Pharmacological risk factors associated with hospital readmission rates in a psychiatric cohort identified using prescriptome data mining.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide, over 14% of individuals hospitalized for psychiatric reasons have readmissions to hospitals within 30 days after discharge. Predicting patients at risk and leveraging accelerated interventions can reduce the rates of early readmission, a negative clinical outcome (i.e., a treatment failure) that affects the quality of life of patient. To implement individualized interventions, it is necessary to predict those individuals at highest risk for 30-day readmission. In this study, our aim was to conduct a data-driven investigation to find the pharmacological factors influencin

Retrospective Analysis of the Safety and Efficacy of Sugammadex Versus Neostigmine for the Reversal of Neuromuscular Blockade in Children.

BACKGROUND: Sugammadex, with its novel mechanism of action of encapsulation and noncompetitive binding of aminosteroid neuromuscular-blocking agents (rocuronium and vecuronium), may offer distinct advantage to pediatric patients where residual neuromuscular blockade may be poorly tolerated. Data describing its use in the pediatric population are limited, and no large-scale studies are available evaluating the occurrence of adverse event across the full spectrum of ages. We sought to measure the occurrence of adverse events, assess the severity and clinical significance of the events, and quant

A Retrospective Analysis Demonstrates That a Failure to Document Key Comorbid Diseases in the Anesthesia Preoperative Evaluation Associates With Increased Length of Stay and Mortality.

BACKGROUND: The introduction of electronic health records (EHRs) has helped physicians access relevant medical information on their patients. However, the design of EHRs can make it hard for clinicians to easily find, review, and document all of the relevant data, leading to documentation that is not fully reflective of the complete history. We hypothesized that the incidence of undocumented key comorbid diseases (atrial fibrillation [afib], congestive heart failure [CHF], chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], diabetes, and chronic kidney disease [CKD]) in the anesthesia preoperative e

Implementation Strategies Used in Effective Policies to Combat Obesity in Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Communities: Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: The effectiveness of obesity prevention or obesity reduction policies is co-determined by policy content, the implementation process, and contextual factors. This systematic review provides insight into implementation strategies used in whole-of-community obesity prevention policies aimed at changes in two types of outcomes: (1) a reduction in obesity/overweight prevalence, body mass index-related outcomes, and other weight-related outcomes, or (2) a change in nutrition behaviors, physical activity, and sedentary behaviors or screen time. We specifically examined implementation s

Iatrogenic risk factors associated with hospital readmission of elderly patients: A matched case-control study using a clinical data warehouse.

WHAT IS KNOWN: Hospital readmission within 30 days of patient discharge has become a standard to judge the quality of hospitalizations. It is estimated that 14% of the elderly, people over 75 years old or those over 65 with comorbidities, are at risk of readmission, of which 23% are avoidable. It may be possible to identify elderly patients at risk of readmission and implement steps to reduce avoidable readmissions. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify iatrogenic risk factors for readmission. The secondary objective was to evaluate the rate of drug-related readmissions (DRRs) amon

Occupational toxic inhalation injury to cleaning chemicals during the COVID-19 pandemic, including a case series for disinfectants aerosolized through spray and fog application.

The occupational burden of injury caused by exposure to cleaning chemicals during the pandemic is not well described. The objective of this study was to determine whether the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a change in the rate of toxic inhalation (TI) injuries following occupational exposure to cleaning chemicals. This retrospective study spanned from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2022, with January 1, 2020, designated as the pandemic start. TI cases were identified among workers' compensation claims filed in Washington State, USA using keyword text search and diagnostic and insurance codes

Logistics equipment condition monitoring and prediction based on digital twin and machine learning.

The use of digital twins is becoming a foundation for automation that will improve how industries handle and organize data about both virtual and physical things. It enables analyzing industrial data more seamlessly by merging the Internet of Things (IoT) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make sense of it. The growth of online retailers has made it harder for logistics professionals to keep people safe, make sure products are of superior quality, and run smoothly. The most recent advancements of digital twin (DT) have made it easier to create predictive maintenance. Using DT makes it easier

Prevalence of work related musculoskeletal disorders in Italian workers: is there an underestimation of the related occupational risk factors?

BACKGROUND: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) represent an important socio-economic burden. The current risk assessment and management involved in the ethiopathogenesis of WMSDs is based on observational tools and checklists, which have some limitations in terms of accuracy and reliability. The aim of this study was to assess WMSD prevalence and identify possible correlations with several socio-demographic and work-related variables in a large cohort representative of Italian workers in order to improve our understanding of the WMSD phenomenon. METHODS: This study includes data f
