Toxicity and Selective Biochemical Assessment of Quercetin, Gallic Acid, and Curcumin in Zebrafish.

In recent years, numerous research outcomes were established on various naturally occurring compounds that have been shown to have beneficial antioxidant and other biological activities. Antioxidant defence mechanism plays a vital role in combating various diseases mainly due to oxidative stress. However, various models have been utilized to identify their bioactivities using these compounds (quercetin, gallic acid and curcumin). Their toxicity level also has to be explored to determine the threshold levels on the usage of these compounds. In this study, we investigated the lethal concentratio

CdTe QDs based fluorescent sensor for the determination of gallic acid in tea.

A new fluorescent light switch method, which based on N‑acetyl‑l‑cysteine capped CdTe QDs (NALC-CdTe QDs), was developed for the detection of gallic acid (GA). The QDs possess a fluorescence emission wavelength at 520nm and with symmetric fluorescence. When KMnO4 is added, the high fluorescence of QDs could be effectively quenched for the electron transfer process between KMnO4 and QDs. But with the addition of GA, the fluorescence of KMnO4-QDs system could recover for the reason that redox reaction of GA and KMnO4. Therefore, a fluorescent light switch method could be used for GA with a detec

Gallic acid as main product in the water extractives of Quercus frainetto ten.

The autoclave extraction of Hungarian oak (Quercus frainetto Ten.) wood gave 5.3% extractives. The chloroform soluble fraction obtained from the extracts of Q. frainetto allows to identify sesamin. The insoluble fraction contains mainly ribose and mannose. Water extraction in autoclave of thermo-treated Q. frainetto wood gave a lower amount of extractives (3.31%). The main product of the insoluble fraction was, on the basis of its mass spectrum, the monoacetyl derivative of gallic acid.

The teratogenicity and the action mechanism of gallic acid relating with brain and cervical muscles.

Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid) (GA) and other flavanoids are extensively used in nutraceuticals because of their antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. While examining whether GA is effective in alleviating valproic-acid-induced teratogenesis in a chicken embryo model (CEM), we observed embryo hemorrhage and liposis in the musculi longissimus cervicis. We conducted this study to determine whether GA is inherently teratogenic and the extent to which the risk can be transferred to fetuses. A CEM was used to administer GA at 2, 6, 10, and 14 μM. GA at 2 μM did not exhibit cytoto

Differential modulation of chloride conductances by iodinated gallic and trans-ferulic acids.

In this report we demonstrate that iodogallic acid (IGA) and iodoferulic acid (IFA) do not acutely affect transepithelial cation transport, however, prolonged basolateral application of IFA induced a delayed decrease in open-circuit current associated with increased transepithelial resistance. IGA and IFA have differential effects on volume-regulated anion currents (VRAC) and on cAMP-induced anion currents. In L929 cells, while IFA did not affect VRAC, IGA had a reversible and slightly voltage-dependent inhibitory effect with apparent IC50 values of approximately 10 μM that decreased with high

Recent developments of gallic acid derivatives and their hybrids in medicinal chemistry: A review.

The leading cause of several degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancer, aging, cardiovascular, and inflammatory diseases is oxidative stress, a consequence of overproduction and accumulation of free radicals. Naturally occurring antioxidants polyphenols have unnumbered biological activities such as antibacterial, anticancer, antiviral, antifungal, anticholesterol, and antiulcer. A naturally occurring gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid), is highly antioxidant and may play a protective role in healthy individuals by inhibiting apoptosis. Pharmacological agents containing galli

Characteristics and kinetics of hexavalent chromium reduction by gallic acid in aqueous solutions.

Gallic acid (GA) is a naturally occurring plant polyphenol compound. Experiments were conducted to study the kinetics and effects of pH, temperature, irradiation, and initial hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) concentration on Cr(VI) reduction by GA. Results indicated that Cr(VI) could be reduced to chromium oxide (Cr(III)) with GA in a wide range of pH values from 2.0 to 8.5. The reaction followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic model with respect to Cr(VI) and GA in acid conditions (pH 2.0-5.0). However, the reaction did not follow the pseudo-first-order kinetic model at pH 6.5 and 8.5. Removal effic

Gallic acid and loganic acid attenuate amyloid-β oligomer-induced microglia damage via NF-КB signaling pathway.

Amyloid β peptide (Aβ) induces neurodegeneration in the early stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD), resulting in neuroinflammation, oxidative damage, and mitochondrial impaired function. These reactions were closely associated with the pathological changes of brain microglia. Therefore, it was crucial to investigate the precise process of neuroinflammation induced by Aβ in microglia and discover therapies to alleviate its harmful consequences. This study evaluated the toxicity detection of primary microglia generated by Aβ42 ADDL. identification of inflammatory markers, measurement of ROS, and as
