Congenital deficiency of blood coagulation factor XIII is an uncommon, inherited disorder characterized by hemorrhagic diathesis, habitual abortions and defective wound healing. We analyzed 8 reported successful pregnancies in women with a congenital deficiency of A-subunit of factor XIII (XIIIA), in which the plasma level of maternal factor XIIIA and/or the precise replacement therapies are described. BACKGROUND: An extensive upper dermal network of human Thy-1+/Factor XIIa+ dermal dendrocytes (DD) exists in human mycosis fungoides (MF).
METHODS: Immunophenotyping and morphologic studies on serial frozen and paraffin sections from 15 cases of canine MF were performed to see if a similar network exists in this disease, as has been proposed as an animal model of human MF. Primary antibodies were anti-human Factor XIIIa, Factor XIIIs, anti-canine Thy-1, CD4, CD8, CD18, CD45RA, Class II, MAC387, KP-1, EBM-11, and several other pan-T, pan-B, and pan monocyte markers.

BACKGROUND: S100A6, an S100 calcium-binding protein, has been found in a variety of cutaneous and extracutaneous lesions including: melanocytic nevi, melanoma, some salivary gland and epithelial tumors, and malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH). Rhinophyma may present with either of two distinct histopathologic appearances. The most common shows histopathologic features of rosacea. Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a systemic disease caused by the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and Paracoccidioides lutzii. In PCM the skin and oral mucosa are often affected. Routine histology and immunohistochemistry can usually distinguish dermatofibroma (DF) and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). A new hypothesis is presented to explain the mechanism of non-rejection of a natural allograft: the mammalian fetus during early development. Using the rabbit as a model, it is proposed here that uteroglobin (UG., MW. 15,800) synthesized in the uterus during early pregnancy, crosslinks with beta 2-microglobulin (part of the H-2 and HL-A antigens) on the embryonic cell surface.
