INTRODUCTION: Diagnostic delays in alopecia areata (AA) are often preventable and may be compounded by factors that have not been fully elucidated. Our objective was to identify potential associations and to characterize diagnostic delay of AA that extends beyond 1 year.

We report a 41-year-old woman presented with a 4-year history of an exuberant, erythematous tumor, with necrotic appearance of the right distal toe. The histopathology examination showed a nodular-ulcerative melanoma, with bone infiltration. Widespread metastases including the right ovary, peritoneum, and right breast were present. The patient was misdiagnosed for almost 4 years as having onychomycosis, ingrown nail and pyogenic granuloma.

Delay in the diagnosis of melanoma was defined as the interval in months from the patient's report of first noticing a suspected lesion to the date of the removal of a histologically confirmed melanoma. 216 patients were included in our study. From the medical files of 164 consecutive patients who underwent surgical treatment for a unilateral acoustic neuroma between 1980 and 1992, we collected data on the delay until the diagnosis was made. OBJECTIVE: To describe the presenting symptoms, outcomes, and time to diagnosis of ehrlichiosis cases treated at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients with ehrlichiosis who were treated at Mayo Clinic in Florida from January 1, 2018, to November 1, 2021. Ehrlichiosis was diagnosed via positive serologic or polymerase chain reaction tests. Swyer-James-MacLeod Syndrome is a rare obliterative lung disease typically caused by childhood infection resulting in arrested pulmonary development. Imaging findings include unilateral hyperlucency on chest x-ray, and hyperlucency, hypovascularity and expiratory gas trapping on computed tomography. We present a hereditary coproporphyria patient with acute psychiatric symptoms and skin lesions initially misdiagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and later developed hyperactive delirium and atrial fibrillation requiring intensive care unit admission.
