Assessment of the knowledge, attitudes and practices level on toxoplasmosis and its seroprevalence in selected high-risk groups in Cebu, Philippines.

Toxoplasmosis, a zoonotic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, poses significant health risks, especially to high-risk individuals who are exposed to cats. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to toxoplasmosis and determine its seroprevalence among selected high-risk groups in Cebu, Philippines-specifically veterinary students, veterinary personnel, and cat owners. A total of 416 participants completed a structured questionnaire evaluating their demographics, exposure history, and KAP levels, while 250 underwent further rapid serological testing for

Implementing Genomic Medicine in Primary Care: A Convergent Mixed Method Case Study.

PURPOSE: Despite the growing interest in implementing genomic medicine into primary care, numerous barriers persist. Herein we present formative work conducted at three primary care clinics to identify barriers to implementation as part of a state-funded genomic medicine initiative. METHODS: A convergent mixed-methods case study was conducted across three family practice clinics participating in the Alabama Genomic Health Initiative. Quantitative, cross-sectional surveys evaluated clinic personnel attitudes, implementation climate, and feasibility. Additionally, qualitative, semi-structured i

Program personnel perspectives and outcomes of the Minnesota Addiction Recovery Initiative (MARI) Safe Station program: A fire station-based substance use deflection program.

INTRODUCTION: The Minnesota Addiction Recovery Initiative (MARI) Safe Station program, launched in April 2023, provides a self-referral pathway for individuals with substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder. Operating through a coalition of government and community organizations, MARI Safe Station uses fire stations as access points for immediate support provided by certified peer recovery specialists (CPRSs). The program also emphasizes community outreach and harm-reduction efforts such as distributing naloxone and other supplies and delivering training to reduce provider stigma.

Their adjustment was followed for one to three years. Information was gathered through questionnaires and interviews with parents, children, and classroom teachers on how successful and to what extent the children had been mainstreamed, as well as what physical, academic, and social problems were encountered. Patterns and trends of relative educational abilities and disabilities of children with spina bif

Synthesizing Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and Deaf Pedagogy Framework Toward Deaf Education Reform: Perspectives From Teachers of the Deaf.

In U.S. deaf education, disablement results from a normative interpretation of disability in the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act. However, Vygotsky's Fundamentals of Defectology (1993) allows educators to view current deaf education pedagogical practices through a sociocultural-constructivist lens and reject the current remedial special education model. We explore our experience as teachers of the deaf to analyze the current state of deaf education, synthesizing two core areas of Vygotskian research-sociocultural theory and deaf pedagogy-and applying them within a framework outlini

Educating international students about tuberculosis and infections associated with travel to visit friends and relatives (VFR-travel).

BACKGROUND: International students in Victoria, Australia, originate from over 140 different countries. They are over-represented in disease notifications for tuberculosis and travel-associated infections, including enteric fever, hepatitis A, and malaria. We describe a public health initiative aimed to increase awareness of these illnesses among international students and their support staff. METHODS: We identified key agencies including student support advisors, medical practitioners, health insurers, and government and professional organisations. We developed health education materials tar

Perioperative Care of Prisoners: Providing Safe Care.

Correctional nurses are trained to care for prisoners in a controlled security environment; however, when a convict is transferred to a noncorrectional health care facility, the nurses there are often unfamiliar with custody requirements or how to safely care for these patients. The care of prisoners outside of prison has not been adequately investigated, and a gap exists between research and nursing education and practice. Nurses rarely have to consider how providing care for a prisoner in custody affects their practice, the potential dissonance between routine nursing care and the requiremen

Prehospital assessment and management of postpartum haemorrhage- healthcare personnel's experiences and perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a serious obstetric emergency, and one of the top five causes of maternal mortality globally. The most common causes of PPH include uterine atony, placental disorders, birth trauma and coagulation defects. Timely diagnosis and early management are critical to reduce morbidity, the need for blood transfusion or even mortality. External, manual aortic compression (AC) has been suggested as an intervention that reduce PPH and extend time for control of bleeding or resuscitation. This procedure is not commonly utilized by healthcare personnel. The inciden

German radiation oncology's next generation: a web-based survey of young biologists, medical physicists, and physicians-from problems to solutions.

BACKGROUND: Radiation science is of utmost significance not only due to its growing importance for clinical use, but also in everyday life such as in radiation protection questions. The expected increase in cancer incidence due to an aging population combined with technical advancements further implicates this importance and results in a higher need for sufficient highly educated and motivated personnel. Thus, factors preventing young scientists and medical personnel from entering or remaining in the field need to be identified. METHODS: A web-based questionnaire with one general and three oc

Cardiac Rehabilitation Referral After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement.

Cardiac rehabilitation following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is associated with improved outcomes; however, it remains relatively underutilized in this patient population. As part of a quality improvement initiative, we sought to increase the rate of cardiac rehabilitation referral after TAVR at our institution. We designed and implemented a multidisciplinary program that included education of cardiothoracic surgery providers discharging post-TAVR patients on the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation with participation of cardiac rehabilitation personnel during discharge rounds

[Chagas disease in Argentina: tools for schoolchildren to exercise vector surveillance and identify household risk factors].

The objective of this paper was to validate tools for schoolchildren to help control Chagas disease vectors in their own homes. Two types of tables were produced, one reporting on the presence of risk factors in residences and the other to record the presence of triatomines. The materials were tested in the field by 100 students from an endemic area in Argentina and validated by technical personnel. The results obtained by students concerning the percentage of households with risk factors and vector-positive residences were similar to those obtained by the technical personnel. This information

Being successful in patient education and, simultaneously, protecting the personnel and patients with in-time provision of sanitation and prevention protocols are mandatory to survive the pandemic. The aim of this study was to assess the success of our preventive measures in the dialysis center after application of our self-developed protocols. Method Crude and age-adjusted mortality rates of two time frames, i.e. 4th January to 5th December 2019 and the same period in 2020 (before an

Seroconversion for infectious pathogens among UK military personnel deployed to Afghanistan, 2008-2011.

Military personnel are at high risk of contracting vector-borne and zoonotic infections, particularly during overseas deployments, when they may be exposed to endemic or emerging infections not prevalent in their native countries. We conducted seroprevalence testing of 467 UK military personnel deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, during 2008-2011 and found that up to 3.1% showed seroconversion for infection with Rickettsia spp., Coxiella burnetii, sandfly fever virus, or hantavirus; none showed seroconversion for infection with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus. Most seroconversions
