Electroretinography (ERG) is a non-invasive technique for evaluating the retinal function in various ocular diseases. Its results are useful for diagnosing ocular disorders and assessing disease progression or treatment effectiveness. Since numerous studies are based on animal models, validating the ERG results from animals is pivotal. The first part of this paper presents basic information on the types of ERG tests used on rodents, and the second part describes the recorded functional changes in rodents' retinas when various antioxidant treatments for diabetic retinopathy were used. Our study

Due to an extensive variability of manifestations of X-linkage retinoschizis, there is a need in a differential diagnosis of it and of other hereditary retinal diseases. The method of electroretinography is often of primary importance in specifying a diagnosis in ophthalmology; it both enables the detection of new and more sensitive criteria of early and differential diagnosis and ensures a more profound understanding of changes occurring in the retina. A topical analysis of changes of the bioelectric activity taking place in different retinal layers and sections as well as a differential eval

Electroretinograms are an important diagnostic tool to measure retinal electrical activity. However, their interpretation, done by sub-specialised ophthalmologists, can be not only time consuming but also challenging to obtain due to availability. In recent years, studies have investigated the use of artificial intelligence in the analysis of electroretinograms. This systematic review summarises the accuracy of artificial intelligence in interpreting electroretinograms and appraises the studies included. The review comprises primary, peer-reviewed published studies that determined accuracy of

UNLABELLED: Glaucoma is a progressive neurodegenerative disease involving damage and eventually death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) that comprise the optic nerve. This review summarizes current understanding of specific RGC type vulnerability in glaucoma and how electroretinography (ERG) may provide an objective measure of these functional perturbations. There is building evidence to suggest that ON RGCs, which respond to light increments, may be more resilient to elevated intraocular pressure and glaucoma, whereas OFF RGCs, which respond to light decrements, may be more susceptible. A gold foil ERG electrode is described. The device is inexpensive and simple to fabricate. Since it is hooked over the lower lid and makes minimal touch contact with the inferior limbal area, it can be used in circumstances which require prolonged testing of retinal function or in eyes with corneal pathology. Because the optics of the eye are not compromised, it is possible, with the use of appropriate stimuli and response-averaging techniques, to record local EFGs from relatively small retinal areas.

An iron foreign body was placed into the vitreous cavity of 22 rabbits' eyes. The electroretinographic (ERG) changes over a-15-week period were recorded. These changes were compared to those in a group of 12 normal rabbits and a group of 5 animals in whom a sham operation was performed. Twelve eyes were enucleated during this period and examined histopathologically. Histopathologic and functional changes in siderosis were both progressive in time, but the ERG values were more consistent among the 22 animals than the morphologic changes. Iron oxidation (Fe0 leads to Fe2 leads to Fe3) was found

BACKGROUND: Objective physiological biomarkers that index underlying neural circuit dysfunction, such as electroretinography (ERG), are needed in Fragile X syndrome (FXS) research. Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by silencing of the FMR1 gene and loss of fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein (FMRP), leading to synaptic dysfunction and prominent sensory processing abnormalities. This study evaluated whether ERG waveform differences are detectable in FXS using a handheld RETeval® protocol while accounting for key technical and physiological determinants of signal

The paper considers the possibilities of using multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) to examine patients with primary glaucoma. Forty-seven patients underwent mfERG that established that as the disease progressed, there were reductions in the mfERG wave amplitude, when the first flash response, and in biopotential density, when the quadrant analysis was made. Biopotential changes in glaucoma can be analyzed in relation to the first flash response and a pattern response. Monitoring of changes in primary glaucoma may use mfERG.

Theta burst stimulation (TBS) has shown promise in neuromodulation for amblyopic patients. Although pattern electroretinography (PERG) can reveal abnormal retinal responses in amblyopia, its response to TBS is unexplored. This study aims to assess the impact of TBS on PERG responses in amblyopic subjects. Twenty-four adult volunteers participated, including 12 amblyopic patients (mean age 41.75 ± 13.63) and 12 subjects with normal vision (mean age 35.58 ± 12.85). Participants underwent a comprehensive optometric exam, including tests for near and far visual acuity and eye alignment via the cov
