Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) protocols, though well-established across surgical disciplines, remains underutilized in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgeries due to complexities like malnutrition and immunosuppression. This systematic review evaluated 13 studies involving 3,539 patients to assess the impact of ERAS implementation in IBD surgery. Data consistently showed that ERAS protocols reduced hospital stay, expedited bowel function return and decreased complications and readmissions compared to conventional care. Key components included nutritional optimization, laparoscopic

An ERAS protocols in improving postoperative outcomes after elective abdominal surgeries is of interest. Hence, a total of 138 patients were analyzed with 68 receiving ERAS-based care and 70 receiving conventional management. The ERAS group had significantly lower pain scores, reached their recovery milestones sooner and had fewer complications. The average length stay was significantly shorter and there were no increased readmission rates. Thus, we show continued dissemination and implementation of ERAS protocols for improved surgical recovery.

INTRODUCTION: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) principles is an evidence-based surgical management approach that requires cooperation across various medical specialties. In this study, we applied ERAS principles in total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) and the post-operative outcomes like post-operative pain, nausea and vomiting, opioid requirement, day of discharge, and any other complaints were studied.
METHODS: The study was conducted in a private healthcare setup in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. In this non-randomised controlled study 103 patients who underwent TLH over a period of 1 y

INTRODUCTION: The 5-modified frailty index (mFI) is a valid predictor of 30-day mortality after surgery. With the wide implementation of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in colorectal patients, the predictive power of frailty and its contribution to morbidity and length of stay (LOS) can be underestimated.
METHODS: We reviewed all colectomy patients undergoing ERAS protocol at a single, tertiary care institution from January 2016-January 2019. The 5-mFI score was calculated based on the presence of 5 comorbidities: Congestive heart failure (CHF), diabetes mellitus, chronic obs

PURPOSE: The optimal management of postoperative pain using multimodal analgesia is a key component of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). Pain has adverse clinical implications on postoperative recovery, including prolonging the time to recovery milestones and length of hospital stay. Moreover, the ubiquity of opioids in postoperative analgesic regimens results in adverse effects, such as sedation, postoperative nausea and vomiting, urinary retention, ileus, and respiratory depression, which can delay discharge. Thus, multimodal analgesia, i.e., the use of more than one analgesic modality

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) is a multimodal perioperative framework designed to mitigate the physiological stress response to major surgery. While ERAS protocols consistently reduce length of hospital stay, overall complication rates, and healthcare costs compared to conventional care, their specific impact on surgical site infections (SSIs) remains poorly defined. This review explores the potential synergistic benefits of integrating ERAS protocols with established infection prevention bundles. By evaluating the current clinical evidence, we analyze how the co-implementation of th

BACKGROUND: Despite the implementation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs, surgical stress continues to influence postoperative rehabilitation, including the period after discharge. However, there is a lack of data available beyond the point of discharge following video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) wedge resection. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate incidence and risk factors for readmissions after ERAS VATS wedge resection.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on data from prospectively collected consecutive VATS wedge resections from

INTRODUCTION: For open fetal spina bifida (fSB) repair, a maternal laparotomy is required. Hence, enhanced maternal recovery after surgery (ERAS) is paramount. A revision of our ERAS protocol was made, including changes in operative techniques and postoperative pain management. This study investigates eventual benefits.
METHODS: Our study included 111 women with open fSB repair at our center. The old protocol group (group 1) either received a transverse incision of the fascia with transection of the rectus abdominis muscle (RAM) or a longitudinal incision of the fascia without RAM transection
