New perspectives on the taste mechanisms of umami and bitter peptides in low-salt fermented fish sauce based on peptidomics, molecular docking and molecular dynamics.

Umami and bitter peptides generated by microbial metabolism are essential to the taste of low-salt fish sauce. However, the uncertain taste mechanisms of peptides hinder the efficient identification of high-intensity taste peptides in fish sauce. Our study investigated the taste mechanisms of umami or bitter peptides from low-salt fish sauce fermented with Tetragenococcus halophilus. Herein, a total of 10 umami and 50 bitter peptides were identified from low-salt fish sauce by peptidomics, of which 6 umami peptides and 14 bitter peptides were primarily associated with Tetragenococcus, Lactobac

16S rRNA gene sequencing reveals altered composition of gut microbiota in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the causes of endocrine disorders and infertility in women of childbearing age, which seriously affects women's health. The etiology of PCOS is still unknown, and metabolic abnormalities are the focus of current research. A large number of studies have shown that gut microbiota is related to metabolic abnormalities. This project intends to study the relationship between gut microbiota and PCOS and analyze the molecular mechanism of its impact on PCOS. The project is designed to conduct 16S rRNA sequencing and analysis using feces from patients with po

Association of Neonatal Jaundice with Gut Dysbiosis Characterized by Decreased Bifidobacteriales.

Neonatal jaundice, caused by excess serum bilirubin levels, is a common condition in neonates. Imbalance in the gut microbiota is believed to play a role in the development of neonatal jaundice. Thus, we aimed to reveal the gut microbiota characteristics in neonates with jaundice. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed on stool samples collected on day 4 from 26 neonates with jaundice (serum total bilirubin > 15.0 mg/dL) and 17 neonates without jaundice (total serum bilirubin < 10.0 mg/dL). All neonates were born full term, with normal weight, by vaginal delivery, and were breastfed. Neonates

Structure of the Gut and Ovary, with Associated Microbiota Across Life Stages in the Striped Stem Borer Chilo suppressalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae).

The striped stem borer Chilo suppressalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is one of the most serious pests of water bamboo Zizania latifolia. Microbiota dynamics across the life cycle of C. suppressalis are a prerequisite for comprehending the symbiotic relationship between C. suppressalis and its microbiota. In this study, we characterized the structural features of the gut and ovary, as well as the associated microbiota of C. suppressalis. The gut is anatomically divided into the foregut, midgut and hindgut. Notable structural and ultrastructural differences were observed between adults and larvae,

Validity of somatic cell count as indicator of pathogen-specific intramammary infections.

The objective of this study was to determine whether somatic cell count (SCC) was an effective test, with a sensitivity exceeding 85%, to determine species-specific bacterial infections. In addition, the relation between the SCC and various udder pathogen groups was investigated. SCC thresholds of greater than 200 000 cells/mL were used in quarter and greater than 150 000 cells/mL in composite milk samples. A retrospective study was conducted on a data set for 89 635 quarter and 345 467 composite cow milk samples. Eleven SCC threshold values were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy for th

Gut microbiota analysis in cirrhosis and non-cirrhotic portal hypertension suggests that portal hypertension can be main factor of cirrhosis-specific dysbiosis.

Gut dysbiosis plays an important role in cirrhosis, but the mechanism of its development was not established. The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that portal hypertension can be the main factor in the development of gut dysbiosis in cirrhosis. This cross-sectional study included 25 patients with chronic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension due to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction after portal vein thrombosis (PVT) (NCPVT group), 29 cirrhotic patients without PVT (CirNoPVT), 15 cirrhotic patients with chronic PVT (CPVT), and 22 healthy controls. The fecal microbiota was assessed usi

Regional Differences in the Gut Microbiota and Gut-Associated Immunologic Factors in the Ileum and Cecum of Rats With Collagen-Induced Arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation and a multifactorial etiology. We previously showed that gut microbiota dysbiosis in the rat ileum is involved in the development of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). The gut microbiota in the distinct gastrointestinal tract (GIT) plays region-specific roles, but information on the different roles of the microbiota in distinct GIT compartments of CIA rats is limited. This study aimed to evaluate the region-specific differences in the gut microbial communities and certain gut-associated immunologic fa

Impact of a probiotic, inulin, or their combination on the piglets' microbiota at different intestinal locations.

Natural feed additives are used to maintain health and to promote performance of pigs without antibiotics. Effects of a probiotic, inulin, and their combination (synbiotic), on the microbial diversity and composition at different intestinal locations were analysed using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), real-time PCR, and 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing. Bacterial diversity assessed by DGGE and/or pyrosequencing was increased by inulin in all three gut locations and by the synbiotic in the caecum and colon. In contrast, the probiotic did only affect the microbiota diversity in the i

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation for Recurrent Clostridioides difficile Infections in a Cystic Fibrosis Child Previously Screen Positive, Inconclusive Diagnosis (CFSPID): A Case Report.

Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is generally treated with vancomycin, metronidazole or fidaxomicin, although fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) represents a promising therapeutic option for antibiotic-resistant recurrent C. difficile infections (rCDIs) in adults. In pediatric cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, CDIs are generally asymptomatic and respond to treatment. Here, we present the case of an 8-year-old female, initially diagnosed as "CFTR-related metabolic syndrome/cystic fibrosis screen positive, inconclusive diagnosis" (CMRS/CFSPID), who then progressed to CF at 12 months. In

Gut Microbiota Patterns in Patients with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Comprehensive Assessment Using Three Analysis Methods.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered the most common chronic liver disease worldwide, affecting nearly 25% of the global adult population. Increasing evidence suggests that functional and compositional changes in the gut microbiota may contribute to the development and promote the progression of NAFLD. 16S rRNA gene next-generation sequencing is widely used to determine specific features of the NAFLD microbiome, but a complex system such as the gut microbiota requires a comprehensive approach. We used three different approaches: MALDI-TOF-MS of bacterial cultures, qPCR, and
