Long-Chain Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorder Genes: A Comprehensive Genetic Database of LC-FAOD Variants, Genotypes, and Phenotypes.

Long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAODs) are characterized by the inability to metabolize long-chain fatty acids. Serious clinical manifestations occur, including cardiomyopathy, hypoglycemia, rhabdomyolysis, and liver failure. Confirming a diagnosis with genetic testing is complicated by the rarity of the disorders, genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity, and the high frequency of variants of uncertain significance. A new locus-specific database for variants in the six genes associated with LC-FAOD was established to collect and disseminate information about disease-associated varia

Genetic Perspective on the Relationship between Female Reproductive Traits, Exercise, and Bone Health Outcomes: Evidence from a National Database.

INTRODUCTION: Female reproductive traits influence bone mineral density (BMD) and fracture risks through estrogen exposure. However, these causal relationships remain unclear due to confounding. Understanding these relationships is crucial for osteoporosis prevention strategies. This study aimed to investigate the causal impact of age at natural menopause (ANM) and age at menarche (AAM) on BMD and osteoporosis risk, and to explore gene-exercise interactions influencing bone health in East Asian women. METHODS: We conducted two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) using 15 genetic variants for

Prevalence of Noncardiac and Genetic Abnormalities in Neonates Undergoing Cardiac Operations: Analysis of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database.

BACKGROUND: Among patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), the coexistence of noncardiac congenital anatomic abnormalities (NC), genetic abnormalities (GA), and syndromes (S) may influence therapeutic strategies and outcomes. The appreciated prevalence of these abnormalities has risen because increased screening and improved diagnostic precision enable identification of these comorbidities in a larger fraction of neonates with CHD. We examined the contemporary prevalence and distribution of NC/GA/S across diagnostic groups among neonates undergoing cardiac operations using a large nationa

Significant variance in genetic diversity among populations of Schistosoma haematobium detected using microsatellite DNA loci from a genome-wide database.

BACKGROUND: Urogenital schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma haematobium is widely distributed across Africa and is increasingly being targeted for control. Genome sequences and population genetic parameters can give insight into the potential for population- or species-level drug resistance. Microsatellite DNA loci are genetic markers in wide use by Schistosoma researchers, but there are few primers available for S. haematobium. METHODS: We sequenced 1,058,114 random DNA fragments from clonal cercariae collected from a snail infected with a single Schistosoma haematobium miracidium. We assem

Association of PRMT6 genetic polymorphism with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric mucosal atrophy was found using a data-driven approach with gene expression database.

BACKGROUND: Persistent infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) causes chronic gastric inflammation, gastric mucosal atrophy (GMA), intestinal metaplasia, and finally progression to gastric cancer. Genetic factors associated with GMA have been identified using a genome wide approach or candidate gene approach based on known functions. In this study, data-driven selection of candidate genes was conducted using publicly available databases, not based on known functions. METHOD: We hypothesized that the expression levels of some genes in the stomach may vary depending on single nucleotide
