Introduction The oral cavity hosts diverse microorganisms affected by factors like pH, temperature, and oxygen levels, influencing disease potential. Dentists manage oral diseases and improve aesthetics using durable restorations. Understanding periodontal response to crowns and fixed partial dentures (FPDs) is essential for effective treatment. This study aims to assess the impact of FPDs on periodontal health by comparing microbial colonies in individuals with and without FPDs. The hypothesis is that there will be no difference in microbial flora and gingival health between the two groups. M

OBJECTIVE: The objective was to in-vitro evaluate the mode of failure of abutments supporting fixed partial dentures (FPDs) via different retention techniques.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six implants with diameter and length of 4.5 and 13 mm, respectively, were used to prepare 18 samples of FPDs. Based on the variations on abutment's design, the FPDs were divided into three groups: Group A is cement-based retention; Group B is screw-based retention; and Group C is multiunit screw-based retention. Using a chewing simulator, cyclic loads of 1,250,000 load cycles with the load of 70N were app

PURPOSE: The influence of resilient support of abutment teeth on the fracture resistance of all-ceramic three-unit fixed partial dentures (FPDs) was tested in this study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three groups (n = 8) of glass-infiltrated, alumina-based, all-ceramic FPDs that were adhesively bonded to human molar teeth were investigated. In control group A, teeth that were rigidly inserted in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin were used for thermocycling and mechanical loading (TCML), as well as for fracture testing. In group B, TCML was conducted on teeth that had their roots covered with a p

This study evaluated the failure load of different zirconia-based all-ceramic fixed partial dentures (FPD) before and after artificial aging. Forty-eight zirconia frameworks for three-unit FPDs were fabricated using different manufacturing systems [(DCS), Procera (Nobel Biocare) and Cerec inLab (Sirona)], veneered using Vita VM9 (Vita Zahnfabrik) opaque ceramic and conventionally cemented on human teeth. The restorations were divided according to the system used for manufacturing the frameworks into three groups of 16 specimens each (DCS, Procera and Vita YZ-Cerec). Half of each group was arti

BACKGROUND: Comparatively few studies with at least 5 years of follow-up are available that describe the use of implants in prosthetic rehabilitation of partially edentulous patients. Randomized, controlled clinical studies that evaluated the effect of different surface designs of screw-shaped implants on the outcome of treatment are also sparse.
OBJECTIVE: To determine, in a prospective randomized, controlled clinical trial, the outcome of restorative therapy in periodontitis-susceptible patients who, following basic periodontal therapy, had been restored with implants with either a machined

The major disadvantage of cement-retained implant-supported fixed partial dentures (FPDs) is difficulty in retrievability. The retentive strengths of the provisional luting agents usually employed in these cases are therefore an important consideration. This study evaluated the cement failure loads of 4 provisional luting agents used for the cementation of FPDs supported by 2 implants or 4 implants. Nogenol luting agent exhibited the lowest retentive values in both types of FPD. ImProv proved to be the most retentive cement of all tested. Temp Bond NE and Temp Bond presented significantly diff

The aim of this study was to evaluate load-bearing capacity and wear performance of experimental short fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) and conventional lithium-disilicate CAD/CAM fabricated fixed partial dentures (FPDs). Two groups (n = 12/group) of three-unit CAD/CAM fabricated posterior FPDs were made. The first group used experimental SFRC blocks, and the second group fabricated from lithium-disilicate (IPS e.max CAD). All FPDs were luted on a zirconia testing jig with dual-curing resin cement. Half of FPDs per group were quasi-statically loaded until fracture. The other half experienced

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Completely veneered zirconia ceramic (ZC) fixed partial dentures (FPDs) have been reported to have a higher incidence of ceramic chipping than the standard metal-ceramic FPDs. However, data from comparative long-term studies are sparse.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the long-term survival, chipping-free survival, and success of ceramic-veneered high noble metal alloy (HN), base metal alloy (cobalt-chromium alloy) (CC), and ZC FPDs and to isolate risk factors for the incidence of failure, veneer chipping, and overall complications.

Bone atrophy occurs after tooth extraction in the posterior mandible, placing the mandibular canal and its neural, arterial, and venous contents closer to the osseous facial aspect and the coronal crest. This proximity places the structure in danger of damage when dental implants are surgically placed to support fixed or removable prostheses. Several options are available to treat these areas for implant-supported fixed and removable complete or partial dentures. Osseous grafting and ridge expansion are surgical options that enable acceptance of standard sized dental implants but have serious

UNLABELLED: The treatment of traumatic injuries can be difficult, especially when the patient's expectations are too high or unreasonable. Such cases require extremely clear communication with the patient before beginning the case, including an explanation of the final results, based on the patient's goals. Taking over a case from another colleague adds more complications and requires that close attention is paid to the reason for the original dissatisfaction between the former dentist and patient to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Clinically, patients with thin, fragile gingiva are extreme

This study is an analysis of fixed partial dentures (FPDs), 8 units or more, that failed or suffered severe complications within the first 2 years after cementation. The material consists of claims to the Swedish Guarantee Insurance for Fixed Prosthodontics. Claim reports, radiographs, etc. were available. Over a 6-month period, 36 FPDs were sampled, 34 of which were made by general practitioners. The sampling resulted in 41 complications in 26 maxillary and 10 mandibular FPDs, 29 of which were made in metal-ceramics. The mean extension was 10.9 units, with an abutment/pontic ratio of 1.4; 40.

This study was conducted to determine whether fixed partial dentures supported by dental implants provide an acceptable alternative to conventional removable partial dentures in patients with Kennedy class I or class II edentulous conditions. The acceptability of the new treatment will be based on success rates, impact on the health of the remaining dentition, masticatory performance, patient satisfaction, and maintenance care and cost. The study was planned also to provide comparisons between two designs commonly used by dentists for fabricating removable partial dentures. The designs differe

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Tooth-to-implant-supported fixed partial dentures (TI-FPDs) are a valuable treatment option for the shortened dental arch. For naturally healthy abutment teeth or abutment teeth with small restorations, inlays or adhesive wings present - as opposed to complete crowns - minimally invasive FPD retainer elements. Data on TI-FPDs with minimally invasive retainer designs are sparse.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare test forces correlating with fracture (ultimate load, Fu) or formation of initial damage (force at first damage, F1d) and the failure mod

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the usefulness of machine learning techniques, specifically supervised and unsupervised learning, for assessing the cementation condition between a fixed partial denture (FPD) and its abutment using a resonance frequency analysis (RFA) system.
METHODS: An in vitro mandibular model was used with a single crown and three-unit bridge made of a high-gold alloy. Two cementation conditions for the single crown and its abutment were set: cemented and uncemented. Four cementation conditions were set for the bridge and abutments: both crowns were firmly cemented,

Dental implants have become an accepted treatment modality for aging patients with either completely or partially edentulous arches. However, growing patients with congenitally missing primary and/or permanent teeth often need dental implant treatment, even before puberty, for optimum functional and/or psychosocial development. From a developmental perspective, dental implants cannot accompany the physiologic differentiation of the alveolar bone because of the difference in anchorage between an osseointegrated dental implant and a tooth in bone. Nevertheless, reports in the literature suggest
