Educating Future Nurses to Address Nursing's Image-Prestige Gap.

BACKGROUND: Public perceptions of nursing may shape students' understanding of the profession and nurse educators' approaches to professional identity formation. Although nurses are often viewed as caring and socially valuable, this image may not translate into recognition of nursing as autonomous, knowledge-based, and prestigious. PURPOSE: This study examined public perceptions of nursing by distinguishing professional image from comparative prestige and identifying implications for nursing education. METHODS: A convenience sample of 280 adults completed an anonymous questionnaire assessing

25 Years of Progress: ELNEC and AACN Transforming Palliative Nursing Education.

In the year 2000, leaders with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing joined with Dr. Betty Ferrell and her colleagues at City of Hope to address gaps in how nurses are educated to care for patients at the end-of-life and their families. The collaborators launched a far-reaching train-the-trainer initiative, the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC), which resulted in competencies, guidelines, and nursing curricula developed to prepare nurses to provide evidence-based, skilled, and compassionate palliative care. The 25th anniversary of ELNEC celebrates the tremendous effort

Workaholism, Mindfulness, and Work-Related Quality of Life Among Nursing Educators in Saudi Nursing Colleges: A Multisite Cross-Sectional Study.

Workaholism has been widely examined among employees across occupational groups, but limited empirical evidence is available on its association with work-related quality of life (WRQoL) among nursing educators. This study examined whether mindfulness statistically mediated the association between workaholism and WRQoL among nursing educators. A multisite observational study using a cross-sectional and correlational design was conducted among nursing educators from four nursing colleges in Saudi Arabia using consecutive and snowball sampling. Between February and July 2025, data were collected

Design and psychometric properties of an instrument to evaluate nursing students' perceptions of discrimination by nurse educators: a protocol for a mixed-method study.

INTRODUCTION: Perceived discrimination by nurse educators is a harmful phenomenon in nursing education that influences nursing students in both classroom and clinical settings. It is associated with psychological distress, reduced learning outcomes, feelings of hopelessness and higher rates of attrition. There is a need to identify the dimensions of discrimination for developing strategies to promote educational justice. This research aims to develop and test the psychometric properties of an instrument to evaluate nursing students' perceptions and experiences of discrimination by nurse educat

Attitudes, practices, and role of nurses in the use of mammography.

This research examined the mammography behavior of 145 nurses as well as their patient teaching practices about mammography. A subsample of 100 were identified as compliant or noncompliant with mammogram screening guidelines. Nurses who complied and those who did not comply were not significantly different on variables of age, licensure, education level, or clinical practice setting. Nor was a positive family history associated with compliance. In patient teaching about mammography, only 25% of nurses reported teaching. The vast majority of nurses, 75%, rarely or only occasionally did the pati

Nurses' general attitudes and caregiving-specific perceptions toward the oldest-old: A nationwide survey.

BACKGROUND: Despite the growing population of older adults worldwide, nurses may harbor negative attitudes toward older patients that might risk patient safety. Most studies have investigated general attitudes toward older adults. Only a few have focused on nurses' perceptions of caring for older patients, and there has been little focus on the oldest-old (aged ≥80 years), an age group that is particularly affected by negative attitudes. Emerging models to combat this issue suggest that education about aging and interaction with older adults are key factors. These models have primarily been ev

Impacts of extrinsic and intrinsic factors on psychiatric nurses' spiritual care attitudes.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Because the definition of spirituality is complex and has cultural and individual dimensions, it is important to be receptive to individual differences in the perception of spirituality during clinical practice of mental health nurses. Although enhancing spiritual care is beneficial to patients diagnosed with mental illnesses, the extrinsic (e.g., education) and intrinsic factors that would affect nurses' attitudes towards spiritual care have not been investigated. Notwithstanding the known impact of certain intrinsic factors (e.g., personality-related) of mental

Implications of Federal Nutrition Policy Changes for Maternal and Child Health.

Signed into law on July 4, 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) fundamentally changes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the largest food assistance program in the United States and a key support for maternal and child food and nutrition security. The OBBBA reduces SNAP eligibility, expands work requirements, eliminates nutrition education, prevents future benefit increases, and shifts significant costs to states. Combined, these changes may have a direct negative effect on women and children who rely on SNAP for adequate nutrition and may also reduce their access to

Development of standards of care for Canadian cellular therapy nurses.

Cellular therapy nursing is a rapidly expanding specialty, driven by multiple recent advancements in cellular and immunotherapy technologies. While the Foundation for Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (FACT) has established standards outlining education expectations for nurses working in this complex field, a review of the current literature identified a notable absence in the development and implementation of comprehensive, evidence-based Canadian nursing standards specific to cellular therapy. This gap highlights the need for further development of standardized competencies that support nur

INTRODUCTION: Patients receiving ECMO are a high-acuity population, and the demand for a highly skilled nursing workforce to manage the associated complexity and risks continues to grow. Despite a growing emphasis on ECMO education in both academic and clinical settings, evidence-based educational approaches tailored to nursing professionals are limited. Perceived Competence in Nutrition Care Among Hospital Nurses and Its Associated Factors: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background/Objectives: Hospital malnutrition is a prevalent and clinically significant issue associated with prolonged hospital stays, increased complications, and mortality. Although nurses play a key role in monitoring nutritional status and delivering nutrition care, many lack confidence and do not perceive nutrition care as part of their primary responsibilities. This study assessed nurses' self-perceived nutrition care competence, identified associated factors, and examined their objectively scored nutrition knowledge alongside self-reported nutrition care competence. Simulation- vs. Didactic-Based Learning for Rehabilitation Nurses Caring for Patients With Autonomic Dysreflexia.

PURPOSE: Autonomic dysreflexia (AD) is associated with spinal cord injury, manifesting in symptoms of high blood pressure, bradycardia, headache, diaphoresis, and anxiety. Nurses often manage these symptoms; thus, nursing knowledge of AD is crucial. The purpose of this study was to improve AD nursing knowledge while exploring differences between simulation and didactic learning in nurse education. DESIGN AND METHODS: This prospective pilot study used two types of learning (simulation vs. didactic) to determine if one was superior to the other regarding nursing knowledge of AD. Nurses were giv
