Buckwheat allergy.

Buckwheat, a gluten-free pseudocereal, is a traditional staple in parts of East Asia-particularly Japan, Korea, and northern China-as well as in Russia, but is rarely consumed in Southeast Asia where rice dominates the diet. Its growing use in gluten-free products worldwide has increased exposure, raising concerns about buckwheat allergy, which can manifest as urticaria, rhinoconjunctivitis, asthma, or life-threatening anaphylaxis. Both dietary ingestion and occupational inhalation pose risks. Despite relatively high sensitization rates in endemic regions, many individuals remain asymptomatic,

NADPH-mediated seedless in situ formation of gold or gold-platinum nanoparticles for the enzymatic determination of atropine.

The without-seeds in situ formation of gold nanoparticles from NADPH and its application to the colorimetric determination of atropine (a tropane alkaloid) in cereals is reported. The method is based on a chemical hydrolysis, followed by an enzymatic oxidation by NADP catalyzed by tropinone reductase in the presence of Au(III) or Au(III)/Pt(II). During this reaction, the formed NADPH reduces the metal ion precursor to AuNPs (or AuPtNPs) and the absorption due to the plasmon band (550 nm or 575 nm) is measured. The method (AuPtNPs) allows the determination of the analyte in the concentration ra

Predicting potential distribution of the Rhinoncus sibiricus under climatic in China using MaxEnt.

In recent years, buckwheat (Fagopyrum spp.) is being increasingly damaged by the Siberian tortoise beetle (Rhinoncus sibiricus Faust). Adults and nymphs feed on leaf tissues and caulicles, thus damaging its stems and leaves. In this study, we investigated the habits, distribution, and environmental impact of R. sibiricus using MaxEnt, an ecological niche model. Geographic information about the infestation site from previous field surveys and climatic data from 2013 to 2018 were organized and optimized using R. The impact factors were calculated using MaxEnt software. The results indicate that

Buckwheat R2R3 MYB transcription factor FeMYBF1 regulates flavonol biosynthesis.

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) contains high amounts of flavonoids, especially flavonols (e.g., rutin), which are thought to be highly beneficial for human health. Little is known, however, about the regulation of flavonol synthesis in buckwheat. We identified a buckwheat gene encoding an R2R3 MYB transcription factor, and named this gene FeMYBF1. Analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence and phylogenetic analysis suggested that FeMYBF1 encodes an ortholog of the Arabidopsis flavonol regulators AtMYB11, AtMYB12 and AtMYB111. Expression of FeMYBF1 in a flavonol-deficient Arabidopsis triple

Germination as a Pre-isolation Modification Method for Common Buckwheat Protein Isolate.

This study investigated germination as a pre-isolation modification method to enhance the techno-functional and nutritional properties of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) protein. Germination was conducted at two different temperatures (20 and 30 °C) for 24, 48, and 72 h, and isolated proteins were analyzed for their chemical, structural, and functional properties. Results showed that the highest protein yield was achieved at 30 °C for 24 h, though durations exceeding 48 h reduced purity. SDS-PAGE and FTIR analyses confirmed that endogenous protease activity degraded high-molecul

[Clinical diagnosis and management of wheat and buckwheat allergy: application and prospects of allergen component diagnostics].

Wheat and buckwheat allergies are common food allergies that significantly impact patients' quality of life and health. Wheat allergy encompasses various forms, including wheat food allergy, exercise-induced allergic reactions (WDEIA), baker's occupational asthma/allergy, and contact urticaria. IgE-mediated allergic reactions involve sensitization to stable wheat allergens such as ω-5 gliadin and gluten. Although buckwheat allergy is less common, it is gaining attention in certain regions. Allergen component diagnostic technologies, by detecting specific allergen components [e.g., ω-5 gliadin,

Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome due to buckwheat: A case report.

Buckwheat is a rare causative food for food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES). To date, it is unknown what laboratory data patients with FPIES caused by buckwheat show. We report a 4-year-old female with FPIES caused by buckwheat and the laboratory results. Skin prick, specific IgE antibody, and basophil activation tests were negative; however, the lymphocyte stimulation test (LST) revealed a 10.2-fold increase in activation compared with the negative control. In an open-label oral food challenge (OFC) of 80 g boiled buckwheat noodles, 3 hours after ingestion, vomiting occurred fo

Flavonoid Biotransformation in Rutin-Rich Beverages by Magnetic Nanoparticle-Immobilized Endogenous Rutin-Hydrolyzing Enzyme From Tartary Buckwheat.

Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is a major source of dietary rutin. During processing, endogenous rutin-hydrolyzing enzyme (RHE) can catalyze the biotransformation of rutin, generating valuable flavonoid derivatives that may have enhanced functional properties. However, the use of free RHE in Tartary buckwheat matrices is constrained by its poor stability and low reusability. In this study, RHE was isolated from Tartary buckwheat and covalently immobilized onto bifunctional magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles that were silica-coated, amino-functionalized, and glutaraldehyde-activated. Co

Gene Expression Reversal and Metabolomics Reveal the Mechanism of Tartary Buckwheat Vinegar Against Alcoholic Acute Liver Injury.

This study explored the hepatoprotective effects and underlying mechanisms of tartary buckwheat vinegar (TBV) against alcoholic acute liver injury (AALI). The 60 male ICR mice were divided into six groups: control (Con), model (EtOH, 52°, Red Star Erguotou, 10 mL/kg), metadoxine (Met, 300 mg/kg), and TBV low/medium/high-dose groups (L/M/H, 3.75/7.5/12 mL/kg). Pharmacological evaluations revealed that ethanol exposure significantly increased the liver index and serum levels of AST and ALT. Moreover, hepatic GSH, SOD, and ALDH enzymatic activity were markedly decreased, while MDA levels and IL-1

Integrated transcriptomic analysis identifies liver aging-driven fibrosis signatures and reveals therapeutic strategies based on medicine-food homology.

Despite its strong regenerative capacity, liver aging paradoxically increases susceptibility to fibrosis and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease through dysregulated inflammation, senescence-associated secretory phenotypes, and immune-metabolic crosstalk. To systematically characterize these processes, we integrated longitudinal transcriptomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, and machine-learning approaches. We identified 252 aging-associated genes and developed an Aging Gene Score (AGS) to quantify senescence burden across hepatic cell populations. Single-cell analysis revea

Effects of dry heat and heat-moisture treatment of refined buckwheat core flour on oil content of fried instant noodles: The view from protein structural and microstructure.

Reducing oil content without compromising texture remains a major challenge in developing healthier fried instant noodles. This study investigated whether dry heat treatment (DHT) and heat-moisture treatment (HMT) could regulate the structural properties of refined buckwheat core flour and thereby reduce oil content in fried instant noodles. Refined buckwheat core flour was treated by DHT or HMT and incorporated into wheat flour at 15% substitution. Both treatments effectively reduced oil content under appropriate treatment conditions, but were associated with different structural responses. M
