Four commercially available disinfectants were tested and the dimensional stability and detail reproduction of impressions and their resultant casts were measured according to ANSI/ISO specifications. Results showed that alginate impressions immersed in chlorhexidine exhibited considerable dimensional change if not poured immediately. Moreover, alginate impressions soaked in a paraldehyde agent (Virkon) for more than 2 minutes produced casts of inferior surface quality whilst those sprayed and left in contact with phenol derivatives (C&J Spray) for 30 minutes resulted in casts which demonstrat

The treatment of infants with trisomy 21 (TS21) with a myostimulation plate can improve their development and quality of life. The manufacture of these plates requires an accurate cast of the maxilla, and their efficacy relies on their stability and retention. As such, the quality of the impression is a determining factor. The lack of commercially available stock trays for infants with TS21 creates difficulties, including inadequate impression quality and the risk of inhaling impression material. The present technique simplifies impression making for infants with TS21 from 3 months of age to w

The gag reflex can be a normal, healthy defense mechanism to prevent foreign objects from entering the trachea. During certain dental procedures, however, gagging can greatly complicate the final result, especially during the maxillary complete denture final impression. A modification can be made to the maxillary custom acrylic resin tray to aid in securing a clinically acceptable elastomeric final impression. This modification involves forming a vacuum chamber at the posterior extent of the custom tray to which a saliva ejector tip is embedded. When the saliva ejector is connected to the low-

The present study aimed to examine the effect of custom tray designs on the displacement of mobile tooth and local impression pressures during the impression procedure, using partially edentulous simulation models with six anterior teeth containing a mobile tooth prepared in previous studies. The custom trays were designed by altering the thickness of the respective spaces on the labial and lingual sides of the remaining tooth arch. In previous studies, the mobile tooth was displaced in the labial direction and local impression pressures of the mobile tooth were greater against the lingual sid

A great preparation is only as good as the impression and die made of it. Attention to every detail is necessary for a successful clinical result. By observing the clinical results, each individual dentist's experience will show the observant operator which technique works best. By combining experience, attention to detail, and patience, it is possible to achieve great fitting, adjustment-free esthetic dentistry.

This article describes a sectional stock tray system developed by the authors for making preliminary impressions. It may be used not only for individual dental arches but also for patients with microstomia or constricted oral openings. This system allows many combinations of right and left tray sizes and forms to be assembled into a well-fitted anatomically-conforming tray in spite of individual anatomic discrepancies.

Systemic scleroderma is a relatively rare, autoimmune, chronic, and debilitating disease, and its etiology is unknown. The disease is characterized by vasomotor disturbances causing skin and mucosa hardening, hand stiffness, excess production of collagen fibers, and impairment of the internal organs associated with the immune system. Extreme mouth-opening limitation is one of the symptoms in the oral cavity, and compromises dental intervention. One of the fundamental steps when performing a dental procedure is dental arch impression. In the presented clinical case, limited mouth opening hinder
