In silico discovery and interaction analysis of a Datura stramonium defensin-like peptide targeting cancer-related receptors.

Cancer continues to be a major global health burden, with receptor tyrosine kinases such as EGFR, ERBB2, and VEGFR-3 being critical therapeutic targets due to their central roles in tumor growth, survival, and angiogenesis. Current therapies, while effective in some contexts, face limitations including resistance, toxicity, and high cost, highlighting the need for novel multi-target approaches. In this study, we report the isolation and computational characterization of a novel defensin-like peptide (DEFL) from Datura stramonium (GenBank accession KT371458). The peptide sequence encoded 74 ami

Fatal Datura poisoning: identification of atropine and scopolamine by high performance liquid chromatography/photodiode array/mass spectrometry.

A forensic method comprising solid phase extraction and HPLC analysis was developed for the detection and confirmation of atropine and scopolamine, the main toxic alkaloids of Datura stramonium and Datura ferox. This method allowed the direct coupling of an electrospray (ZMD) mass selective detector to the HPLC system. Under these conditions, atropine and scopolamine were well separated from other components and detected on the PDA (LOD = 1 microg/ml) and ZMD (LOD(atropine) = 10 pg/ml; LOD(scopolamine) = 100 pg/ml) detectors. Four geographically isolated populations of each of D. stramonium an

Integrated serum metabolomics and machine learning for classification of Datura stramonium L. exposure using plant part-specific metabolic signatures.

Datura stramonium L. (DS) poisoning remains a significant toxicological concern in clinical and forensic contexts. In forensic casework, leaf ingestion is mainly associated with accidental exposure, whereas seed ingestion is more frequently linked to suspected intentional poisoning. However, conventional toxicological analysis based on tropane alkaloids cannot distinguish between these exposure sources, limiting forensic interpretation. This study developed a serum metabolomics strategy integrating machine learning to viably discriminate between seed- and leaf-derived Datura exposure using met
