PURPOSE: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the leading global cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Glycemic control in older adults with T2DM and advanced CKD, particularly those on dialysis, presents a clinical challenge due to altered pharmacokinetics and an increased risk of hypoglycemia. Although insulin remains the standard treatment, non-insulin antihyperglycemic agents with potential cardiorenal benefits have emerged. However, their safety and efficacy in this high-risk population remain uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the comparative efficacy an

One of today's most decorative and popular ornamental potted plants is Croton. Handling this plant over a period of 6 months produced contact eczema of the hands in a nursery gardener. Patch tests with Croton leaves were positive. Control tests remained negative. Sensitization experiments in guinea pigs with a methanolic extract of the leaves were successful. All results of the study indicate that: -latex of croton produces no primary irritant reaction -latex is able to induce a real contact allergy -contact allergens are constituents of the milky sap. The gut microbiota has been posited as a target for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Herein, we investigated the effect of the hydroethanolic leaf extract of Mallotus oppositifolius (MOE) on the gut microbiota of mice and how this contributes to its known antidepressant-like effect. A 6-week chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) procedure was employed in 7 groups of mice to induce depression. From the third week, oral MOE treatments (10, 30, 100 mg/kg) and two reference drugs, fluoxetine (12 mg/kg) and minocycline (40 mg/kg), known to affect the gut microbiota, were administered.
