wer

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a common disease, but ureteral involvement is rare. Nonspecific clinical presentations of ureteral endometriosis may result in diagnostic difficulty.
AIM: To discuss the diagnosis and management of such a case.
METHODS: To report a case of ureteral involvement with endometriosis and review the literature.
RESULTS: The case presented with right lower quadrant pain giving rise to initial diagnostic possibility of acute appendicitis. Subsequent evaluation revealed the diagnosis of right pyonephrosis due to midureteral endometriosis with right ovarian mucinous cysta

There are very few benign or malignant diseases which arise in the remnant pancreas after pancreatectomy. Pancreatic carcinoma in the remnant pancreas after pylorus preserving pancreatoduodenectomy (PpPD) for mucinous cystadenoma in a 66-year-old Japanese man is reported in this paper. The patient underwent PpPD for a mucinous cystadenoma in the pancreatic head 39 months prior to the present operation. The surgical margins of the PpPD specimen were free from atypical cells. Follow-up ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic lesion in the body of the remnant pancreas. Magnetic resonance cholangiop

Mucinous cystadenoma with malignant transformation occupying the lower half portion of the right renal pelvis in a 69-year-old Japanese man was recorded. The patient had recent dysuria but no clinical history of pyelonephritis or urolithiasis. Under the clinical diagnosis of unusual renal cyst, the right total nephrectomy was performed. Grossly, the cystic tumor, 5 cm across, formed a monolocular lumen filled with mucins and showed no direct communication with the renal pelvis inside. Microscopically, the epithelial lining was characterized by a single layer of benign mucin producing columnar

We used laparoscopy to treat a case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma. This tumours is rarely encountered and has been reported in 22 cases in the literature. The histogenesis is uncertain. Diagnosis is never made preoperatively since primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenomas are usually mistaken for cystic lymphangiomas of the retroperitoneum. Surgery is the only treatment. Laparoscopic surgery can be used only if the cystadenocarcinomatous nature of the tumour is ruled out.

Mucinous carcinoma of the pancreas has been rarely documented. Consequently, studies on imaging criteria for distinguishing mucinous carcinoma from other pancreatic tumors remain insufficient. Herein, we report a resected case of mucinous carcinoma of the pancreas, including correlation analysis between imaging and pathology. Imaging studies revealed a honeycomb-like multinodular cystic mass with poor contrast enhancement and an irregular contour. In conclusion, mucinous carcinoma of the pancreas can present as a multinodular cystic mass with a honeycomb-like structure. A key feature distingui

Isthmocele is a discontinuation of the myometrium at the uterine scar site in a patient with a previous cesarian section (CS). The cause of isthmocele appears to be multifactorial. Poor surgical technique, low incision location, uterine retroflection, obesity, smoking, inadequate healing of scars, and maternal age are possible related factors. Most patients with this condition are asymptomatic. However, women can present with postmenstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, subfertility, dysmenorrhea, infertility, and scar abscess. Brazil has one of the world's highest cesarean section rates. One of the c

While appendiceal intussusception is an uncommon pathological condition, mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix is a particularly rare entity. We report a case of appendiceal intussusception induced by a mucinous cystadenoma presenting as acute appendicitis. A 37-year-old woman was admitted with a one-day history of acute onset, right lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography showed swelling of the appendix, a pathological mass in the ileocolic region and oedematous pericolonic fat stranding. Emergency laparotomy via a McBurney incision revealed that the base of the appendix was swollen and intu

Appendiceal mucocele is a rare clinical entity characterized by dilatation of the appendiceal lumen due to abnormal mucinous secretion. It may be of inflammatory or tumoral origin. It may occur as a result of mucoceles, mucosal hyperplasia, mucinous cystadenoma or mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. Mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix is the most common form, although it manifests itself in many different clinical presentations. It is detected in 0.6% of appendectomy specimens. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult, and it is often detected at laparotomy. Despite existing reservations due to the risk

Urachal mucinous neoplasms are rare and include both villous adenomas and invasive adenocarcinomas. These mucinous tumours should be completely excised as they can demonstrate aggressive clinical behaviour, including the development of pseudomyxoma peritonei. We describe a 70-year-old woman who presented with a lower abdominal mass and received a diagnosis of a rare, complex urachal mucinous cystadenoma of undetermined malignant potential. This tumour demonstrated extensive mucin extravasation into perivesical soft tissue, but was not associated with pseudomyxoma peritonei or any malignancy. R

BACKGROUND: We aimed to assess the acute abdominal conditions due to appendiceal mucinous cystadenomas.
METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 11 patients with histopathologically confirmed appendiceal mucinous cystadenoma. Patient charts and data on patient demographics; clinical features; ultrasonography (US), colonoscopy and computed tomography (CT) findings; pathology reports; and operative and postoperative management were reviewed.
RESULTS: The incidence of appendiceal mucinous cystadenoma was 0.95% of all appendectomy specimens reviewed. In our review, there were 11 patients, five of w

Mucinous cystic tumors of the renal pelvis or pyelocaliceal system are extremely rare neoplasms and often mimic complicated renal cysts. Surgical resection is recommended due to the risk of malignant transformation. In September 2023, imaging revealed a cystic lesion measuring 106×93 mm in the right kidney of a 68-year-old male patient, reported as Bosniak type III. The patient underwent right radical nephrectomy. Pathological examination revealed a unilocular cystic lesion lined with mucinous epithelium showing no atypia. Immunohistochemically, epithelial cells were CDX2 positive and PAX8, GA

Mucinous ovarian cystadenomas are rare epithelial benign tumors that can reach significant sizes. They are often asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally during an ultrasound examination. We present two clinical cases of mucinous ovarian cystadenomas with abdominal distention. Complicated variants can mimic an acute surgical abdomen and often require the involvement of a multidisciplinary team in operative treatment. Timely diagnosis and treatment are of utmost importance to prevent complications and malignancy.
