The bond strength of a highly cross-linked denture tooth to denture base polymers: a comparative study.

PURPOSE: This study compared shear bond strength and type of bond failure between a highly cross-linked tooth and different denture base polymers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-linked denture teeth were bonded to either a heat-, an auto-, a microwave-polymerized denture base resin or a relatively new injection-molded, microwave-polymerizable polyurethane-based resin. Six experimental groups were established for each of the shear and peel tests. In four of the groups, teeth were used as received and bonded to each of the denture base resins; in the remaining two groups, they were treated with d

Rare Disorders: Diagnosis and Therapeutic Planning for Patients Seeking Orthodontic Treatment.

The available literature on the orthodontic treatment of patients with rare disorders is extremely scarce. The aim of this study was to analyze the diagnosis and orthodontic treatment of a group of 94 individuals with rare diseases, referred for orthodontic evaluation to a university special care dentistry center (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain). We created a control group of 94 systemically healthy individuals, paired by sex and age range. For all participants, we recorded their dental and skeletal abnormalities, oromotor dysfunctions and the characteristics of their orthodontic

Effectiveness of traditional band and loop space maintainer vs 3D-printed space maintainer following the loss of primary teeth: a randomized clinical trial.

This study evaluates the efficacy of 3D-printed band and loop space maintainers (3D-BLSMs) to mitigate concerns caused by early primary tooth loss in children when compared to their conventional equivalents. Over 9 months, 62 participants aged 6 to 12 years participated in a randomized clinical study. This study evaluated their failure rates (de-cementation, debonding, solder breakage, loop breakage, band breakage, and abutment tooth fracture), gingival health, and patient overall satisfaction. Random assignments were made to place the participants in two groups: traditional band and loop spac

Clinical Performance of Minimally Invasive Monolithic Ultratranslucent Zirconia Veneers: A Case Series up to Five Years of Follow-up.

There is a lack of reports in the literature on the long-term clinical performance of ultratranslucent zirconia, especially considering its use in manufacturing monolithic veneers. The purpose of this case series is to describe the aesthetic treatment steps of three patients with minimally invasive ultratranslucent zirconia veneers and to report the clinical findings up to five years. Three patients (woman: 2, man: 1; mean age: 30 years) unsatisfied with their dental aesthetics sought dental treatment. The treatment plan involved cementing ultratranslucent zirconia veneers. Air-abrasion was pe

Prevention in orthodontics--a review.

Increasing numbers of patients are being orthodontically treated by specialist and general dental practitioners, after postgraduate courses and clinical assistantships. The potential for iatrogenic damage to the teeth and supporting structures has, therefore, also increased. This paper examines these problems and outlines measures for their prevention.

Zirconia restorations: An American Dental Association Clinical Evaluators Panel survey.

BACKGROUND: Zirconia is a relatively new dental material used for indirect dental restorations. Little is known about how dental practitioners are using this material in their practice. METHODS: A survey on zirconia restorations was developed and administered electronically through e-mail communications to the American Dental Association Clinical Evaluators (ACE) Panel on August 31, 2020. Reminders were sent to nonrespondents, and the survey closed 2 weeks after the launch date. RESULTS: When using zirconia for a restoration, respondents choose it to restore natural teeth (99%) more often th

Orthodontic treatment of a mandibular incisor fenestration resulting from a broken retainer.

This article describes the orthodontic relapse with mandibular incisor fenestration in a 36-year-old man who had undergone orthodontic treatment 21 years previously. The patient reported that his mandibular 3 × 3 bonded retainer had been partially debonded and broken 4 years earlier. The mandibular left lateral incisor remained bonded to the retainer and received the entire load of the incisors; consequently, there was extreme labial movement of the root, resulting in dental avulsion. As part of the treatment, the root was repositioned lingually using a titanium-molybdenum segmented archwire f

Deep Margin Elevation and Lithium Disilicate Overlay Restoration of an Endodontically Treated Molar: A Case Report.

Restoring endodontically treated teeth with deep subgingival margins is challenging due to difficulties in isolation, moisture control, and adhesive cementation. Conventional approaches such as surgical crown lengthening are invasive and may compromise periodontal support. Deep margin elevation (DME) offers a conservative alternative by relocating the cervical margin coronally using composite resin. This case report describes a 38-year-old patient with a repeatedly debonded partial indirect restoration on tooth 47, which had previously undergone endodontic treatment. After removal of the exist

Bonding porcelain laminate veneer provisional restorations: An experimental study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Minimal tooth preparation is required for porcelain laminate veneers, but an interim restoration is anticipated by patients to protect their teeth against thermal insult, chemical irritation, and to provide esthetics. Cement remaining after the removal of the provisional restoration can impair the etching quality of the tooth surface and the fit and final bonding of the porcelain laminate veneer. PURPOSE: This in vitro study inspected the tooth surface for remaining debris from cement after removal of a provisional restoration. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Seventy-two extracte

Managing Complex Malocclusion Following Childhood Odontoma: An Interdisciplinary Approach.

Loss of the maxillary anterior teeth in childhood following an odontoma can set the stage for a complex malocclusion with enduring effects on facial esthetics, function, and psychosocial health. We report the management of a 15-year-old boy who presented 8 years after odontoma excision with an anterior maxillary defect, rightward dental midline deviation, crowding, and a crossbite. Treatment combined passive self-ligating brackets with customised torque, nickel-titanium open-coil springs for controlled space regaining, and an infrazygomatic crest temporary anchorage device to drive asymmetric
