Ultrasound-guided tenotomy improves physical function and decreases pain for tendinopathies of the elbow: a retrospective review.

BACKGROUND: Tendinopathy is a common cause of elbow pain in the active population. Ultrasound-guided tenotomy (USGT) is a minimally invasive treatment option for cases recalcitrant to conservative management. Several case studies have shown promising preliminary results of USGT for common extensor tendinopathy and common flexor tendinopathy, but none have included USGT for triceps tendinopathy. This larger retrospective study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of USGT for all elbow tendinopathy sites at short- and long-term follow-up. METHODS: Retrospective chart review identified 131 pat

Do joint mobilizations assist in the recovery of lateral elbow tendinopathy? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. INTRODUCTION: No consensus exists as to which are the most effective methods to treat the symptoms associated with lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET). Research has suggested that joint mobilizations may assist in the recovery of patients with LET. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: To determine if joint mobilizations are effective in improving pain, grip strength, and disability in adults with LET. METHODS: Searches in 3 databases were performed to identify relevant clinical trials. Reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the methodological quality. Summary mea

Comparison of effects of a home exercise programme and a supervised exercise programme for the management of lateral elbow tendinopathy.

BACKGROUND: Home and supervised exercise programmes consisting of stretching and eccentric exercises have been recommended for the management of lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET). No studies have examined their comparative efficacy effectiveness. OBJECTIVE: In this study, whether a home exercise programme is more successful than a supervised exercise programme in treating patients with LET was investigated. METHODS: Patients with unilateral LET for at least 4 weeks were included in this trial. They were sequentially allocated to receive either a home exercise programme or a supervised exercis

Wrist Extensor Training With Blood Flow Restriction for the Management of Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy: A Case Report.

Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET) is a common overuse injury with complex underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. Although several modes of exercise with or without passive interventions have been recommended as the first-line treatment option of the condition, their effectiveness remains inconclusive. The aim of this case report is to evaluate the effect of wrist extensor exercises with blood flow restriction (BFR) as an add-on intervention to a multi-modal physiotherapy programme to improve outcomes in a patient with LET. A 51-year-old male patient presented with a history of right LET for

Home Exercises Versus On-Site Rehabilitation in the Management of Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy: A Critically Appraised Topic.

Clinical Scenario: Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LE) is a common musculoskeletal condition that often results in pain and disability. An array of conservative interventions have been shown to improve patient outcomes in outpatient rehabilitation clinics. However, with the rise in health care costs, patients and rehabilitation specialists have opted to reduce the number of in-house visits and focus on home exercise programs (HEPs). As a result, many rehabilitation specialists and patients now depend on HEPs as the primary intervention to treat LE. Focused Clinical Question: For individuals with L

'Lateral elbow tendinopathy' is the most appropriate diagnostic term for the condition commonly referred-to as lateral epicondylitis.

A plethora of terms that have been used to describe lateral epicondylitis including tennis elbow (TE), epicondylalgia, tendonitis, tendinosis and tendinopathy. These terms usually have the prefix extensor or lateral elbow. Lateral elbow tendinopathy seems to be the most appropriate term to use in clinical practice because other terms make reference to inappropriate aetiological, anatomical and pathophysiological terms. The correct diagnostic term is important for the right treatment.

Physical Therapy for People with Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy: Using the Evidence to Guide Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinical Practice.

Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET) is an overuse injury of the common extensor tendon that occurs in active people. Modifiable risk factors include repetitive movements of the elbow, forearm, and hand, and tasks like handling heavy tools, which may overload the tendon. The clinical course of LET varies considerably. Some people experience a single, brief episode of symptoms, whereas others have persistent or recurring episodes of LET. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2023;53(1):5-6. doi:10.2519/jospt.2023.0501.

A Pilot Test of the Measures of the Greek Version of Upper Extremity Functional Index in Patients with Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy.

Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET) is a common upper limb pathology in people involved in manual occupations. The upper extremity functional index (UEFI) was specifically designed to evaluate functional limitations in patients with upper limb pathology. The UEFI was developed in English and has been translated into several languages, including Greek. However, it has been assessed only in patients with shoulder pathology. Thus, the aim of this study was to pilot-test the Greek version of the UEFI (GV-UEFI) questionnaire and assess its measurement properties in patients with LET. Thirty patients w
