INTRODUCTION: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting multiple body parts. With a fluctuating range of symptoms, SLE imposes significant challenges and limitations on individuals at work. The objective of this review is to synthesise the existing literature on work disability in patients with SLE and identify factors associated with work disability and facilitators of returning to work (RTW).
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This systematic review is registered with PROSPERO (CRD420251011567). This protocol followed the PRISMA-P (Preferred Reporting Items for Systema

Workplace mobbing is a hostile and unethical communication, systematically aimed from one or more individuals towards mostly one individual, who are forced into a helpless position and are held in it by constant bullying. This article describes some of the most important characteristics of mobbing: offensive behaviour, organizational and non-organizational causes of this behaviour, the victim and the consequences. Modern business environment is complex, dynamic, volatile, and requires better ability to adjust. Constant changes are a part of organizational reality, but they also produce an idea

Psychopathy occupies a pivotal yet unsettled position at the intersection of neuroscience, business ethics, and criminal jurisprudence. Despite rapid scientific advances, core uncertainties remain. This article examines five issues of immediate legal relevance: (1) the contested neurobiological basis of psychopathy; (2) reproducibility concerns linked to the broader replication crisis in psychological and neuroscientific research; (3) limitations of leading assessment instruments (e.g., PCL-R), and the risks of reifying cut-off scores; (4) accumulating evidence favouring a dimensional understa

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Organ transplantation is a vital medical procedure that saves and extends lives. However, it requires a careful balance of resources, which are often limited by managed care constraints. Renal transplantation is the definitive treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). We share our experience with a managed care organization and how it upheld ethical principles while maintaining solvency and cost-effectiveness.
RECENT FINDINGS: Managed care organizations are pervasive healthcare entities and highly regulated businesses. To remain solvent, patients must join

AIM: This scoping review synthesises the global evidence on tobacco retailers' attitudes towards selling tobacco, tobacco control (TC) measures and the potential phase out of tobacco sales.
METHODS: We searched eight databases covering health, social science and business topics to identify records published between 2000 and 2024. Records were eligible for inclusion if they examined tobacco retailers' perceptions, attitudes or views on selling tobacco and nicotine products, or opinions on TC measures or ceasing tobacco sales. The review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Scoping Review

A wealth of research documents the critical role of trust for social exchange and cooperative behavior. The ability to inspire trust in others can often be elusive, and distrust can have adverse interpersonal and ethical consequences. Drawing from the literature on social hierarchy and interpersonal judgments, the current research explores the predictive role of a structural paradox between high power and low status in identifying the actors most likely to be distrusted and monitored for ethical misconduct. Across four studies and an internal meta-analysis, we found that the structural paradox

In the face of the recent institutional breakdown of trust in business, managers are losing legitimacy. To regain public trust, management needs to become a true profession in much the way medicine and law have, argue Khurana and Nohria of Harvard Business School. True professions have codes, and the meaning and consequences of those codes are taught as part of the formal education required of their members. Through these codes, professional institutions forge an implicit social contract with society: Trust us to control and exercise jurisdiction over an important occupational category, and, i

Business leadership has become synonymous in the public eye with unethical behavior. Widespread scandals, massive layoffs, and inflated executive pay packages have led many to believe that corporate wrongdoing is the status quo. That's why it's more important than ever that those at the top mend relationships with customers, employees, and other stakeholders. Professor Gardner has spent many years studying the relationship between psychology and ethics at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. In this interview with HBR senior editor Bronwyn Fryer, Gardner talks about what he calls the ethica

INTRODUCTION: Despite extensive evidence of its benefits and recommendation by guidelines, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) remains highly underused with only 20%-50% of eligible patients participating. We aim to implement and evaluate the Country Heart Attack Prevention (CHAP) model of care to improve CR attendance and completion for rural and remote participants.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: CHAP will apply the model for large-scale knowledge translation to develop and implement a model of care to CR in rural Australia. Partnering with patients, clinicians and health service managers, we will codevelop

PROBLEM: Value-based health care (VBHC) is an innovative framework for redesigning care delivery to achieve better outcomes for patients and reduce cost; however, providing students with the skills to understand and engage with these topics is a challenge to medical educators.
APPROACH: Here, the authors present a novel, VBHC curriculum integrated into a required course for post-core clerkship students-launched in 2018 at Harvard Medical School and taught in conjunction with Harvard Business School faculty-that highlights key principles of VBHC most relevant to undergraduate medical education

In this article, we offer some initial examination on how Covid-19 pandemic can influence the developments of CSR and marketing. We argue that Covid-19 pandemic offers a great opportunity for businesses to shift towards more genuine and authentic CSR and contribute to address urgent global social and environmental challenges. We also discuss some potential directions of how consumer ethical decision making will be shifted to due to the pandemic. In our discussion of marketing, we outline how we believe marketing is being affected by this pandemic and how we think this will change, not only the

Secondary use of health data applies personal health information (PHI) for uses outside of direct health care delivery. It includes such activities as analysis, research, quality and safety measurement, public health, payment, provider certification or accreditation, marketing, and other business applications, including strictly commercial activities. Secondary use of health data can enhance health care experiences for individuals, expand knowledge about disease and appropriate treatments, strengthen understanding about effectiveness and efficiency of health care systems, support public health

Codes of conduct have long been a feature of corporate life. Today, they are arguably a legal necessity--at least for public companies with a presence in the United States. But the issue goes beyond U.S. legal and regulatory requirements. Sparked by corruption and excess of various types, dozens of industry, government, investor, and multisector groups worldwide have proposed codes and guidelines to govern corporate behavior. These initiatives reflect an increasingly global debate on the nature of corporate legitimacy. Given the legal, organizational, reputational, and strategic considerations

This article draws on Gareth Morgan's theory of organizational metaphors. Using imaginization, this research examines practices of ethical leadership during a crisis, using The Walking Dead television series as a reference. The Walking Dead offers an artistic representation of different leadership styles, with business organizations likened to groups of survivors. Its post-apocalyptic setting offers something of an analogy to the COVID-19 crisis. Each firm's struggle for survival in the face of external threats is paralleled with each community's struggle to protect members' lives, preserve re

INTRODUCTION: Falls are a major health problem for older people; 35% of people aged 65+ years fall every year, leading to fractures in 10%-15%. Upper limb fractures are often the first sign of osteoporosis and routine screening for osteoporosis is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence to prevent subsequent hip fractures. However, both frailty and sarcopenia (muscle weakness) are associated with increased risk of falling and fracture but are not routinely identified in this group. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of assessing and managing frail

PURPOSE: The German sector-based healthcare system poses a major challenge to continuous patient monitoring and long-term follow-up, both essential for generating high-quality, longitudinal real-world data. The national Network for Genomic Medicine (nNGM) bridges the inpatient and outpatient care sectors to provide comprehensive molecular diagnostics and personalized treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in Germany. Building on the established nNGM infrastructure, the DigiNet study aims to evaluate the impact of digitally integrated, personalized care on overall survival (O
