STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Current designs of fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) have a limited lifespan, failing mainly through veneer-fiber delamination, debonding, and fracture.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to validate a new inlay-retained 2-unit cantilevered RBFDP with an optimized cavity and fiber layout proposed in a previous study by using simulated occlusal loading.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The absence of a tooth in the esthetic zone can cause emotional and social distress. The use of minimally invasive and visually pleasing lithium disilicate resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) may be a suitable option for replacing a missing maxillary incisor. However, the available literature on lithium disilicate cantilever RBFDPs is limited.
PURPOSE: This retrospective multicenter study assessed the survival and success rates of lithium disilicate anterior cantilever RBFDPs with an average follow-up period of 3 years up to 9 years.

The treatment of hypodontia is a constant challenge to the dental profession but with the advent of bone grafting and implantology, and adhesive dental techniques, we now can offer more alternatives than simply the prosthetic replacement of the missing units. This case report demonstrates the use of modern adhesive techniques to provide a fixed, rather than removable solution.

Many dental practitioners do not use adhesive bridges because of concerns over high failure rates. Techniques for these restorations should be based on the fundamental principles of bridge design which require rigid, accurately fitting frameworks and careful control of the occlusion. The abutments generally require little if any tooth preparation. Greater security will result from more extensive coverage of abutment teeth: the routine use of relative axial tooth movement is a predictable method for creating the space that this approach requires.
