Extraction of benzoylurea pesticides from tea and fruit juices using deep eutectic solvents.

In this study, low-density deep eutectic solvent combined with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was applied to the extraction of five benzoylurea insecticides (BUs, including diflubenzuron, triflumuron, hexaflumuron, flufenoxuron, and chlorfluazuron) from beverages. Then the extracted and concentrated samples were analyzed and detected using the high-performance liquid chromatography combined with an ultraviolet detector. The DESs were synthesized by [P14,6,6,6]Cl as hydrogen bond acceptor and tetradecyl alcohol as hydrogen bond donor, and then characterized by Fourier transform infrar

Deep Eutectic Solvent-Type Mixture as a Green Catalyst in the Solvent-Free Cycloaddition of CO2 and Epoxides.

A sustainable approach for CO2 valorization through cycloaddition with epoxides is proposed to synthesize cyclic carbonates, recognized as compounds in green chemistry and industrial applications. A novel deep eutectic solvent (DES)-type catalyst, comprising a mixture of tetrabutylammonium iodide and levulinic acid in a 1:1.5 molar ratio, is introduced and thoroughly characterized. This mixture demonstrates efficiency under mild and solvent-free conditions, providing improved selectivity and conversion rates compared to other related catalysts. This catalyst system (1.4 mol%) operates at atmos

Ternary deep eutectic solvent-mediated direct amidation of carboxylic acids.

A ternary deep eutectic solvent (DES) has been developed as a multifunctional platform for the direct amidation of carboxylic acids. Composed of choline chloride, urea and imidazole in a 1 : 2 : 1 molar ratio, the DES serves as the reaction medium, while imidazole is proposed to act as a recoverable acyl-transfer mediator. A broad range of primary amides were obtained under organic-solvent-free reaction conditions, with straightforward product isolation and no chromatographic purification. On a 100 g scale, product yields remained above 90% over seven consecutive runs. This combination of simp

A novel acidic deep eutectic solvent for sustainable and efficient coumarin synthesis.

A novel acidic deep eutectic solvent (ADES) has been developed as an efficient and sustainable alternative to traditional solvents and catalysts in organic synthesis. The ADES was synthesized through a simple one-pot procedure involving benzyl chloride, 2-(dimethylamino)ethanol, and p-toluenesulfonic acid, yielding a homogeneous liquid. Structural and compositional characterization was performed using FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The catalytic performance of the synthesized ADES was evaluated in the Pechmann condensation for the synthesis of coumarins. The reaction proceeded under mild condition

Novel ternary deep eutectic solvent fractionation for effective utilization of willow.

A novel ternary deep eutectic solvent (TDES), consisting of zinc chloride, ethylene glycol and alpha hydroxy carboxylic acids (i.e., glycolic acid, citric acid and malic acid), was first proposed to effectively fractionate and convert willow (Salix matsudana cv. Zhuliu) into fermentable sugar. In particular, the zinc chloride/ethylene glycol/malic acid (ZnCl2/EG/MA) TDES system showed remarkable fractionation performance with 91.66 % xylan and 90.12 % lignin removals at 130 °C for 1.5 h, resulting in 96.01 % glucose yield in the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis stage. Moreover, the regenerated

A Self-Healing Conductive Elastomer Based on a Polymerizable Deep Eutectic Solvent.

Conductive elastomers are extensively used in electronics; however, they are prone to mechanical damage, have shortened service life, and cause environmental pollution and resource waste under the influence of external factors. Therefore, conductive elastomers with rapid self-healing properties are crucial for solving these problems. To that end, a conductive elastomer based on a polymerizable deep eutectic solvent as the matrix is developed in this study. The contents of certain small molecules and conductive particles are adjusted to yield a conductive elastomer with excellent comprehensive

Deep eutectic solvent-assisted extraction of chitosan for polyethylene microplastic coagulation.

Microplastic pollution has emerged as an important environmental challenge. Among existing remediation strategies, coagulation-flocculation offers a cost-effective and scalable approach. However, the reliance on conventional chemical coagulants raises concerns regarding sludge generation and secondary environmental impacts. Chitosan has therefore attracted interest as a bio-based coagulant, but the environmental advantages of its use are closely dependent on its extraction process. This study investigates the use of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as alternative extractants for chitosan producti

Gelation behavior and supramolecular chirality of a BTA derivative in a deep eutectic solvent.

As novel solvents, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are non-toxic, easily producible and biocompatible, which is attractive for eutectogel fabrication. In this work, a benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) derivative (substituted by three hexanoic acid) was selected to prepare a supramolecular gel in a suitable DES composed of choline chloride and phenylacetic acid molecules. The obtained eutectogel exhibited higher stability than that produced in conventional solvents. The gel microstructure was composed of spiral fiber networks as confirmed from atomic force microscopy and scanning electron micros

Study on the desulfurization performance of iron/ethanolamine/deep eutectic solvent system.

Deep eutectic solvent (DES) was applied as the solvent of iron/alcohol amine system, and the prepared iron/ethanolamine/DES system was found to be a good desulfurizer for H2S removal. The absorbents were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The iron/ethanolamine/DES system showed a significantly enhanced desulfurization performance compared with DES solution of iron or alcohol amine separately. Besides, the absorbents showed relatively stable desulfurization performance, which could keep a high H2S removal efficiency in a wide temperature range from 30-90°C. The iron/ethan

Structural Features of β-Cyclodextrin Solvation in the Deep Eutectic Solvent, Reline.

