Effects of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract on xanthine oxidase and chronic kidney disease induced by adenine in rats.

The aim of this study was to explore the uric acid-lowering effect and renal protective effect of Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract (EULE). The results of xanthine oxidase inhibition assay showed EULE exhibited a high inhibition rate similar to that of allopurinol, with an IC50 value of 1.53 mg/mL. A chronic kidney disease (CKD) model was established in adenine-induced rats to investigate the therapeutic effect of EULE on CKD. The results demonstrated EULE could reduce blood pressure and improve renal index. Additionally, EULE could regulate serum and urine indicators of renal function injury, an

The therapeutic role of Coccinia grandis in flavor-enhancing high-lipid diet-induced chronic kidney disease: a dual role of NF-kB and TGF-β/smad in renal fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Coccinia grandis (CG), a plant used as traditional medicine, possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic activities. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal fibrosis are public health issues, further promoted by monosodium glutamate in high-lipid diets (MH) via oxidative stress and inflammation. CG could potentially alleviate MH-induced CKD by modulating cell signaling. The purpose of this study is to hypothesize that CG, with known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, might counteract MH-induced kidney dysfunction through its putative modulation of the sign

Systematic investigation of the pharmacological mechanism for renal protection by the leaves of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver using UPLC-Q-TOF/MS combined with network pharmacology analysis.

Bark is the traditional medicinal component of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver (E. ulmoides). However, the demand for E. ulmoides medicinal materials seriously limits their sustainability. To alleviate resource constraints, the bioactivity of E. ulmoides leaves and its pharmacodynamic basis were investigated. In the present study, extracts of E. ulmoides leaves were found to display potential renal protective properties in rat glomerular mesangial (HBZY-1) cells treated with high levels of glucose, suggesting that they possess potential factors capable of treating diabetic nephropathy. Safety evaluation of Eucommia ulmoides extract.

Eucommia ulmoides Oliver is native to China and frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine formulations. However, studies show that Eucommia ulmoides extract (EUE) are potentially genotoxic and nephrotoxic. To evaluate its safety, the Ames test, bone marrow micronucleus assay and chromosomal aberration assay, along with acute (24 h) and sub-chronic (13 weeks) toxicity were conducted. EUE was non-genotoxic within the dose ranges of 0.0352-22 mg/plate (raw plant equivalent as below), 22-88 g/kg body weight and 2-20 mg/mL. The maximum tolerated dose of EUE was not less than 168 g/kg, which i
