African American faith institutions can play a key role in increasing HIV education and testing in communities disproportionately burdened by HIV. This focus group study explored church participant perspectives of a religiously tailored HIV education and testing intervention implemented through a clustered, randomized controlled trial with 14 African American churches in Kansas City. Focus group participants from intervention churches emphasized the importance of churches providing access to HIV screening/education and support for people with HIV. They noted that pastors' involvement (e.g., in

Health disparities arise from unequal power relations shaping resource allocation, governance, and community agency. Community power is a key mechanism for addressing disparities. This study examines how visible, hidden, and invisible power operate within a U.S. county to inform inclusive governance. We conducted seven focus groups with Black and Hispanic residents (n = 68) and sixteen semi-structured interviews with elected officials, government staff, and advocacy leaders in Greenville County, South Carolina. Data were collected between March and December 2024. Transcripts were collaborative

This qualitative study aimed to understand the intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, community, and public policy resources that peer support workers (PSWs) in the substance use disorder (SUD) recovery field perceive as helpful in supporting their efforts. Twenty-five PSWs participated in semistructured interviews designed to elicit their experiences and perspectives on resources that currently support or could better support their work. PSWs had a mean age of 49.3 years (SD = 12.9) and were primarily cisgender women (n = 16, 64%) and White (n = 20, 80%). Interviews were audio-recorded

BACKGROUND: There is much discussion in the literature about the link between traumatic events related to war and mental illness. However, in comparison, mental health has been more researched than protective factors such as coping methods, which are the primary factors to build resilience in these circumstances. This review examines the psychological and environmental elements that influence the resilience of Ukrainian refugees and IDPs by analyzing coping strategies and risk and protective factors.
METHODS: A literature search was conducted on PsycINFO, Pubmed, Scopus, and Science Direct, w

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infection is a major source of morbidity and mortality globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that HIV counselling and testing be offered routinely to TB patients in order to increase access to HIV care packages. We assessed the uptake of provider-initiated testing and counselling (PITC), antiretroviral (ART) and co-trimoxazole preventive therapies (CPT) among TB patients in the Northwest Region, Cameroon.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study using TB registers in 4 TB/HIV treatment centres (1 publ

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Vaccine attitudes are an individual's beliefs, feelings, and evaluations regarding vaccines. Limited research has examined how students in faith-based university settings organize these attitudes. This study looked at vaccination attitudes among students at a religious university where faith, science, family, and politics often influence how students think and make decisions.
METHODS: This study used Q-methodology to examine shared viewpoints about vaccination. A concourse of 240 statements was developed from published literature, public discourse, and student interview

BACKGROUND: Suicide is a major public-health challenge globally and in Uganda, where criminalization, stigma, and weak surveillance hinder prevention. The WHO LIVE LIFE framework offers evidence-based strategies, but there is limited experience implementing it at the district level in low-resource settings. Guided by the i-PARIHS framework, the "WHO LIVE LIFE with District Health Management Team as Champions for Suicide Prevention across the Lifespan in Rural Uganda (WLLDC-SP)" initiative positions District Health Management Team (DHMT) members as implementation champions. This study explored

BACKGROUND: Depression is a common condition among cancer patients, across several points in the disease trajectory. Although presenting higher prevalence rates than the general population, it is often not reported or remains unnoticed. Moreover, somatic symptoms of depression are common in the oncological context and should not be dismissed as a general symptom of cancer. It becomes even more challenging to track psychological distress in the period after the treatment, where connection with the healthcare system typically becomes sporadic. The main goal of the FAITH project is to remotely id

BACKGROUND: Community-engaged research depends on sharing findings effectively; however, few tools translate implementation capacity and readiness data into actionable feedback. This gap limits community organizations' ability to use results to guide health program implementation, build trust in research, and sustain ongoing participation. This study developed and used a tailored survey response report process for congregations participating in the Engaging Partners in Caring Communities (EPICC) project to support implementation planning and technical assistance.
METHODS: The EPICC CFIR-infor

The first imported case of Ebola virus disease (Ebola) diagnosed in the United States was confirmed on September 30, 2014; two health care workers who cared for this patient subsequently developed Ebola. Since then, local, state, and federal health officials have continued to prepare for future imported cases, including developing strategies to identify and monitor persons who have had contact with an Ebola patient. This report describes some of the needs of persons who were contacts of Ebola patients in Texas. It is based on requests received from contacts in the course of daily contact traci

BACKGROUND: Harm reduction for people who use drugs (PWUD) is an established evidence-based practice that encompasses a wide variety of services, delivery formats, and settings and has been named a priority in US drug policy. Harm reduction is focused on planning with communities and meeting PWUD where they are and encompasses a wide variety of interventions. We describe and report the feasibility, acceptability, and process implementation outcomes for an innovative pilot drug overdose harm reduction intervention, Block-by-Block (BXB), focused on training for and distribution of naloxone and t

Victim-blaming and entrenched gender norms are a persistent barrier to justice and support pathways for victim-survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Fiji. While these issues have been considered in relation to physical forms of abuse, there remains limited understanding of how these attitudes may impact victim-survivors of technology-facilitated sexual violence, particularly image-based sexual abuse-the non-consensual creation, capture, distribution, or threatened distribution of nude or sexual imagery. This article examined these dynamics drawing on a reflexive thematic analysis of foc

Reducing obesity positively impacts diabetes and cardiovascular risk; however, evidence-based lifestyle programs, such as the diabetes prevention program (DPP), show reduced effectiveness in African American (AA) women. In addition to an attenuated response to lifestyle programs, AA women also demonstrate high rates of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. To address these disparities, enhancements to evidence-based lifestyle programs for AA women need to be developed and evaluated with culturally relevant and rigorous study designs. This study describes a community-based participator

BACKGROUND: During mass gatherings, public health services and other medical services should be planned to protect attendees and people living around the venue to minimize the risk of disease transmission. These services are essential components of adequate planning for mass gatherings. The Arbaeenia mass gathering signifies the remembrance of the death of Imam Hussain, celebrated by Shiite Muslims, and takes place in Karbala, which is a city in southern Iraq. This annual mass gathering is attended by millions of people from within and outside Iraq.
