Small cell carcinoma of the lung metastatic to the wall of a radicular cyst.

This case report details the unusual presentation of small cell carcinoma at the periapex of a maxillary left lateral incisor. The initial clinical presentation was that of a symptomatic, nonhealing, well-circumscribed radiolucency about the periapex of the tooth. The biopsy specimen submitted by the endodontist was diagnosed as small cell carcinoma. This report stresses the need for submission of all tissue removed from the oral cavity for histopathological examination.

Fusion of central incisors with supernumerary teeth: a 10-year follow-up of multidisciplinary treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Macrodontia of anterior teeth may occur as an isolated condition or as a result of fusion or gemination and may cause clinical problems such as tooth crowding and esthetic problems. Preliminary planning and careful management are often required by a dental team comprising an orthodontist, an endodontist, a prosthodontist, and an oral surgeon. A multidisciplinary treatment approach in a case with fused teeth is presented. METHODS: A 9-year-old girl presented with macrodontia of a left maxillary central incisor. The patient was referred to the orthodontic department because of a l

Endodontic diagnostic terminology update.

Determination of the etiology of the patient's chief complaint and a correct diagnosis are paramount prior to a recommendation of endodontic therapy. Reproduction of the patient's chief complaint is critical. If the chief complaint cannot be reproduced, consider consultation with or referral to an endodontist or orofacial pain specialist. The diagnostic terminology presented in this update provides for a more accurate description and communication of the health or pathological conditions of both pulpal and apical tissues. This information is summarized in Table I.

Modern endodontic practices among dentists in India: A comparative cross-sectional nation-based survey.

INTRODUCTION: More than 41,000 root canal treatments (RCTs) are performed every day and about 25 RCTs are performed every week by an endodontist. The success rate of endodontic treatment ranges between 86% and 98%; however, the failure rates cannot be ignored which can range up to 20% of the treated cases due to a varied number of reasons including incorrect adoption of working techniques and usage of inappropriate materials. The present study aimed at comparing the practices of various levels of dentists toward RCT in their daily practice. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional, descriptive, questio

Maxillary Fungal Osteomyelitis Mimicking and Treated as Endodontic Pathosis.

Fungal osteomyelitis is a lethal opportunistic infection that affects only a small percentage of patients present to endodontists. It is a highly contagious infection that requires urgent treatment. We discuss three cases in which endodontic pathology was initially recognized but subsequent follow-up revealed severe osteolytic fungal infection of the maxilla manifesting as acute apical abscesses in the maxillary canine region. CBCT demonstrated osteolytic abnormalities, and further histology confirmed the illness was caused by mucormycosis in patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and ex

Multidisciplinary treatment for a patient with traumatically intruded permanent canine and premolar.

When selecting treatment for traumatically intruded teeth, various factors should be evaluated including the degree of intrusion, pulp vitality, patient's age and maturity of the tooth. Treatment options consist of surgical repositioning, orthodontic extrusion and spontaneous re-eruption. This study describes a case of a 22-year-old male with traumatically intruded maxillary canine and first premolar that was treated comprehensively by an orthodontist, endodontist and prosthodontist two months after injury.

Aspects of Clinical Malpractice in Endodontics.

The clinical dentistry and endodontic procedures involve very technique-sensitive procedures, therefore exposing the operator to risks of causes not only damage to patients but also leads to malpractice. Among various disciplines of dentistry, endodontics-related cases witness the most frequently filed malpractice claims. This is due to the fact that the endodontic treatment procedures involve operative and surgical procedures, using a variety of medicaments and techniques. The endodontic procedural errors can be preoperative errors (such as incorrect diagnosis and misinterpretation), intraope

The Multi-Scale Wavelet Edge Fusion Network for Post-endodontic Treatment Quality Detection.

Assessment of root canal treatment quality is central to improving endodontic outcomes, yet interpretation of periapical radiographs remains susceptible to observer variability, fatigue, and anatomical complexity. To provide a more objective and efficient approach to post-endodontic evaluation, we developed MS-WEFNet, an enhanced YOLOv10n-based object detection framework for automatic assessment of root canal filling quality. The network incorporates a Multi-Scale Edge Information Enhancement module to reinforce fine anatomical boundaries and a Wavelet-guided Contrastive Feature Aggregation mo

Endoscope--an endodontic application.

The endoscope utilized by otolaryngologists for the past 10 yr has a place in the armamentarium of the endodontist as well. It provides improved visualization of root apicies, especially those not in the line of direct vision. It can illuminate and identify roots in the sinus if such treatment becomes necessary. By allowing a magnified view of the root-end preparation before and after placement of the filling material, any fractures or extraneous material can be identified. This instrument is quite small and readily transportable from one operatory to another. The cost is a fraction of the pri
