Analysis of fused maxillary incisor dentition in p53-deficient exencephalic mice.

Out of a total of 21 exencephalic p53-deficient embryonic and newborn mice, 6 (28.6%) possessed fused maxillary incisor teeth. On histological analysis of the 5 examples seen on day 19.5 of gestation and newborn mice, 3 varieties were observed: an example of 'simple' fusion, 3 examples of simple fusion each of which contained a 'dens in dente' ('tooth within a tooth'), and a single example in which the fused teeth were associated with a median supernumerary incisor tooth which, while deeply indenting the labial surface of the fused teeth, was in all locations a completely separate unit. 3-D re

Nine-year Follow-up of Autotransplantation in the Maxillary Anterior Region: Replacing a Fused Incisor with a Supernumerary Tooth.

The goal of tooth autotransplantation is to restore a missing tooth by using a functional tooth from the same patient. Although this procedure is gaining more recognition as a viable treatment option in dentistry, it is important to monitor and report long-term results. This case report presents the long-term follow-up of a fused maxillary central incisor that was extracted and replaced with a supernumerary tooth. Although the donor tooth displayed favorable characteristics, including an intact periodontal ligament and minimal extraoral time, which contributed to the success of the transplanta

Analysis of congenital deciduous teeth absence and its permanent teeth phenotype.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of congenital deciduous teeth absence and its permanent teeth performance type by using panoramic radiographs. METHODS: A total of 15 749 panora-mic radiographs of 3-6-year-old children with deciduous dentition were collected from January 2020 to December 2021. The incidence of congenital deciduous teeth absence was observed, and the abnormality of permanent teeth was recor-ded. SPSS 24.0 software was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The incidence of congenital deciduous teeth absence was 2.54% (400/15 749), whic

The association between prune belly syndrome and dental anomalies: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Prune belly syndrome is a rare condition produced by an early mesodermal defect that causes abdominal abnormalities. However, the literature indicates that disturbances related to ectodermal development may also be present. This is the first case report in the literature to suggest that dental abnormalities are part of the broad spectrum of clinical features of prune belly syndrome. Because the syndrome causes many serious medical problems, early diagnosis of abnormalities involving the primary and permanent dentitions are encouraged. CASE PRESENTATION: The authors report the clin

Endodontic management of a fused mandibular third molar and distomolar: a case report.

Careful management of fused teeth is essential as abnormal morphology can predispose a tooth to caries and periodontal disease. In this paper, a rare case of successful endodontic management of unilateral mandibular third molar fused to a distomolar is reported. Caries was removed from the tooth complex under local anaesthesia. The pulp chambers of the third molar and supernumerary tooth were accessed and the root canals were prepared using rotary instrumentation and copious irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. Obturation using the lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha and AH26

Mirror-image dental fusion and discordance in monozygotic twins.

A pair of monozygotic twins had similar but not identical dental anomalies. One twin had fusion of deciduous mandibular lateral incisor and canine on the left, with normal dentition on the right; the co-twin had right mandibular incisor/canine fusion, with aplasia of the lateral incisor on the left. These findings are discussed in the context of the related phenomena of situs inversus, mirror-imaging in twins, and gradients of severity of anomalies in the four copies of the mandibular developmental dental field.

Fused tooth: clinical approach to endodontic treatment.

Tooth fusion, the union of 2 developing dental germs, can affect the primary and permanent dentitions as well as supernumerary teeth. The anatomy of fused teeth represents a challenge when endodontic treatment is needed. This case report describes the endodontic treatment performed in a permanent maxillary incisor fused to a supernumerary tooth. A 10-year-old girl was referred for endodontic treatment in her maxillary left central incisor, which displayed a wide and bifid crown. Periapical radiographs showed that the tooth had 2 crowns with fused roots; the pulp chambers of the crowns communic

Primary incisor triplication defect.

Conjoining abnormalities occur in less than 1 percent of the population. Triplication of primary teeth is even a rarer phenomenon with a prevalence of 0.02 percent. This study describes the clinical features and the light microscopic appearance of a case of triplicated primary teeth. The teeth with the conjoined defect were examined by light microscopy to evaluate the exact level and appearance of the fusion area. The light microscopic examination revealed grooves and cracks consisting of enamel and dentine in the fusion area, fusion was irregular and both dentin and cementum were confluent. I

[Microscopic root canal treatment of fused mandibular molar with seven root canals: a case report].

Fused teeth are usually formed by the partial or complete fusion of two normal tooth germs during the development process and belong to dental developmental abnormalities. Fused teeth are relatively rare clinically, and those occurring in the posterior tooth area are even rarer. This article reports a case of fused teeth between the first permanent molar and the second permanent molar in the right mandible. This fused tooth had a complex root canal anatomical structure (seven root canals). The number and location of the root canals were analyzed by cone beam computed tomography, and root canal

Fusion of permanent maxillary incisors of archaeological origin: A case report from late medieval Croatia.

OBJECTIVE: The study aims to investigate a case of fusion of the permanent central and lateral right maxillary incisors observed in a middle-aged male from the late medieval town of Sisak in Croatia. DESIGN: "Double teeth" is a term for a developmental anomaly caused by congenital, inherited, acquired and/or idiopathic factors resulting in the union of two adjacent teeth. It usually occurs in three different varieties: concrescence, gemination and fusion. Although there are many reports of such disorders in recent populations, similar examples in archaeological contexts are still rare and, in

Concrescence of permanent maxillary second and third molars: case report of non-surgical root canal treatment.

Concrescence is a rare developmental anomaly with an overall incidence of 0.8% in the permanent dentition. While many case reports describe the treatment of concrescence with extraction, there are few reports of non-surgical root canal treatment (NSRCT), due to the atypical root form, canal morphology, and technical difficulties involved in concrescence. This unique case report describes a technical modification of NSRCT that can retain joined posterior maxillary teeth to maintain natural posterior occlusion without surgical intervention or dental implants, thereby avoiding the risk of damage

Endodontic and orthodontic treatment of fused maxillary central incisors: a case report.

The purpose of this case report was to describe combined endodontic and orthodontic treatment of a patient who had permanent maxillary central incisors fused with supernumerary teeth. A severe esthetic problem and crowding in the maxillary arch were present clinically. Radiographic examination demonstrated two separate crowns, roots and pulpal canals on each side. The therapy was initiated with endodontic treatment. Six months after the completion of endodontic therapy, mesio-distal trimming was performed and the defects were restored with anterior resin composites in order to re-establish the

Treatment considerations in a geminated maxillary lateral incisor.

A patient with anomalous maxillary lateral incisor was referred for endodontic therapy. A diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis of a geminated maxillary lateral incisor was made. The preoperative radiograph revealed an image of a single root canal but in fact the tooth had two separate and distinct root canals. Treatment considerations of this anomaly are discussed.

The possible association between localized juvenile periodontitis and supernumerary teeth.

Supernumerary teeth and localized juvenile periodontitis in the same patient is a very unusual finding. Only 5 cases are reported, 2 of which were identical twins. An additional 2 cases are presented in which localized juvenile periodontitis was associated with multiple supernumerary premolars. These cases are strikingly similar to 3 of the previously reported cases, raising the possibility that this combination of disorders may be more than a chance association.
