Childhood Maltreatment and Emotional Intelligence Across Development: A Multilevel Meta-Analytic Review.

In recent years, research on the impact of childhood maltreatment on emotional intelligence has expanded. However, inconsistencies persist due to variations in maltreatment types, participant age, sample characteristics, cultural context, and measurement approaches. Systematic meta-analytic integration of these findings remains lacking. The present study employed a three-level meta-analytic framework to evaluate the effects of different maltreatment types on emotional intelligence and to examine potential moderators. A systematic search of five English and three Chinese databases identified 45

Is It Possible to Enhance Adolescents' Trait Emotional Intelligence Through Service-Learning?

Service-learning interventions have been proposed as a context for examining trait emotional intelligence, a core socioemotional competence associated with cognitive and behavioral outcomes. This pilot quasi-experimental study examined whether participation in a PLACE model (Prepare, Link, Action, Celebrate, Effect) service-learning program was associated with differences in trait emotional intelligence; civic engagement attitudes and behaviors; academic motivation and perseverance; learning mindset; school belonging; dropout intentions; and grade point average among secondary school students.

Emotional intelligence training improves stress regulation and performance in high-stress occupations.

In this randomized controlled study (N = 66) in an elite military setting, we compared stress regulation and performance outcomes between soldiers who received emotional intelligence (EI) training (n = 35) and those who received non-EI control training (n = 31). The EI-trained group underwent 15 h of instruction focused on recognizing, understanding, and regulating emotions. When exposed to intense simulated combat stressors, EI-trained participants showed significantly lower biological stress levels compared to controls and superior performance across multiple domains: shooting accuracy (94.1

This study examined the relationship between personality, EI, and successful matching into Saudi emergency medicine (EM) residency programs. Methods A prospective study was conducted involving all applicants to the 2019 Saudi Board of Emergency Medicine (SBEM) phase 2 residency match. Data collected included demographics, composite academic scores (grade point average

The Association Between Emotional Intelligence and Borderline Personality Disorder: A Meta-Analysis.

This meta-analysis synthesised findings on the association between emotional intelligence (EI) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) and evaluated potential moderators. Studies were sourced through systematic searches of four databases in April 2024. Studies had to report effect size data and participant numbers to be included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis included 25 samples and 7189 participants. A random effects model was used to calculate the overall effect size because this model allows inferences to studies not included in the analysis. Potential causes of heterogeneity wer

Participants completed Short Dark Triad, Ryff's Scale of Psychological Well-Being and Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale. Results showed significant weak correlations between DT and PWB. Narcissism was positively associated with PWB, which indicates that self-enhancing motives ma

The incremental role of trait emotional intelligence on perceived cervical screening barriers.

Researchers have become increasingly interested in investigating the role of the psychological aspects related to the perception of cervical screening barriers. This study investigates the influence of trait EI on perceived cervical screening barriers. Furthermore, this study investigates the incremental validity of trait EI beyond the Big Five, as well as emotion regulation in the perceived barrier towards the Pap test as revealed in a sample of 206 Italian women that were undergoing cervical screening. Results have shown that trait EI is negatively related to cervical screening barriers. Fur

Effects of an emotional intelligence intervention on aggression and empathy among adolescents.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of a two-year intervention grounded in the ability model of emotional intelligence (EI) on aggression and empathy among adolescents. Eight Spanish public schools volunteered to participate in the research. A total of 590 adolescents (46% boys) were randomly assigned to either the EI training group or control group conditions. Students in the EI training group reported lower levels of physical/verbal aggression, anger, hostility, personal distress and fantasy compared to students in the control group. Additionally, the EI program was particularly

Brief report: Associations between adolescent girls' social-emotional intelligence and violence perpetration.

This study examined associations between social-emotional intelligence (SEI) and two measures of violence perpetration (relational aggression and physical violence) in a cross-sectional sample of high-risk adolescent girls (N = 253). We evaluated three aspects of SEI: stress management, intrapersonal, and interpersonal skills. Results of a multiple linear regression model accounting for participants' age, race/ethnicity, and experiences of relational aggression victimization indicated that girls with better stress management skills were less likely to perpetrate relational aggression.