The inherently amphiphilic nature of native cyclodextrins (CDs) determines their peculiar molecular encapsulation features, enabling applications such as targeted drug nanodelivery, aroma protection, etc. On the contrary, it may also lead to poor solubility in water and other organic solvents and to potentially detrimental flocking in these media, thus posing limitations to more extensive usage. Here we use small angle X-ray scattering to show that deep eutectic solvent reline (1:2 choline chloride:urea) succeeds in dissolving large amounts of β-CD (at least 800 mg/mL, compared with the solubi

[Deep eutectic solvents modified reversed-phase liquid chromatography for the separation of natural products].

The composition of natural products is usually very complex. During the separation of natural products, high loading capacity and satisfactory chromatographic resolution are often hardly achieved. To address this limitation, various modifiers were added in the mobile phase to alter the chromatographic behavior. Here, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were chosen to accomplish this objective on C18 column. Changes in retention factor, overloaded peak shape and adsorption capacity were systematically investigated and interpreted. The application potential of DESs in the separation of natural product

Deep eutectic solvents as emerging carriers for antihyperlipidemic drugs: current trends and future perspectives.

The therapeutic effectiveness of the most antihyperlipidemic drugs, particularly Biopharmaceutics Classification system Class II drugs like statins, is severely limited by their low aqueous solubility and resulting low and variable oral bioavailability (e.g. ∼5% for simvastatin). Deep Eutectic solvents and Therapeutic Deep Eutectic System are explored in this review as an environmentally friendly and innovative next-generation platform designed to overcome these fundamental biopharmaceutical limitations. These systems function as good solubilizers, improving the dissolution rate and the thermo

Quaternary Ammonium Salt-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents As Alternative Base Lubricants: Interfacial Tribological Performance.

As functional solvents, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been widely applied in various fields. However, their application in the lubrication field remains in an exploratory stage. Existing studies are often limited by directly transplanting formulations from other domains into lubrication without a thorough investigation of formulation design. To address this gap, this study focuses on hydrogen bond acceptor quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) as a research object. By introducing long alkyl chains and dual-long-chain substituents and incorporating the hydrogen bond donor menthol (DL), three no

From Oilseed Waste to High-Value Bioactives: Deep Eutectic Solvents as Sustainable Refining Media.

The global oil-processing industry generates substantial quantities of by-products and secondary streams, including oilseed cakes, pomaces, hulls, and wastewaters, which remain largely underutilized despite being rich sources of high-value bioactive compounds. The development of sustainable strategies for the valorization of these residues is increasingly recognized as a key component of circular bioeconomy and biorefinery frameworks. In this context, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have attracted considerable attention as a new generation of designer solvents owing to their tunable physicochemi

Scavenger-controlled activation of lignin in microwave-assisted deep eutectic solvents for antioxidant nanoparticles.

Lignin holds promise as a renewable feedstock for functional materials, but its conversion into well-defined nanomaterials is constrained by the heterogeneity of conventional activation. While phenolic scavengers have been employed to suppress undesired recondensation, their role has traditionally been regarded as static. Herein, we report a scavenger- controlled strategy for converting alkali lignin (AL) into antioxidant lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) via microwave‑assisted deep eutectic solvent (DES) treatment combined with in‑situ scavenger addition. The function of ferulic acid (FA) is critic

Sustainable utilization of cottonseed meal: Integrated protein extraction and detoxification using deep eutectic solvents.

The growing demand for sustainable proteins has highlighted cottonseed meal (CSM) as a promising high-protein byproduct. Addressing the challenge of valorizing the annual global production of over 10 million tons of CSM in cottonseed processing, this study investigated the use of choline chloride-ethylene glycol deep eutectic solvent (DES-4) for efficient protein extraction from CSM while reducing toxic gossypol content. Through Box-Behnken response surface optimization, we established optimal conditions (56 °C/3 h/40% water) that achieved 86.85% protein yield while remarkably reducing bound g

Green extraction and IC analysis of trace impurities in TATB through deep eutectic solvents.

1,3,5-trinamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) as an important insensitive high explosive has excellent safety performance due to strong hydrogen bonds. Ionic impurities including sulfate ions (SO42-), nitrate ions (NO3-) and chloride ions (Cl-) formed during the preparation of TATB have negative effects on TATB-based explosives. However, strong hydrogen bonds result in extremely low solubility of TATB in traditional solvents, which poses a huge obstacle to extract and detect the impurities in TATB for quality control. In this study, a green extraction method based deep eutectic solvent (CS-1) w

Streamlined regeneration of cathode materials from spent lithium-ion batteries with deep eutectic solvents.

With the increasing generation of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), there is an urgent need for efficient and environmentally friendly recycling methods. Compared to traditional pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) offer advantages for recycling valuable metals from spent LIBs, including better biocompatibility and high recovery efficiency. However, complex procedures, long processing times, and solvent regeneration remain challenges. To address these limitations, we propose a streamlined recycling approach using a DES synthesised from guanidine h
